Subject: RE: who plays the electric guitar From: jeffp Date: 26 Sep 01 - 03:47 PM When I play electric, I use a 6-string solid body Rickenbacker, a 1972, I believe. I traded a Telecaster for it straight up and have never regretted it. I absolutely love it. It hangs on me just right, so that I don't have to stretch into weird contortions to play it. It's such a joy to play, my singing improved immediately when I started playing it, due to the lack of distractions. jeffp |
Subject: RE: who plays the electric guitar From: Larry124 Date: 26 Sep 01 - 03:50 PM A semi-traditional instrument used to wreck the blues. When Roy Book Binder uses one, I will. |
Subject: RE: who plays the electric guitar From: LoopySanchez Date: 26 Sep 01 - 03:55 PM A 1989 Fender U.S. Strat Plus covers most of my needs. I also have an all-Koa Carvin DC135 that's got sweet sustain and a nice variety of sounds. |
Subject: RE: who plays the electric guitar From: UB Ed Date: 26 Sep 01 - 04:22 PM 1976 Les Paul Custom with pickup covers and pickguard removed so it looks "cool." Running through Fender Blues Junior amplifier miked to PA. Original pickups, but am consdiering new ones as the neck side is way hotter than the bridge side. |
Subject: RE: who plays the electric guitar From: Justa Picker Date: 26 Sep 01 - 04:38 PM I've always been an acoustic steel string player, but have been seriously contemplating getting an electric to assist in certain home recording projects. I've played lots of electrics, and I guess when the time comes that I do buy, it will be a maple necked Strat with a natural ash finish and white pickguard, and some sort of older, smaller Fender amp. I like the versatility that the Strat lends to a wide variety of music. (I also like the early Gibson Firebirds, but to find one in decent shape would likely be out of my financial range.) The Strat will do. |

Subject: RE: who plays the electric guitar From: Mark Clark Date: 26 Sep 01 - 11:03 PM My electric is assembled from top quality Telecaster clone parts. It's much heavier than than a Tele though. Maple neck, black body, white pick guard, brass bridge and nut... very solid. It has a high output humbucker at the bridge and three Tele-style brass knobs, two volume and a tone control in the center. I've got it strung with medium guage Thomastic flat-wound jazz strings set a little bit higher than a standard setup. Sounds very smooth. The back of the body is relieved like a Strat... very comfortable to play. I like it a lot. But I'd still rather play my Martin. - Mark |
Subject: RE: who plays the electric guitar From: Mooh Date: 27 Sep 01 - 08:45 AM Thinline Telecaster with single coil pickups, ash body in translucent red, a few minor modifications like better string trees. Usually also have a Strat but am currently without. Though I play mostly acoustic, once in a while I just gotta let rip with the gain turned way up. Peace, Mooh. |
Subject: RE: who plays the electric guitar From: Fortunato Date: 27 Sep 01 - 09:18 AM Bob, I have a couple of Telecasters. One is a '52 repo built for me by Tex Rubinowitz with a Charlie Chrisitian pickup up front and a fender in back rewound by Danny Gatton. And I have a black American Standard I bought new in '98 just to take the wear and tear off the Texecaster. If I was collecting guitars instead of rearing children I'd have a Gibson Johnny Smith and a 335. Are you playing out these days? Chance |
Subject: RE: who plays the electric guitar From: mooman Date: 27 Sep 01 - 10:35 AM I have one which I rarely play these days. It's a homemade with custom electronics that someone departing for tropical climes gave me. Great for recording but a b****r on stage. mooman |
Subject: RE: who plays the electric guitar From: 53 Date: 27 Sep 01 - 11:43 AM to fortunato: thanks for the info on your electrics, they sound very nice . no i'm not playing as much as i would like, since i've been sick this entire year and i guess that i've done about three or four gigs.i have a 1988 strat plus with the gold sensor pickups, and it has the locking sperzel tuning machines, i did some custom work to it a few years ago, i added a black pearloid pickguard, black volume, and tone controls, and a black selector switch, it plays and looks great. i also have a little fender squier bullet which i use at home to practice with ,thru a small fender champ amp. thanks for talking with me hope to hear from you again. |
Subject: RE: who plays the electric guitar From: Fortunato Date: 27 Sep 01 - 11:50 AM Bob, Sorry to hear you've been ill. We've got a fender squier around the house, too. Your Strat sounds neat. Keep in touch. regards, Chance |
Subject: RE: who plays the electric guitar From: LR Mole Date: 27 Sep 01 - 01:23 PM Yes, but were're back to the old debate: what is volt music anyway? |

Subject: RE: who plays the electric guitar From: 53 Date: 29 Sep 01 - 07:40 PM i also one time had an old gibson melody maker, i think that was my first electric, then i got an old tele, never good get that guitar to tune right but back then it was before tuners and you would tune your guitar to the organ if you had one in the band.bob |
Subject: RE: who plays the electric guitar From: 53 Date: 30 Sep 01 - 02:01 PM electric guitars to mudcatters must be like the plague, nobody wants to have one. bob. come now and speak out for your old favourite electric. |
Subject: RE: who plays the electric guitar From: Lanfranc Date: 01 Oct 01 - 10:57 AM I once had a Gretsch Tennessean, but I sold it when I bought my first Martin. (I was young and strapped for cash!) Over the years I've owned various electric guitars, but my current (*G*) electric is a Tanglewood Custom, which is a Vietnamese built solid with US-made Humbuckers, and the prettiest inlaid fingerboard ever! It plays and sounds well, too - the fingerboard is slightly wider than normal, which suits my podgy fingers. For amplification I use my Carlsbro Sherwood through a Zoom effects pedal. I also have a matched pair of Washburn Semi-accoustics, a Woodstock 6 and and EA20 12 string. But I mostly play my Martins these days. |
Subject: RE: who plays the electric guitar From: 53 Date: 01 Oct 01 - 11:47 AM lafranc, sounds like you have a nice collection of guitars, bob. |
