Subject: RE: BS: English Mudcatters: Attention! From: Susan of DT Date: 07 Aug 00 - 02:30 PM We leave Thursday morning. The itinerary is still pretty much what I posted last week. We have pinned down a place to stay at Towersey. Any last minute e-mails, please send in the next day or so. Thank you all. Hope to meet a lot of you. |
Subject: RE: BS: English Mudcatters: Attention! From: GUEST,Iains Date: 01 Aug 00 - 01:21 PM There's a good tuesday night session at the sloop in Barton on humber, not a vast distance from whitby. Give it a go if you have the opportunity.Mainly fiddles but some singing, and the guiness is ok. |

Subject: RE: BS: English Mudcatters: Attention! From: Fortunato Date: 30 Jul 00 - 09:38 PM Sorrow for usurping the thread, susan and Dick. Hope you have a grand time. Liz and Morticia we won't need a place to stay just friends to make music with or share a pint during that week. But thanks for the offers. I'll pm the details closer to the trip. cheers, Fortunato (Chance)

Subject: RE: BS: English Mudcatters: Attention! From: Susan of DT Date: 30 Jul 00 - 09:15 PM Thanx Liz. So the Friday is pretty well lost to both Whitby and Towersey. We will have to get to a town with a car rental near Whitby early Friday and start down to Towersey. No luck yet on booking a room near Towersey, but I have not yet exhausted the possibilities. Now that we decided on a car, we can be further away.
Since we will be at the Champlain Valley Festival in Vermont this coming weekend, I am trying to finish up the arrangements. |
Subject: RE: BS: English Mudcatters: Attention! From: Liz the Squeak Date: 30 Jul 00 - 07:12 PM Specially for dinner........ Yum. LTS |
Subject: RE: BS: English Mudcatters: Attention! From: Morticia Date: 30 Jul 00 - 07:05 PM Fortunato, pay no attention to Liz........everyone knows she's deranged.........you, and for that matter Dick and Susan are very welcome here..........PM me for address/phone number..........we have a comfortable spare room ( aside from cats) and love company :) |
Subject: RE: BS: English Mudcatters: Attention! From: Liz the Squeak Date: 30 Jul 00 - 07:01 PM About 8 hours - more if you have a really dodgy car. This is allowing for 3 - 5 20 min breaks and another 30 to get lost in, and for keeping to the speed limit. It takes about 6 from East London to Whitby, and about 1 1/2 from East London to Towersey along the M25 on a good day (allow extra for M25 - it is a crappy piece of road), so that makes about 8. LTS |
Subject: RE: BS: English Mudcatters: Attention! From: Susan of DT Date: 30 Jul 00 - 06:55 PM Has anyone driven from Whitby to Towersey? How long does it take? |
Subject: RE: BS: English Mudcatters: Attention! From: dick greenhaus Date: 30 Jul 00 - 06:47 AM From Susan at Dick's cookie: I am trying to finalize the arrangements. There is still room for one or two more stops between Monday and Wednesday before Whitby Aug 14-16. I have not yet told Bron which nite we will be there pending knowing the other stops. Anyone else... |
Subject: RE: BS: English Mudcatters: Attention! From: Susan of DT Date: 28 Jul 00 - 08:37 PM We still have some openings if people want to see us. We seem to have tied down Saturday (London) and Sunday (Hertfordshire) Aug 12-13 and will stop in Wales (Welshpool) one of the days between Monday and when we go to Bill Sables (on the Humber)on Thursday. Anyone interested in some musical company? Then Whitby Friday to Friday and Towersey Friday nite to Sunday noon or so, then back to Gatwick. We hope to meet lots of you. |
Subject: RE: BS: English Mudcatters: Attention! From: Liz the Squeak Date: 28 Jul 00 - 12:21 AM Fortunato - don't go to Morty's house, the last one who did never made it out again - leastways, not as a whole man......... She is quite near London, but I'm actually in it!! Gomez is recovering nicely after the last time he butted in, and the cats are REALLY grumpy, especially the one that sleeps in the laundry basket. My cat will just sleep on you, if you give it the chance. She is monunmentaly grumpy just now, as we are shutting her catflap at night (that way she gets a fighting chance at not having her grub hijacked) so she picks at it, keeping us awake (hence the posting at 5.00am GMT) and wearing her claws out! LTS |
Subject: RE: BS: English Mudcatters: Attention! From: Fortunato Date: 27 Jul 00 - 10:01 PM Morticia, Thank you, I will accept your countenance and your hospitality gladly ( I like cats.) I trust you completely, thank you. Are you near London? Does Gomez know we are conversing? Do you still (I love it when you do) speak French? regards, Fortunato Liz, the !@#$%^&, $%^&*( computer kept giving me the wrong farking massage. I got my birth certificate and passport pictures today, I'm coming to see you guys, for real. Are there any Shivers in you phone book? Morticia, you are cool. regards, Fortunato

