I pulled into the driveway at 11:15 a.m. after dodging Rte. 95/128/93 Massachusetts traffic on my way from my cousin's place in Attleboro, MA. I hitched a ride with The Cuz to Milwaukee to see Mom and the window of opportunity was Memorial Day weekend to my B.D. We (he -- I don't actually drive standard) drove straight thru with 2 cat naps totalling less than 2 1/2 hrs., so I hope I don't fall asleep face first in the lobster and melted butter.

Besides helping Mom out with a few things and seeing old friends, I was able to stock up on my Milwaukee provisions -- candy raisins made by Stark Candies (and only available in Sudsville), cheese curds, and lots and lots of Leinenkugel. (Oh, and a couple 6 packs of Point beer, too.) And irises from my classmate's glorious iris garden!!! (Gotta plant stuff tomorrow!)

Since you've just come from Wisconsin, I take it you're familiar with the tale of the lazy farmer, William Walkey, whose wife finally told him that if he didn't start tending to the cows, he would be banished from their bedroom and its pleasures. That threat got William moving; unfortunately, he was so anxious to finish the milking quickly and avoid his wife's punishment that he gave the poor cows a terrible teat-rash, with some permanant scarring! The cows referred to William's panic attack as "The Fear That Made Bill Walkey Maim Us."

Sorry, Mick, The Cuz has a heavy foot on the gas pedal and we HAD to get back in time for me to get from his place (almost in RI) to home in time for the lobstah (and me darlin'). Nine states in less than 24 hours. I thought about warning you I'd be in the vicinity -- but I figured you were further upstate in Michigan. Drat! Another opportunity missed! (I think lunch at a highway rest area in Indiana consisted of a DQ Peanut Buster Parfait.)

I never even got to downtown Milwaukee this trip -- didn't even get a view of Lake Michigan. Spent all my time in the west 'burbs except for a road trip with a high school classmate to an iris grower in Weyauwega north of Oshkosh. I suppose Milwaukee's still standing -- I saw it on the news.

Time I guess to check in (I've been at a gallop since my return from Sudsville-on-the-Old-Polluted-Bathtub) -- Thanks EVERYONE for the B.D. greetings!!! And I plan to celebrate at least all month, so no one is at all late. (And Tom and I celebrate 20 years of marital mirth on the 26th -- more champagne, maybe lobster.)

The good news that I have to report is that I DID NOT fall asleep face first in the lobster and thus my nose does not bear the imprint of a claw nor did I inhale any melted butter. That, too, can be a gift.

No cake, though, cuz I never seem to get around to baking one myself.

Gotta get to the Getaway this year!!!
