Perhaps Breezy should be in on this one - after all didn't he used to be the singer with Billy Cotton (only joking John - I know it was Alan Breeze).

Can anyone remember another song (which I think was Billy Cotton) which went:

I found a parody version HERE, but it does play the tune.

BTW Fred Heatherton's original opening verse appears to be: -

Down at the English Fair,
One ev'ning I was there,
When I heard a showman shouting
Underneath the blare.

The "Barnum" version seems to be a modification by various American performers - although the Danny Kaye words are the English ones. The lyrics sound much more likely to be English rather than American. Do you have coconut shies at American Fairs anyway ?

The International Movie Database http://www.imdb.com   lists the film's music as being from Björn Isfält who died of cancer at age 45.

I have the original sheet music in my collection. I wish I could post a jpg here....it has a comical safari cover.

yeah, that's the film music, not the 78 recording that the uncle keeps playing in the lusthaus out back. Not on the soundtrack, sadly.
