Subject: Benefit concert need info and musicians
From: GUEST,Celtic Soul
Date: 17 Sep 01 - 10:25 AM

Hi there, my friends.

I have a hall for a concert here in the DC area to benefit survivors of the recent tragedy.

What I need at this point is to know if we are aiming at a particular date, what that is, and some willing folkies to fill the hall with music. My band has agreed to do it, and I think I can get some other non-catter folkies to make it out. The more the merrier! Any takers?

Will this be in Herndon? May wish to set the date and other logistics and then see you can show?

Nope. Manassas. The Cramer center is willing to help out at little cost. They are a struggling center, and need to cover the overhead, but are willing to do it at cost.

I know we can pack the place. Heck, my band has packed the place. For a good cause the costs would be so minimal that the return could be quite a lot, especially if we sell some consumables with the profits going to the cause as well.

I am thinking that coinciding with the NY event might not be a good idea. I mean, there is always the possibility of folk being able to do both. We're not that far away from one another. A 4 hour drive from NYC proper to the DC area (if no real traffic issues).

I personally like March. DC folkies, how about it? I'll check with the hall and see what dates in March are available.

Sounds great. I'll attend but am not a performer...

May preclude us from participating, but March would lend itself to a St Patrick's based celebration and could generate alto of interest. A large number of the fire fighters and police in NYC are members of their respective Emerald Societies; I'm sure the Manassas chapter would have a high interest in helping sponsor an event, especially around St. Patricks.

Careful CS; this could snowball on ya.

Can I draw your attention to this thread?

New York Catters... a proposal...

An independant concert would be excelent, I'm sure, but if we want to make an impact it would be brilliant to do a co-ordinated NY/DC/UK/ROTW Concert as well.

April 27 looking good so far!

Cheers

Oh. Hmmm. Neat idea, but, how do we benefit the tourists? Don't get me wrong, I'm not knockin it, its just I've got an address for the Red Cross and the logistics of getting a meaningful contribution to disparate folks is a bit beyond my feable imagination.

Celtic Soul,
The Shivers will be honored to appear, please give us the date and details here. As things move along you may want to give us an email address to coordinate. And thank you for facilitating.

Regards, Chance Shiver

Dunno, Ed - I think it's a cross that bridge when we come to it situation. I guess if it is too difficult there will be plenty of other charities who can benefit.

Cheers

Under the prodding of certain "folk" folks, I been thinking of putting together a Ukulele Orchestra of some sort--A March or April date would give me time to get it together, assuming of course, that you would have such a thing--

DtG: I hear ya. In my extremely limited experince in putting one of these together, it seems the most succseeful would be one that is in lockstep with the charity early on. In that way, one can leverage relationships to organize and promote over many different mediums. For example, The Emerald Society could coordinate among its various city chapters and work locally to promote the events.

Again, this is no rain; I think its a great idea and I wish it much success.

Ed

April 27 is fine with me, if that is what folks in the NY thread are looking to do worldwide. Let me check with the hall to see if they are already booked (which I doubt, but ya never know).

Ukeleles are fine, MTed. As far as I am concerned, this ought to be the finest hodge podge of folk available.

I am looking into folk traditions of all sorts locally. I start this weekend at my usual digs, where a huge array of people are performing already. They won't all be Catters, but hey. I hope that's OK with everyone. The way I look at it, it could benefit the Cat by drawing some folks that may not have used it before. Maybe some will use the links and buy things to support the Cat as well as donate time to this other cause.

Hey, it's a dream!

Hi Guys! To coordinate the finding of tourests and other guests of the nation lost here - foriegn workers, the most of whom are English, I believe about 500 English workers and vistors, we can contact all the consulates over the next few months. The reason I propose to help the families of the guests of the nation, are that they have the least in the way of in place support. So, though I believe we owe the first thanks to Firepersonel and Police, ambulance crews and the three court officers who are still missing, there are organisations that exist, we as a little band of folkies may think of looking to those overlooked. Was down a block or two from ground zero today... I don't know how to make a web page, but if someone wants to put my digital photos up somewhere mudcatters can see em, email me at Inobu@aol.com and I will email some to ya, Cheersmdears. Keep strong, pray for peace, play for justice, Larry

M. TED.

If you put together a Ukelele Band, let me know if I can help in any way. I now have a growing collection and am practicing every day.

Do you live in the D.C. area ?

JAB

Oh, and I play gutbucket too.

Well, yes, I live here--and, as luck would have it, I am looking for, help, as you have so eloquently put it. I don't quite know how to put this, but, have you been playing for long? Can you sing? Do you have an Aloha shirt? (it takes more than a ukulele, you need an Aloha attitude!) I actually have a couple possible recruits, who are great singers, musicians, and have ukes and really great Aloha shirts, to boot--I am putting together some chord/lyric charts(albeit slowly), and this might just be the thing to get me moving--PM me for more details--
