Subject: RE: What do you say/play when it's over? From: JenEllen Date: 13 May 00 - 01:28 AM LOL Mark, I think that qualifies as an "E"!! Amergin, I had no idea, and I'm terribly sorry. I know those meds were intended for people with chemical imbalances, but I truly worry for those who pop Prozac like breath mints just because they are having a bad hair day. I'll keep my chin up just because I can.*g* Thanks. Spaw, Mason is okay, but it's been more of a Ruth Borwn and Billie Holiday night...;) |

Subject: RE: What do you say/play when it's over? From: Amergin Date: 13 May 00 - 02:02 AM Jen, there's nothing to be sorry over, it's not your fault. How could you know? I understand your concerns about those who pop pills, because their eyes looked at them wrong when they gazed in the mirror. Amergin |
Subject: RE: What do you say/play when it's over? From: catspaw49 Date: 13 May 00 - 03:42 AM Sorry there JE.......I didn't mean to listen to Mason. Mark quoted the song and asked if we knew who wrote it......and Mason Williams wrote it. The line came from Lewis Grizzard, the Georgia humorist/writer. Lew Grizzard had used it as a book title as well as a few other classics like, "Elvis is Dead and I Ain't Feelin' Too Good Myself." A chauvinist, a redneck, a Southerner through and through, but a really funny one. If there had not been a Lewis Grizzard, there wouldn't have been a Jeff Foxworthy. Spaw |

Subject: RE: What do you say/play when it's over? From: GUEST,winniemih Date: 13 May 00 - 11:47 AM Did anyone mention "Close the door lightly when you go" by Eric Anderson? Turn around, don't whisper out my name For like a breeze, it'd stir a dying flame I'll miss someone, if it eases you to know But close the door lightly when you go Who was the one who stole my mind Who was the one who robbed my time Who was the one who made me feel unkind So fare thee well, sweet love of mine Also, Rosalie Sorrels wrote "Did I knock?" which has a similar theme of longing and regret, but no hostile vindictive emotions. Be gentle with yourself. |
Subject: RE: What do you say/play when it's over? From: JenEllen Date: 13 May 00 - 11:50 AM Yeah, Spaw. I've read him, but the latest knee-slappers have come from the Patrick McManus books. Took me three tries to read the one about him going hunting and bringing the deer home on his bike.... |
Subject: RE: What do you say/play when it's over? From: Amergin Date: 13 May 00 - 12:14 PM I love Patrick McManus. The guy never fails to have me falling out of the chair in laughter. Heard he's from the Panhandle, Jen. Amergin |
Subject: RE: What do you say/play when it's over? From: rainbow Date: 13 May 00 - 12:51 PM joni mitchell... "she's so busy being free" christine lavin... "if you want space, go to utah" and for some reason i really like to hear tom ball and kenny sultan doing "how can i miss you when you won't go away"... ... i guess i need humour in those moments... you can play the music that was special to you both and cry your eyes out. or just keep making yourself listen to it until you stop crying. the last breakup i had was just like a movie (scene at airport etc.) ... a friend brought me the song "time for me to fly" from reo speedwagon. it was exactly the scenario. i suggest you write some songs and try to process it that way. could be interesting, huh? ... lorraine |

Subject: RE: What do you say/play when it's over? From: Hollowfox Date: 16 May 00 - 06:36 PM I just remembered/rediscovered these over the weekend...1) Waves of the Sea, sung by Heather Heywood "When he turns his back, he's a stranger to me....and I care no more for him than the waves of the sea." Tune's a rousing good march, too. 2) The last bit of Gordon Bok's version of "Wheel of Fortune "I no more to he, nor he to me/than the cool wind blowing o'er my hand." BTW (thread creep) those of you who like Lewis Grizzard-type humor, try Curt Brummett. Works hard to be politically incorrect, but once he stops trying to upset the womenfolk with a few Hillary jokes, and gets down to storytelling, he's one of the funniest writer/storytellers you'll find. (Sample book title "My Dog's a Democrat") His story of the trailer with cowboy plumbing is worth the price of admission by itself (You could tell the plumbing had been put in by a cowboy. The trailer was uphill from the well, and downhill from the septic tank...) |
Subject: RE: What do you say/play when it's over? From: JenEllen Date: 16 May 00 - 08:24 PM MAG: I think it was Guy/Susanna Clark that wrote that one. Hollowfox, thanks for the Curt Brummet tips, I'll check it out. I'm a firm believer that you can't laugh too much.. |

Subject: RE: What do you say/play when it's over? From: Midchuck Date: 31 Mar 01 - 07:10 AM If the relationship was one that you wish you could preserve, Tom Paxtons' "The Last Thing On My Mind" has probably never been equaled. If it's one you consider yourself lucky to get away form, it's a tie between Dylan's "Don't Think Twice," and Utah's "Rock Salt and Nails." Of course, I expect women would disagree with me on those last two.... Peter. |
Subject: RE: What do you say/play when it's over? From: Midchuck Date: 31 Mar 01 - 07:12 AM P. S. Keep in mind that the last time I was involved in a breakup, those were all brand new songs, so I can't say I've kept very good track of what's come along since that might work better. P. |

Subject: Lyr Add: LONG GONE (Jennifer Puleston) From: GUEST,Roll&Go-C Date: 31 Mar 01 - 05:06 PM There's the old forlorn cowboy classic: You've stole my wife, you horse thief! Then there's the abridged version of "Don't Think Twice" which is called "Don't Think Once." And then there's the old time song called: LONG GONE (Anon from singing of Jennifer Puleston) I remember well the day I met you With your smile so fair and bright And I loved you from that moment 'Til I met you here tonight. Chorus: Long gone, that's how I'm leavin', Long gone, why do you cry? This is what you've always wanted, Yes, I'm gone, long gone! I've tried my best to make you happy, Still you say I've done you wrong; So I'm giving up, my darling, And I'll be gone, long gone. Do not try to overtake me, What I ride will be too fast; All my bags are packed to travel, Long gone, long gone at last. When I see you try to spite me, When I see you turn away, All the grief that I've been feelin' Tells me there's no other way. It would of been better for us, my darling, If in this world we'd never met; For though I loved you like no other, Now I'm goin', I've just regret. A little long but, hey, this is theraputic! |
