Subject: No B.S. Newfie Nuptuals?
From: Jack the Sailor
Date: 03 Sep 02 - 01:36 AM

WE'LL RANT AND WE'LL ROAR
My name it is Robert, they call me the Sailor;
I sail on the Mudcat and have lots of fun.
Well I never thought that I'd find me a lady
But now I'm convinced that she is the one.
chorus:
We'll rant and we'll roar like true Newfoundlanders,
We'll rant and we'll roar on deck and below
We'll drive and we'll drive 'til we see North Sydney
Then onto the Ferry to Newfie we'll go.
Now my little lady she eats only veggies.
With organic milk and a hen's egg or two.
But she's a fine little sea cook when she stands in the galley
She can make a fine feast out of greens and tofu.

chorus:

Well my voyage has been good, So I'm ready to do it;
A couple of thou for the rings and the rest
A couple o' dollars for clean shirt and collars,
And everything else on Amer'can Express

chorus:

Now my little maid is in love with my country
And my little maiden is in love with me
And when we've been married for three years she will be
A compatriot and so proud I'll be

chorus:

Farewell and adieu to ye fair ones of Mudcat,
Farewell and adieu to ye girls in the net;
I'm bound to my lady, and never to wander,
If she will just take now my hand for to wed.

chorus:

Come on all you laddies and lassies of Mudcat
Come dancers and singers where ever you be
We're sure to invite you to dance at our wedding
The joy of this moment we will share with thee

chorus:

My lassie and I well we met on the Mudcat
When my lady met me she made me at home
We had a fine party in that hoser tavern
A party we still have when we're on our own

chorus:

Was that a cod fish I had in my pocket
Well I'll never tell but I will tell you this
She's the loveliest woman I ever laid eyes on
And my cod gets excited whenever we kiss

chorus:

Carol......

Oh you're my best friend, you're my soul and my lover
my night and morning, beginning and end
You are the woman I worship and cherish
I want to get married so you just say when.

Will you marry me
CarolC??

Lord Bloody Jaysus!! From the first time I played the "El Tico"....from the first time I stayed at the "Welcome Hotel", I knew there was SOMETHIN' about Newfoundland and it's people!

When my buddies from the Sons Of Erin, Little John Cameron and Ralph O'Brien moved to the Rock, I had my suspicions confirmed.....it's a hell of a good place and the people are number one!

Congrats you guys!

PS .I like the sound of this guy, Carol C. He asks you to marry him to get you to come along to Newfoundland. I seem to attract the ones who want me to move across country to their town before they will make any promises...

Why don't more men understand that a woman needs a firm offer just like anyone else who is going to take a big risk like moving?

smallpiper, Willie-O... There's talking about "splicing" and then there is demonstrating one's feelings in a romantic and public way. This way completely compliments the manner in which we came together! We first communicated on Carol's "Hoser Tavern" thread. I certainly knew that she wants to get married. But she still could have said "no" here in the MudCat.

Well, good things come outta Hoser Taverns, sometimes.

Now repeat after me:

"I'm a man

But I can change

If I hafta

I guess..."

I gotta say, though, if the lass wants to become a Canadian, makin her a Newfoundlander is kind of an end run...

No, Please, Put down the bottle of Screech. (Prefereably blunt end down.)

Hope Carol has a tolerance for inclement weather.

I'm speakin from experience, my Jersey-bred partner has been here for 18 years and is still nostalgic for South Jersey winters, which don't hardly even happen.

No problem to find MudCatters on the Rock to play at your wedding. I just came from our music camp in Gros Morne (Western Nfld) - lots of new young talent there. PM me the date of the big day and I'll take it from there.

With all the songwriting talent at the MudCat, we should have no problem getting some great songs!

I promise CarolC we'll even have a piano accordion player for the processional.

Congrats, Vinland

Thank you Vinland! We wanted to marry on The Rock. But circumstances won't allow that. We'll be getting hitched sometime this year, Probably in the Washington DC area. Carol is partial to the weekend of Canadian Thanksgiving for the date. When we pick a time and place we'll be sure to let you all know. We intend to go to Newfoundland next summer. Hopefully we'll see the Newfie catters then.

Sorry for the misunderstanding.

This may sound odd but Carol is my little piece of Canada, here in the USA. We listen to Newfoundland music, watch Canadian programming and love to talk about the Great White North. She is about the most Canadian person I've ever known. That's one of the many reasons I love her and have no doubts about our future. Carol is my home. We share a great interest in my homeland and I am so looking forward to seeing it again, through her eyes.

Cheers everyone
Thank you all for your kindness

Rob (jts) Dale

Oh congratulations...this is wonderful..

and here is a little song..sort of a sad last verse but the rest are happy...

Through oceans of distance my memory returns
To a youth spent with minkes and puffins and terns
I was born on this rock and cradled in ice
and the place that I come from is called Paradise

Paradise in the spring Paradise in the fall
at this time of my life it's the best place of all

and then I grew older from girl into maid
hurry up hurry up boys unless you're afraid
there was one I set eyes on one frosty cold night
and our first habitation was in Heart's Delight

Heart's Delight in the spring Heart's Delight in the fall
at this time of our life it's the best place of all

We knew pretty well what the future would bring
the flakes in the summer the floes in the spring
and the years rolled upon us and the years were well spent
and the place that we settled was called Heart's Content

Heart's COntent in the spring Heart's Content in the fall
at this time of my life it's the best place of all

For I was the bay girl and he the bay boy
and he filled my whole life with kinship and joy
and now he is gone and I'm burdened with care
and the place I am going is called Bay Despair
Bay Despair in the spring Bay Despair in the fall
at this time of my life it's the best place of all

line breaks added by mudelf ;-)

Thank you everyone, for your kind and loving words, and your good thoughts and wishes. I'm so thankful that the beginning of my life with Rob is being blessed by all of you lovely people in such a beautiful way.

Rob is a dear, sweet, handsome man, and the two of us make a good team. He is everything I could have hoped for in a partner, and more. And he makes me laugh. What could be better than that?

CarolC and JtS...

Bless you, bless you, bless you both!!

::wipes away some tears, but they just keep on coming::

How wonderful for you to have met and loved here and then to have found it was the same (even better!) in Real Life. I met my Beloved on the internet in a group like this. I've been living with him for two years now and every day is a joy, even in the face of some pretty huge obstacles. My wish for you both is the same kind of deep ongoing joy in each other. He'll be a Canadian, to, one of these years!

CarolC, I just missed you when you came to Orillia, and I was sorry for that. But Washington DC is only a few (5 or 6) hours away from where I am now. (HINT!) ;`)

Again, Bless you both!
