Subject: BS: TV Comedian wins Presidency From: Donuel Date: 25 Apr 19 - 07:11 AM Ukraine has a new Comedian President. Will other countries follow their lead? It speaks of the culture and not the professional politician who speaks for government. Just like in religion, there is the professional clergy who speaks of God and then there is prophetic religion that that speaks to culture. President Stephen Colbert? Prime Minister Eric Idle? |

Subject: RE: BS: TV Comedian wins Presidency From: Bee-dubya-ell Date: 25 Apr 19 - 07:42 AM No, the US has never elected a comedian, just a clown. |

Subject: RE: BS: TV Comedian wins Presidency From: Donuel Date: 25 Apr 19 - 08:34 AM Art imitates reality. Trump is too immature, insecure, inable and ignorant to be a funny comedian. I've seen more mature and reverent 5th graders. |
Subject: RE: BS: TV Comedian wins Presidency From: Donuel Date: 25 Apr 19 - 08:56 AM I think an outsider on the left has a better chance than Biden. An informed crisp and clever campaign by a comedian would out perform several months of bumbling by Biden. |
Subject: RE: BS: TV Comedian wins Presidency From: Donuel Date: 25 Apr 19 - 09:16 AM The Democrats need a commission of pithy short catch phrases. Screw truthiness and lies Speak truth again Vote true red white and blue Truth helps YOU |

