Dear Mudcatters, I know for certain that I have offended a great many people the last day or so with my poists to the threads. I have just found out that I have lost a very dear friend and I don't think my responses would be very rational at the moment. So instead of offended others with my personal views I choose to withdraw, as I feel that if I stick around I wouldn't be able to resist some kind of retaliatory remark. I would just like to say that I do admire, though don't agree with, your pacifistic stands that have been made. But it's an almost free world and you have your opinions and I have mine. I don't wish to degenerate into the mindless fuck-you attitude of some of the trolls that have been popping up on the forum and in defference to everybody I think I will take a holiday from the cat for a week or so.

God bless everyone and lets pray for a resolution to this...whatever it may be.

Ali, many of us have said things in the past couple of days that we may regret, but we are still friends and care about one another. I am so sorry to hear of your loss. Taking time off is good and please know you will be welcomed when you are ready to return.

Alistair old bud, it's been a tough couple of days but as always, you post what is honest for you and I can neveer ask more of anyone.....But I will ask this. Make it a brief vacation and not another of those, "What the hell happened to Alistair?" things......That was a drag and I missed you.

I'm sorry to hear of your loss and may you and yours find some peace. My best as always and my sincerest thanks for your posts...and for being here with us.

renewing this thread just to thank those of you that reponded. I'm lots better now but I lost a very dear friend and found that I harboured lots of feelings and opinions that I didn't realise I had. I think that I I'll keep my opinions to myself from now on, but it helped a great deal to hear from people like 'spaw, Big Mick and Lonesome EJ who have been on the Cat as long as and longer than myself. May we pray that if the inevitable happens, then we get through it as unscathed as possible.

Again, I am very sorry about your friend, but I think you are probably not alone here in "encountering yourself" this past week. Some of us were not so close as you have been in personal life, but I think for an awful lot of us, we met the wee demon inside....for better or for worse.

Though it might temper your thoughts, I would hope that as time passes, you post what you believe and what you feel (on any subject) as you have always done. Let the encounter benefit you, but not silence your fine mind.

Ali, I also offer my PM box for a vent. Pseudolus (Frank) let me write to him. With tears streaming down my face, I told him all the things I would never say publicly. It felt good. I'll also spend less time here. I've had to take naps the last two days and am quite weary.

Ali, I think when someone posts a message that sounds full of rage, maybe the rest of us would be better off not immediately reacting but asking what happened. Maybe we'd be better off trying to understand instead of simply reacting.

You have my sympathy for the loss of your friend. I've lost people, but never in such a terrible circumstance.
