Some fans of the New Foundlad Band, Great Big Sea are putting together "Kitchen Tapes." I want to record a version of Rant & Roar on my penny whistle. I plan to record it on my home stereo but I dont own a microphone. I dont want to spend more than 20-30 bucks as this will be a one time thing. Can I find a decent mike for the price and the task? THe mike plug is small, a friend told me it is an "RCA " jack. Is there any thing to look for, or avoid? Than

Yer standard $10 moving coil Karaoke mike will do the job quite well, as will most condenser mikes. Don't use the automatic volume control and don't record at too high a level.

Ok please excuse the multiple typos, that should be TIN WHISTLE, and MIC is short for Microphone. And at the end it should have read "Thanks". I was under the influence of the Famous Grouse while posting!

Don't apologise for the typos. Nitpicking typos is the only fun we get around here.

I don't want to be recorded by a cheap mic.

Yours Tim Whistle.

Having myself just sent off yet another letter to HM Government refering to PUBIC entertainment, Nick you have my best wishes.

Very good Sham and bert. You've got a vaudeville future there.

Do you have a pawn shop near you? A good used mike (even a Sure or Electrovoice) can often be had for thirty bucks. Add one RCA adaptor and you'll have good sound. Tim will be pleased!

Rick