Subject: RE: BS: TV Comedian wins Presidency From: Donuel Date: 25 Apr 19 - 12:58 PM Today a kitchen sink announced its White House bid. |
Subject: RE: BS: TV Comedian wins Presidency From: Little Hawk Date: 25 Apr 19 - 02:01 PM Chongo is the obvious best choice for president. It is only closet specism on the part of a majority of Americans that has kept him from being elected up till now, but I believe his time is coming. |
Subject: RE: BS: TV Comedian wins Presidency From: Bee-dubya-ell Date: 25 Apr 19 - 04:05 PM Chongo might actually have a chance in 2020. Poop flinging is no longer seen as a negative by many voters. We've been watching Trump do it for two and a half years. |
Subject: RE: BS: TV Comedian wins Presidency From: Joe Offer Date: 25 Apr 19 - 05:02 PM Doesn't the new President of the Ukraine play President on a popular tv series? Is it a comic role or dramatic? I'd vote for Martin Sheen for anything, although I think Barack Obama did a pretty good job of playing Martin Sheen... Joe |
Subject: RE: BS: TV Comedian wins Presidency From: Donuel Date: 25 Apr 19 - 08:22 PM Joe you have a sense of humor. Why didn't you tell us? But seriously, we’re in for a very, very serious and important time that requires action. We can’t sit back. We can’t not get involved. We have to get more and more and more involved. And we have to allow ourselves to be taken to the best part of ourselves, and it’s gonna be costly. But that’s what it means to belong to this critical thinking club. |
Subject: RE: BS: TV Comedian wins Presidency From: robomatic Date: 26 Apr 19 - 12:32 AM Actually Barack Obama was reifying the role played by Jimmy Smits. Now I'm gonna have that theme music in my head through the weekend! |
Subject: RE: BS: TV Comedian wins Presidency From: Joe Offer Date: 26 Apr 19 - 12:46 AM But you might consider what I'm saying, Donuel. Over and over again, the news reports have labeled this new Ukrainian President. Volodymyr Zelensky, as a comedian, as if that were the only aspect of his personality. I'm supposing he's more than one-dimensional, and may have more qualities than just the ability to read a script and do stand-up comedy. Maybe not, though - he avoided debate and discussion during the election campaign, and nobody seems to know what he really stands for. But certainly, he's more than "just a comedian." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Volodymyr_Zelensky |
Subject: RE: BS: TV Comedian wins Presidency From: Mr Red Date: 26 Apr 19 - 03:19 AM Well surely a president needs some people skills, some managerial skills, and a smattering of law. And reading his Wiki he has those in spades. And an ear for words that please people! Maybe we are seeing a phase in politics that says "we tried the others, now gamble". The US did it! France did it, and now the Ukraine has. I predict he will turn out to be an administrator par excellence. Prime Minister Eric Idle? - trust me, unless his adolescent trait for listening, thinking and coming up with a result has deserted him - he would make a good fist of it. I was at school with him and he was always looking for the opportunity to get on stage, even organising/fronting a review at the age of 10/11. Though he didn't swagger around and say "look at me" normally otherwise. |
Subject: RE: BS: TV Comedian wins Presidency From: Jos Date: 26 Apr 19 - 04:32 AM His Wiki entry summarises his career as "politician, screenwriter, actor, comedian, and director", and says he also has a law degree, so he's not just a comedian. Is that so different from the US electing a former Hollywood actor - Ronald Reagan - as President? And there are other examples of actors (as well as TV 'personalities') becoming politicians even if they have not (yet) stood as presidential or prime ministerial candidates. Dame Judi Dench comes to mind. |
Subject: RE: BS: TV Comedian wins Presidency From: Donuel Date: 26 Apr 19 - 06:00 AM I have no doubt the winner is multifaceted. All I know is that there was Russian money involvment and he spent the most money in the campaign, which is not unusual for a winning candidate. Actor Presidents have made excellent puppets in the past, in my opinion. They're acting. |
Subject: RE: BS: TV Comedian wins Presidency From: robomatic Date: 26 Apr 19 - 08:46 PM Let us hope that in this extreme case of life imitating art imitating life imitating art, there is a really really good screenplay. And that someone can read it whatever the hell language it's in. |
Subject: RE: BS: TV Comedian wins Presidency From: Rapparee Date: 26 Apr 19 - 09:33 PM Why not? |
Subject: RE: BS: TV Comedian wins Presidency From: robomatic Date: 26 Apr 19 - 11:23 PM We have the example of the recent past with Senator Al Franken, who was elected from Minnesota. |
Subject: RE: BS: TV Comedian wins Presidency From: Donuel Date: 27 Apr 19 - 08:13 AM Why not? - was good Strife imitating life imitating mice imitating the realitity Of Al Franken living by the joke and dying by the joke. Even President Donald Pussy Grabber Trump ridiculed Franken for quitting too soon. At a rally in Minnesota for the Republican running in a special election to complete Franken’s term, Trump told the crowd that Franken folded “like a soggy cigar.” “Man. ... He was gone so fast. It was like, ‘Oh, he did something, oh, oh, oh, I resign. I quit, I quit.’ Wow, whata wimp” Trump said. |
Subject: RE: WHEN TO WEAR DEPENDS thread drift From: Donuel Date: 27 Apr 19 - 08:47 AM WHEN to wear Depends..?? and the answer is WHEN YOU SEE AVENGERS ENDGAME (the movie is 3.2 hours long.) -no spoilers please- You will be able to buy official Avengers or Iron Man Depends at the concession stand in the lobby. Subject: RE: BS: TV Comedian wins Presidency From: Acorn4 Date: 28 Apr 19 - 03:57 PM I think the "try something else" just demonstrates how low people's opinions of mainstream politicians has sunk. Just take the UK - the Blairs and Camerons of this world have this seemingly inbuilt "PR filter" in between their brains and their mouths and people have quite rightly sussed it and mistrust the mainstream hence the freakish results. Could this indicate a resurgence for the "Monster Raving Loony Party" Just a reminder of three of their key manifesto pledges:- MPs who accept money from lobbyists to wear logos like footballers or Formula 1 Drivers. After and election there is a 30 day "cooling off" period whereby if you are not satisfied at the end you get your vote back. Parlimentary sessions to be held in Wormwood Scrubs to save on transport costs. Sounds good to me - I's even support the introduction of the 99p cooin. |
Subject: RE: BS: TV Comedian wins Presidency From: keberoxu Date: 29 Apr 19 - 02:09 PM I dream of a presidency which does not resemble a reality TV show. |
