Subject: BS: Any catters into day trading? From: SamStone Date: 24 Dec 18 - 12:59 PM Day trading is the best way that i have found to increase wealth during govt shutdown...no insider trading. just a fast computer and the ability to watch trends...kinda like "know when to hold 'em, know when to fold 'em. |
Subject: RE: BS: Any catters into day trading? From: Andy7 Date: 24 Dec 18 - 03:47 PM Day trading is a bit like chucking all your money up in the air, and then seeing how much of it you can catch, and keep, on the way down! Just like a casino - you think the trading sites you use do it for love? They take their own cut, of course; so unless you're extremely talented, or lucky, they'll always win out in the end. |
Subject: RE: BS: Any catters into day trading? From: Donuel Date: 24 Dec 18 - 05:15 PM If you have an office in the Canary Islands you could beat NYC by a .0001 th of a second on European quotes, a virtual eternity by high speed trading terms. This is a helluva time to talk about the market. Even Hedge fund owners are exposed and trying to declare a floor to the market by lying about buying. |
Subject: RE: BS: Any catters into day trading? From: SamStone Date: 26 Dec 18 - 11:11 AM i must be doing something wrong ... i made $380.00 (US) on a single trade this morning ... just sayin' ... |
Subject: RE: BS: Any catters into day trading? From: Mr Red Date: 26 Dec 18 - 05:20 PM betting on the future using experience of the past is like betting on roulette with the Martindale** system. One day a sequence that history did not teach you about will happen. And because you didn't read the signs, you got out 0.001 seconds too late. BTW there is an "hotel" in NYC with basement to rooftop computers - prime realestate for digital trading because it is near to the exchanges. That 0.0001 seconds it gains over server farms down the street in NYC gives them a better profit margin. And they are re-installing microwave links to compete with fibre from Chicago-NY (eg) because of the 0.001 seconds it gains. ** you bet on red or odd all the time, doubling the stake after each loss. Usually you can win the original stake................. Provided the run is shorter than your float. And you don't hit the bank limit. And anyway the odds are not 50% because of 0 (& 00 as well in the US). Please don't quote the old chestnut about the probability is always 50%. This is a bet on a sequence not a single shot. And a sequence can still bankrupt you if you try it long enough. And experienced croupiers are employed because they are experienced!!!! And computer traders have experience and algorithms! |

Subject: RE: BS: Any catters into day trading? From: SamStone Date: 27 Dec 18 - 02:24 AM not sure if most folks know the ins and outs of "day" trading ... there is not a system to beat ... it requires a lot of patience and watching trends or to concentrate on a company or a sector and decide (sometimes in a second or so) when to hold 'em and when to fold 'em so to speak. of course nothing is 100% and i am not in it to make a living ... in 2018 my gains are 71% and my losses are 29% of a pinch over 21K and my time spent fewer than 100 hours or about 2 a week. of course i read the WSJ and Barrons and try to stay current on the markets. skeptics are NOT encouraged to jump in. |
Subject: RE: BS: Any catters into day trading? From: Joe Offer Date: 27 Dec 18 - 03:39 AM My Brother the Stockbroker set up a portfolio of mutual funds for my IRA in about 2002, and then he left stocks and went into real estate. The portfolio was balanced and fairly conservative, and I've left it alone and lived mostly off its earnings ever since. I check my account about once a month to make sure everything's in balance. There have been times (like the last couple months) when I've lost a lot of money, but I stuck with what I had and it has always come back. I'd rather not live off a stock portfolio, but my government job was privatized and my government pension is half what I expected. I've survived 20 years off savings, thanks to my brother's wisdom. -Joe- |
Subject: RE: BS: Any catters into day trading? From: Charmion Date: 27 Dec 18 - 11:35 AM I am too ignorant, impatient, and risk-averse to play the stock market. At the end of the day, I want my shirt back. |
Subject: RE: BS: Any catters into day trading? From: Donuel Date: 27 Dec 18 - 02:17 PM The key word is play. If you are having fun and can afford to play, do it. If you do not want to be overexposed avoid the futures market and margin calls. But risk along with knowledge can lead to reward. However there are additional X factors today such as the Donald. |
Subject: RE: BS: Any catters into day trading? From: SamStone Date: 27 Dec 18 - 05:48 PM JoeOffer ...your bro had the knowledge and insight to pull off long term growth and earnings ... i DO NOT possess these gifts ... yeah my endeavors are like play with serious side effects ... instead of long term my trades are day by day, hour by hour and at times split second decisions ... me thinks i have a fair amount of success in that i limit my total $$$ outlay and i am not afraid to make decisions on the fly ...Happy NEW Year to us all. |
Subject: RE: BS: Any catters into day trading? From: Rapparee Date: 28 Dec 18 - 05:39 PM We put money into annuities, mutual funds, and such-like things for years. When we were both retired we remembered them (and RMD came due) and we found out how much we were worth after forgetting about all that for forty years. Not a LOT, but enough for comforts like a roof, food, clothing, health insurance, some travel.... |
Subject: RE: BS: Any catters into day trading? From: Nigel Parsons Date: 29 Dec 18 - 03:18 PM Despite some of the cautionary comments above, it is possible to make a reasonable living from gambling. You need to be the casino owner/bookmaker. |
Subject: RE: BS: Any catters into day trading? From: Bee-dubya-ell Date: 29 Dec 18 - 06:02 PM I'd like to try some of that day trading. Can I trade today for a nice sunny day in June? |

Subject: RE: BS: Any catters into day trading? From: Rusty Dobro Date: 31 Dec 18 - 10:19 AM I once traded a wet Tuesday in 2018 for a Sunday in 1955, and found all the shops were shut. |
Subject: RE: BS: Any catters into day trading? From: Donuel Date: 31 Dec 18 - 11:30 AM It is easier to pass the test to get a broker or estate planning license than passing the bar in Utah. I wonder if anyone remembers my sell alerts over the last 15 years. They were usually months ahead of time. I am sure no one here believed them let alone acted upon them. Years after my hypnosis career my first stock market employer was Bear Stearns that I ended up working against. What happened to them couldn't have happened to a better bunch of criminals. |
Subject: RE: BS: Any catters into day trading? From: Donuel Date: 03 Jan 19 - 05:56 PM imo bear markets cause a recession. Apple has ben growing in a gravy yard of nutrients but the party is over. The market dropped another 660 points today and everyone is whistling past the grave yard. |
Subject: RE: BS: Any catters into day trading? From: SamStone Date: 04 Jan 19 - 12:35 PM the market slugged yesterday but i managed to profit $83.00 in a single buy/sell of a single stock ... took about two hours of watching and waiting. Future profit potentials ... pot, cannabis, weed, Mary Jane, what you want to call it ... look north to Canada (from the US) and look, read and listen. it's fun to score a few drachmas but i love the adventure of it ... still not for the faint of heart, you must have a little bit of play money. |
