Subject: Matchstick men From: GUEST,Helen Date: 12 May 02 - 05:33 AM We bought a Lowry print and apparently there was a song about twenty years back about Matchstick Men,and matchstick cats and dogs. (This referred to Lowrys style of painting.) I dont think its the Status Quo song. Can anyone help with the lyrics? Thanks, Helen |
Subject: Lyr Add: PICTURES OF MATCHSTICK MEN From: katlaughing Date: 12 May 02 - 05:41 AM Is this it? I remember it, but not who did it...I thought it was the Beatles, but all references on google are to Ozzy Osbourne? PICTURES OF MATCHSTICK MEN Lyrics When I look up to the sky I see your eyes, a funny kind of yellow Rush home to bed, I soak my head I see your face underneath my pillow I wake next morning, I'm still yawning I see your face looking through my window Pictures of matchstick men and you Images of matchstick men and you Alls I ever see is them and you Windows echo your reflection When I look in their direction, now There're faces haunting me Your face just won't leave me alone Pictures of matchstick men and you Images of matchstick men and you Alls I ever see is them and you You're in the sky You're with the sky You make men cry You are, you're in the sky You're with the sky You make men cry Pictures of matchstick men . . . |
Subject: RE: Matchstick men From: DMcG Date: 12 May 02 - 05:49 AM No thats not it. Its apparently by "Brina and Micheal" and you can buy it here as a karaoke! Havent't found the words yet though. |
Subject: RE: Matchstick men From: Liz the Squeak Date: 12 May 02 - 05:50 AM 'Matchstalk Men' by Brian and Michael (I think). The Status Quo is called 'Pictures of Matchstick men'. It was a dreadful song, I thought I had it somewhere on vinyl, but my collection isn't as bad as all that (Manitas' consists of 2 Goon singles, a Yetties single, 'Gaudete', a Myles Wooton, something Flemish and 'Duelling Banjos'.....). The lyrics are probably not in the Digitrad. LTS |
Subject: RE: Matchstick men From: Liz the Squeak Date: 12 May 02 - 05:54 AM The Status Quo song is not dreadful, I meant the Brian and Michael one. 'Pictures of Matchstick men' was brilliant, thanks Kat, for posting the words!! Nice to see an eclectic mix of music, although we'll probably get a guest bitching about the lack of folk/blues stuff..... Kat, as I've said (if not posted) before, there is a lot more to you than meets the eye..... I bet you know the actions to 'Hi Ho Silver Lining' too! LTS

Subject: RE: Matchstick men From: GUEST,MCP Date: 12 May 02 - 05:59 AM This has been discussed before and the words posted at Lyric Req:Matchstick Men (Type matchstick in the very usefule Digitrad and Forum Search box - it does deliver the goods sometimes you know!) Mick |
Subject: RE: Matchstick men From: katlaughing Date: 12 May 02 - 06:08 AM Your link had nothing to do with it, Mick. It went to some Latin song. In searching I did find the other words in a posting by "anthony.seaton" in this thread. LtS...I didn't remember those from memory! LOL...I do remember the song, though, really! LOL... |
Subject: RE: Matchstick men From: Liz the Squeak Date: 12 May 02 - 06:10 AM Hey, that link made me think Status Quo were doing Puer Nobis - how appropriate!!! Mind you, at least you can do links, I can't. Sorry LTS |
Subject: RE: Matchstick men From: Dave the Gnome Date: 12 May 02 - 06:26 AM Aha - the games afoot!!! If you would have searched on matchstalk in digitrad you may have found This! It is a bit corny but at least it got some folkies into the pop charts. Is that a good or bad thing though??? Lowry learned his art at Salford art college - Now part of the University - about 2 miles down the road from me. It is next to Peel Park Museum and art galley where his works used to be housed until they were moved to the Lowry centre a couple of years back. The Centre are currently display their whole collectin of Lowrys - well worth a visit! Not sure if old LS himself would approve of the new centre. I thought not at first but as he trained in architectural art I am not so sure now. The new building has certainly grown on me - and the setting is very impressive now the new War museum next is nearly finished. Hope this helps and if you need any nore info on Lowry, the centre or Salford try starting here Cheers Dave the Gnome

Typo in link that should have been Matchstick Men. (Normally I check the links immediately after I post, but guests arrived for lunch literally as I submitted that post, so it didn't get checked. Subject: RE: Matchstick men From: John J Date: 13 May 02 - 04:18 AM Hello Mum. About 27 years ago (now I really feel old) a couple of lads calling themselves 'Berk & Jerk' did a floor spot at the Ring o'Bells folk club in Middleton, n. Manchester. Their performance was hilarious, probably one of the most outrageous and funny I've ever seen. Berk & Jerk became 'Brian and Michael'. They didn't get a booking at the folk club because they weren't folk, but they were very good entertainers. John |
