Subject: Swinging again
From: GUEST,John
Date: 15 Dec 00 - 08:05 AM

A few days ago I requested lyrics to "Swinging on the Outhouse Door." When I came back today I couldn't even find my own post. I'm technically challenged. Did anyone know them? TIA.

What was the title of the thread, John?

This is as much as I know: "And there is grandma
Swinging on the outhouse door
(without her nightie)
Swinging on the outhouse door..."

Thanks, Sinsull. Shambles: As best I recall, I named the thread "swinging on the outhouse door."

Guest John, the thread was titled "outhouse door lyrics." It was on today's thread list at 8:45 am CST. I posted to it to bring it up to the top, but of course other posts will go above it as people do their thing today.

Be aware that any new post will bring a given thread to the top of the list (actually, just under the two permanently topmost threads colored teal). As other threads are posted to, they will go to the top, and the mentioned thread will "sink" in the listings. Sometimes it's a matter of carefully scrutinizing the list (that's how I found it), but of course it's a big advantage to remember the thread title! (VBG--I've had the same experience--looking for a thread when I couldn't remember the name of it--ah well, proves we're human.)

The list is basically set for one day, and will include all threads posted to within the past 24 hours. Once the last post is over 24 hours old, that thread will not be on the day's list. However, you can bring up a list that reaches back further by clicking on the arrow in the "Age" box (next to the button labeled refresh, at the top right) and selecting a longer time span--3 days, 7 days, etc. You might want to read the permanently topmost thread titled "Mudcat FAQ - Newcomer's Guide" for lots of good info and tips on finding older threads and other stuff here.

It's also helpful to use the "Lyr Req" modifier. It alerts folks to the fact you're looking for lyrics, as opposed to just chatting about graffiti on outhouse walls and doors.

If you filter the right number of days to catch the thread, you can then use the 'find in page' facility in your browser which is on the 'edit' dropdown menu. That will allow you to search for a word or phrase which you think is in the title. Its not a very sophisticated method, but its a really quick way of looking for things as it only has to operate locally.

Kris

When we were children we all sang that at the end of fun songs, for instance "I've been working on the Railroad". Don't know where it originated, but it was wonderful to add to our mountain music and we kids added a few naughty endings of our own when Dad wasn't listening. Ex. "And there was grandma, without no pants on, swinging on the outhouse door, with Uncle Henry, grabbing her down on the floor" Gee, I miss being a kid.

As I remember these were the lyrics: I'm a juvenile delinquent, don't want to go there anymore my momma beat me don't want to go there anymore my Pappas beat me don't want to go there anymore. And than there grandma without a nightie swinging on the old barn door, and than there's grandpa with grandma's nightie swinging on the old barn door...I'm a juvenile delinquent....