Subject: RE: BS: English Mudcatters: Attention! From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 27 Jul 00 - 09:13 PM Sunday 13th is a session night in the Half Moon in Bishop's Stortford in Hertfordshire starting about 8.30. The beer's good as well as the craic, and there are sandwiches passed around at the crucial time. I'd recommend fitting it into the busy schedule. One thing to consider is how far Dick and Sue want to take in things that would be happening anyway, or for people to line up something that wouldn't be happening otherwise.
|
Subject: RE: BS: English Mudcatters: Attention! From: Morticia Date: 27 Jul 00 - 09:08 PM Fortunato, I think you had better had come stay with us....I can only promise you two cross cats and a reasonable dinner but it will be much safer......trust me on this. |
Subject: RE: BS: English Mudcatters: Attention! From: dick greenhaus Date: 27 Jul 00 - 08:50 PM Hi- We'll be posting a roughed-out itinerary soon (this weekend maybe). And thanx--many many thanx--for all the offers of sleeping space. Mudcat, Digitrad and CAMSCO are all fun, but hardly lucrative.

Subject: RE: BS: English Mudcatters: Attention! From: Llanfair Date: 27 Jul 00 - 04:09 PM Either of those days are fine. I can offer accommodation as long as you don't mind dogs and/or cats. The stopover at Selby sounds interesting, but I'm still trying to organise care for my livestock!!! Hwyl, Bron. |
Subject: RE: BS: English Mudcatters: Attention! From: Liz the Squeak Date: 27 Jul 00 - 03:21 PM Fortunato - Geez, you must be desperate if you post it three times, each different than the last..... Yes to the jumper cables and the warm oatmeal, but I only have WD40 - light machine oil - of 'Red Dwarf' fame (gosh, what is that lovely fragrance. simper, WD40...) will that do? We can add garlic oil or rosemary oil if you like. Got some extra virgin olive oil (how do they know they are virgins??) Gervase, just bring yer flobby botty and we'll be alright.... Leave the mace in the House where it belongs. LTS |
Subject: RE: BS: English Mudcatters: Attention! From: bill\sables Date: 27 Jul 00 - 02:37 PM There will be a Mudcat gathering at Thr Jug Chapel Haddlesey Near Selby on Thursday 17th August with Susan and Dick as guests of honour and I would like to see as many northern catters attending as possible. You can get good inexpensive food there and they sell Real Ale and the music is usually pretty good. Any other catters heading to Whitby could use it as a stop over. We will find some sort of accomodation for you. Let's show these parents of Mudcat what the British hospitality is like. Cheers Bill |
Subject: RE: BS: English Mudcatters: Attention! From: Micca Date: 27 Jul 00 - 08:15 AM Susan, there is a railway station a few miles from Towersey, with a direct service to London and I am sure we could get you there on Sunday, once in London the Tube system will get you to Victoria, where there is a fast efficient service to Gatwick, so shouldnt be any problem there the same arriving if you havent got transport, if you arrive at Haddenham station and get a Taxi to your B&b and then simply make for the Three Horseshoes at Towersey, hopefully , by then you will know a few of us by sight and will know who you are looking for.We will give you detailed instructions and maps nearer the time. |
Subject: RE: BS: English Mudcatters: Attention! From: IanC Date: 27 Jul 00 - 07:25 AM Susan/Dick Do you want to stay in Herts. both Saturday and Sunday nights (12/13)? I'll sort out with Kevin/Alan if you can confirm. Afraid Gatwick is almost the worst possible place for train connections. Somebody may well be able to drive you round the M25 though. We're more or less on the Kings Cross line (to North East England and Scotland) and also close to the main London North East road (the A1), one of which you'll need to take to get to Whitby. You could always put up for the night with us on the way up or down (welcome) and we could arrange transport. Towersey isn't very far away either. London 30-45 mins by train. You could use us as a fallback failing other transport/accommodation arrangements.
Cheers! |
Subject: RE: BS: English Mudcatters: Attention! From: Susan of DT Date: 27 Jul 00 - 05:11 AM Is anyone going to both Whitby and Towersey? Who has room in their car? Are train connections good or should we get a car for that weekend (we will have one the first week). Does anyone know how good the train connections are between Towersey and Gatwick on a Sunday? Bron - we are talking about the week before Whitby, maybe Tuesday or Wednesday August 15 or so. Would this work for you? This part of the week is still pretty tentative. Thanx all |
Subject: RE: BS: English Mudcatters: Attention! From: Llanfair Date: 27 Jul 00 - 04:46 AM Susan, I'm in East Wales, 8 miles from Welshpool, when are you coming? Bron. |

