Could anyone give me the words to this song which I heard recently
The only bit I can remember (in fact it's stuck in my brain) is - Oh I am a lucky man - Favoured by good fortunes hand

Thanks

Subject: Lyr Add: LUCKY MAN (Bruce Springsteen)
From: Quincy

It's not the Springsteen one is it?

LUCKY MAN

Running down the highway half past eleven
Waitin' for my odometer to roll straight sevens
I'm a lucky man
I went to see the gypsy the other night
She looked in my palm looked me in the eye
Said you're a lucky man
Some folks got fortune some got eyes of blue
What you got will always see you through
You're a lucky man
Pa went from the army to the factory to the killing yard
I make my living with my hands behind the wheel of this car
I'm a lucky man
Messin' with me man wouldn't be wise
Roll them dice son - ah snake eyes
I'm a lucky man
Had a girl in Calgary I gave her up
Man that love thing was messin' with my luck
I'm a lucky man
I'll wake up tomorrow morning in another state
Kiss me now baby before it's too late
If you wanna kiss a lucky man
I don't miss no girl I don't miss no home
He travels fastest who travels alone
He's a lucky man
A man with the world in the palm of his hands

best wishes, Yvonne

He had white horses
And ladies by the score
All dressed in satin
And waiting by the door

No Quincy - Sorry -thats not the one - but thanks anyway
I've spent all afternoon trying to track it down on the net and have discovered it was recorded by a Canadian called Grit Laskin - it may even have been written by him

Still doing my homework and moving forward slowly
Found a clip on Folk Legacy who are re-releasing two previous records UNMASKED & LILA'S JIG as a double CD called UNABASHEDLY FOLK

I now know that the song starts ;-

I had no say in being born
Or when and where it happened to me
It's only chance that turned the wheel
And made my living easy

LUCKY MAN (Grit Laskin)

F C F G7 C I had no say in being born, F C Dm7 G7 Or where or when it happened to me
F C F G7 C It's only chance that turned the wheel F Dm7 G7 And made my living easy

CHORUS
F Dm7 C F Dm7 G7 Oh, I am a lucky man, favored by good fortune's hand,
F Dm7 G7 C Far more than I'm deserving

F C F G7 C I've had good work since I've been young,
F C Dm7 G7 Mastered a trade,my business thriving
F C F G7 C Yet thousands idly bide their days
F Dm7 G7 No job means no surviving

F C F G7 C I share a love that's fair and true
F C Dm7 G7 A marriage have I that's rich with pleasure
F C F G7 C Yet there are those whose wedding vows
F Dm7 G7 Are shackles that embitter

F C F G7 C There's some who die for want of bread
F C Dm7 G7 There's some are killed for seeking freedom
F C F G7 C Yet I have more of what they crave
F Dm7 G7 Than ever I'll be needing.

Folk-Legacy carries the 2-CD release, but Borealis, the young Canadian label (also responsible for Rick Fielding's second CD) actually released it. It's a combination of two earlier LPs by Grit (William) Laskin, guitar maker to the stars, novelist, song maker, multi-instrumentalist, genius, and gentleperson.
