I've got tickets for Christy at the Forum in Kentish Town, London for early next month. I've seen him many times but not since his illness. How is he these days? He used to be THE MAN.

Wish I was going with you Millwall. I believe that there is no drinking or smoking allowed during his recent gigs in Dublin.

He'll be THE MAN forever so far as I'm concerned. Not measurred just by his voice but by his heart, and the look in his eye.

Those big hands have given a lot of joy, shaped a lot of evenings. For me, he's the only performer who has stood as big as Folk Music. Not by being grand but by being sincere.

Sigurd

I've given up on seeing him again here in Canada. But thanks Christy for what you could share.

Christy retired several years ago due to illness - I have just scanned his website looking for details, but couldn't find them, tho I did find mention of his return from retitement. There are lots of blue clickies on his page & meybe some of them give details. I think he was diagnosed with cancer.

I will try Mark's method of creating a blue clicky, but here is the URL incase it doesn't work.

My understanding that age and heart attacks are the primary culprets. I believe people have seen him locally, don't imagine you could ever keep him off the stage entirely, but he likely will never tour again.

Miss him but can't fault him. Wish him well.

If you ever need a place to stay in Guelph Ont. Christy :)

Sigurd

I think CM's ok physically: his problem seems to have been mainly psychological( he quit drinking about 15 years ago): a crisis of confidence: the fear (or the lack of motivation) to play live any more. Essentially, I'd guess, no more than that, that he was depressed. However he's only been retired from live shows, has been busy in the interim, writing songs, and an excellent book "One Voice" giving the words and background, plus much searingly honest autobiographical stuff, to the songs he's sung over the years: solo, with Planxty and with Moving Hearts. He's one of the great ones and he's alive and well, despite the much publicised, and courageously self-admitted,drink/drug years. It's all in his book.
