Subject: Congratulations treaties From: nutty Date: 06 Apr 01 - 09:58 PM I'm sending Congratulations to my friend "treaties" who has now been a non-smoker for one whole week I know she still has a long way to go but feel such a milestone should be recognised I also want to send my best wishes and support to jeffp and his partner, Amergin, okthen and anyone else who has had the courage to try and who has had even a small amount of success. The only people who never succeed are those who never try.I'm still taking it day by day but it's getting easier |

Subject: RE: BS: Congratulations treaties From: Ebbie Date: 06 Apr 01 - 10:19 PM Good for you, treaties and all of you! When I reached the one week mark without smoking I knew I was on to something- in all my previous 'tries' I had never made it that long. The difference, I think, was that the last time I wasn't 'trying', I was doing it. It does get easier. And even though the impulse to smoke continues for years- hey, what do you expect from an addiction! As my brother said, he continued to have flashbacks for years, with his hand out of long habit going to his cigarette pocket but, he said that he could easily live with that- the next instant he had forgotten all about it. I found the same thing to be true. It gave me great comfort to tell myself for months that if they ever came out with a totally harmless cigarette, or if I developed a terminal illness, I would go right back to smoking. Of course, it wasn't long before I realized that I didn't want to go back to stinking! Congratulations! Ebbie |
Subject: RE: BS: Congratulations treaties From: kendall Date: 06 Apr 01 - 10:26 PM It's the toughest thing I ever did, but, it is damn well worth it. Hang in there, you CAN do it.Here's a pat on the back and a :-) |
Subject: RE: BS: Congratulations treaties From: Amergin Date: 07 Apr 01 - 12:45 PM Congratulations, Treaties! and thank you all for the support. I had my last cigarette a week and a half agoand now for some reason I seem to have alot less hair...possibly from pulling it out by the roots.... Well, here's my support for everyone! |

Subject: RE: BS: Congratulations treaties From: chip a Date: 07 Apr 01 - 01:15 PM Congratulations everyone! I smoked Camels and Prince Albert for 35 years and now I HAVENT SMOKED CAMELS and Prince Albert for 6 years. Guy in a hardware store gave me a trick. If it sounds silly, try it anyway. Every time you have the desire, say (out loud if you're alone) "Why that's ridiculous, I don't even smoke". Stay in there! It gets easy after a while. It's true that you may still think about it, but the bone deep lust is long gone. In the words of my sainted mother: "don't let the bastards get you down!" You're my hero! Chip |
Subject: RE: BS: Congratulations treaties From: GUEST Date: 07 Apr 01 - 01:44 PM O.K., It's been another 25 minutes! That's great! Right everybody? ---- Everybody?? ---- Come on now, take all that energy you were gonna put into another political thread and send it out to these smokin quittin folks.

Subject: RE: BS: Congratulations treaties From: Ebbie Date: 07 Apr 01 - 04:48 PM Every time I hear about someone quitting it pleases me so. It is the one thing in my life of which I'm unequivocally proud. I did it all by myself! And for years I had thought I wouln't ever be able to. I suppose if we had used the 'weed' as it was meant to be used: ceremonially and according to moon phases nobody would ever have got hooked. But, oh, did we abuse it! Here in Juneau, I have attended ceremonies by a Tlingit medicine man where tobacco and sweet grasses are ritually burned and it's a very different thing from lighting up. Ebbie |
Subject: RE: BS: Congratulations treaties From: Margaret V Date: 07 Apr 01 - 11:10 PM Well-done, treaties and Nathan and all of you! I wish you lots of continued success (permanent continued success, really). I like your hardware store man's tactic, Chip, I think it has broad application to any habit, and it's wonderfully absurd.