Subject: RE: BS: English Mudcatters: Attention! From: Susan of DT Date: 26 Jul 00 - 09:31 PM Thanx guys. It looks like the Black Lion Saturday Aug 12, staying with Micca. Then Sunday to Hertfordshire (does not look very far at all) with Ian/Kevin/Alan - you three decide on details. Llanfair - which side of Wales are you on - east is possible, west is unlikely this trip. See lots of you at Whitby and Towersey. Anyone else want a visit? |
Subject: RE: BS: English Mudcatters: Attention! From: Fortunato Date: 26 Jul 00 - 08:59 PM Gervase that will be lovely, I'm looking forward to it. Liz the squeek, if you have jumper cables, 30 weight motor oil and a bucket of wet oatmeal we can begin the fun. regards, fortunato |

Subject: RE: BS: English Mudcatters: Attention! From: Liz the Squeak Date: 26 Jul 00 - 05:35 PM Yo, Gervase, what you doin' next week? Wanna go for a beer?? I'm only in Euston.... LTS |
Subject: RE: BS: English Mudcatters: Attention! From: Gervase Date: 26 Jul 00 - 05:29 AM Fortunato - I live in South Kensington during the week and in East Herts at weekends, so if you're around, just drop me a line and we'll have a beer or whatever. And as for the testimonies of the various SOs in my life - that would be telling, but they have all been blessed with almost infinite patience - none more so than the mother of my children, with whom I hope to share a long and comfortable old age, having put away childish things! |
Subject: RE: BS: English Mudcatters: Attention! From: Morticia Date: 25 Jul 00 - 08:04 PM and if he can't we will :)Kevin, my angel, if you wish to lay hands on my warming pan, well, it's all yours :) |

Subject: RE: BS: English Mudcatters: Attention! From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 25 Jul 00 - 04:34 PM Naah, I was thinking more of the warming pan. |
Subject: RE: BS: English Mudcatters: Attention! From: Liz the Squeak Date: 25 Jul 00 - 04:26 PM Fine, always bed space here East of Ealing...... (mmmm that would make a good book title....) September is still fairly free, but October is filling rapidly. Unless anyone wants to come and play with some giants at the end of October??? And McGrath - if you think you can get away with laying hands on Morticia, you'd better be damned good at your Jesse Owen impressions, that's all I can say! LTS |
Subject: RE: BS: English Mudcatters: Attention! From: Fortunato Date: 25 Jul 00 - 04:23 PM British Mudcatters! Please don't use up all the good times in August. I am planning to be in London Sept 23rd thru the 28th. My wife Susette has a conference at Imperial College, but I shall have lots of free time to seek out a good pint and good music. I'd love to meet all of you that I can and share some songs. We'll be staying in South Kensington and I'll be afoot without a guitar, but I've lots of determination to seek you out! I'll give details next month. Hope to see you all. Regards, Fortunato (Chance Shiver) |
Subject: RE: BS: English Mudcatters: Attention! From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 25 Jul 00 - 04:19 PM Was that a Morticia or a warming pan you can lay your hands on? |
Subject: RE: BS: English Mudcatters: Attention! From: Liz the Squeak Date: 25 Jul 00 - 04:14 PM Just as well, hell hath no fury like a Morticia given up for a warming pan..... LTS We might be able to lay our hands on one..... depends on which family member wants to part with one for a weekend....

Subject: RE: BS: English Mudcatters: Attention! From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 25 Jul 00 - 04:07 PM So he opted to sell the banjo instead of selling you? They don't make folkies like they used to...

Subject: RE: BS: English Mudcatters: Attention! From: Morticia Date: 25 Jul 00 - 03:30 PM we will be at both, I hope Towersey and the Black Lion, but I made the SO sell his banjo ( it was it or me) so no joy there I'm afraid. Look forward to seeing as many of you as poss. and yes Gervase, what will they testify to??? |
Subject: RE: BS: English Mudcatters: Attention! From: Micca Date: 25 Jul 00 - 03:13 PM How about the Saturday evening in the Black Lion Plaistow High St? Good beer and near the tube...\ny London catters contact me... |
Subject: RE: BS: English Mudcatters: Attention! From: Liz the Squeak Date: 25 Jul 00 - 02:05 PM Yup - that goes for the Squeak household too - what Micca says, but yes,we will be at Towersey for much of that week. Well, I will, anyway. But the 3 Horseshoes is public and not a bad little hostelry if you want to join us for an evening of bloody good singing.... LTS And Gervase - what will your "various" wives testify to???
