dear Aìne, I am looking for the gaelic version of Ar Eirinn ni neosfainn cé hì; does it exist? I listened only an english version by "Dervish". In the same Dervish CD "Live in Palma" I listened two other songs that I'm not able to find:

Maire Mhòr Pheigìn mo Chroi

Can you help me?

Thanks in advance

Aingeal

(Have you noticed I found the Irish translation of my name)

Subject: Lyr Add: AR ÉIRINN NÍ NEOSFAINN CÉ HÍ
From: Big Mick
Date: 28 Apr 01 - 07:31 AM

Aingeal,

Aíne gets a little busy, so let me help out with this one.

AR ÉIRINN NÍ NEOSFAINN CÉ hí

Aréir is mé ag téarnamh um neion
ar an taobh thall den teora ina mbím
do thaobhnaigh an spéirbhean i m' chombhair
d'fhág taomanach breoite lag sinn.
Do ghéilleas dá méin is dá cló
dá bréithre 's dá beol tana binn.
Do léimeas fá dhéin dul 'na comhair
is ar Éirinn ní neosfainn cé hí.

Dá ngéillfeadh an spéirbhean do m' ghlór
agus ráite mo bheoil a bheith fíor
go deimhin duit, go ndéanfainn do ghnó,
do léirchur i gcóir is i gcríoch.
Do léifinn fo léir stair do m' stor
is ba mhéin liom í a phógadh ó m' chroi;
do bhéarfainn an chraobh di gan ghó,
is ar Éirinn ní neosfainn cé hí

Tá spéirbhruinneal mhaorga dheas óg
ar an taobh thall den teora ina mbím;
tá féile agus daonnacht ina snó
is deise agus meon ins an mhnaoi.
Tá folt aici ar lasadh mar ór
go cócánach ómarach bui;
tá lasadh ina leacain mar rós
is ar Éirinn ní neosfainn cé hí

Enjoy the song.

All the best,

Mick

Subject: Lyr Add: PEIGÍN IS PEADAR
From: GUEST,Brían
Date: 28 Apr 01 - 11:52 PM

Peigín is Peadar
Is a Pheigín na gcarad, is a Pheigín mo chroí,
Ó Cé hé an fear fadó sin sínte leat síos?
Ó a hó, a hó o oa, ó a hó a stóirín mo chroí.

Muise, Pheadair na gcarad, is a Pheadair mo chroí,
Sin é do leanbh nach bhfaca tú riamh
Ó a hó a, hó a óa,hó a hó a stóirin mo chroí.

Muise, shiúil mise thoir agus shiúil mise thiar,
Ach feasóg ar leanbh ní fhaca mé riamh
Ó a hó, a hó a óa hó a hó a stóirín mo chroí.

Is a Pheigín na gcarad, is a Pheigin mo chroí,
Ó éirigh 'do sheasamh 'gus réitigh greim bia
Ó a hó, a hó a óa, hó a hó a stóirín mo chroí.

Is a Pheadair na gcarad, is a Pheadair mo chroí,
Níl in sa teach aon ghreim mine buí
Ó a hó, a hó a óa, hó a hó a stóirín mo chroí

Is a Pheigín na gcarad, is a Pheigín mo chroí,
In iochtar mo mhála tá cáca mine buí
Ó a hó a, hó a óa, hó a hó a stóirín mo chroí

Muise, Pheadair na gcarad, is a Pheadair mo chroí,
Tá an cáca seo a't lán de ghineachaí buí,
Ó a hó a, hó a óa, hó a hó a stóirín mo chroí.

Is a Pheigín, is a mhaicín suífimid síos,
Ní fhagfaidh mé an baile chúns mhairfeas mé arís,
Ó a hó a, hó a óa, hó a hó a stóirín mo chroí

From CICD128 Bláth na hÓige,
Máirtín Tom Sheáinín

This song is related to Seven Drunken Nights.
See From My Tradition, Shanachie 34019 by Joe Heaney for another version, the story of The Three Advices.
Slán go fóill,
Brían.

Aingeal,

When requesting lyrics for a song it is always best to start a thread with the name in the title. Makes it a lot for the DT folks to find and put them in the database. Also makes it easier to find them when you are looking for them on a Supersearch. I transcribed the lyrics for Máire Mhór for you and put them HERE in a new thread. I did this AFTER I did a supersearch to make sure they were not already transcribed in a thread or the DT. If you are not sure how to do the search, please go to the quick links at the top of this page and read the one titled "forum search". Enjoy the song!!

Mícheál Mhór

Thanks Micheal Mhor, often I don't manage to find the lyrics on DT (for example I didn't find Pheigín mo chroí because I had seek Peigin as Malcom suggested); anyway I will try to follow your suggestion

Dia dhaoibh! Seo mise Áine -- I've been moving to a new house and dealing with the myriad of 'events' that it entails -- Glad to see my compadres are holding up the Irish end of things in my absence ;-) -- I'm hoping to be around more often now -- the Good Lord willin' and the creeks don't rise . . . and the foundation holds, and the squirels don't eat the telephone wires, and the garbage disposal doesn't eat one of the kids . . . srl, srl, srl...

Slán is beannacht oraibh uillig go deo, Áine

Actually, Aingeal/ Angelo, I pointed you to the wrong text; Antaine has posted another version of the song, Peigín 's Peadar, twice in the last year or so, which confused me.  a search for pheigin would have found this thread:  pheigin mo chroi - recorded by dervish,  which contains a transcription (without translation) from the Dervish recording -presumably taken from the sleevenotes of their earlier album Playing With Fire.  I searched to begin with for "peigin" because normally I wouldn't expect the form "pheigin" to appear in a song title unless preceded by, for example -as in the body of the song- "A"; that's the way Dervish have it, though, so maybe I have misunderstood the usage.  Irish Gaelic is not my field...

Hi, Aine, you've got an excellent team; in a few time they answered to my questions. My God that's unbelievable!
