Thanks everybody.

I play guitar and sing, strictly as an amateur though. I also play all kinds of flutes, including the fife. My name is Barney and that's why I'm Barney the Fifer. My cousin is a drummer and sometimes we get together and play fife and drum music in the old Mississippi tradition.

My parents took me to folk festivals like Newport and Philadelphia in the sixties. That formed my appreciation for folk music of all kinds that has lasted into middle age.

When I said pop culture, at least musicwise, I meant the pop culture of my youth. That means the predisco era. I love TV.

That's about it.

Ah, a fellow TV lover! ...and a fellow American, I take it. Welcome from beautiful southeastern Pennsylvania, home of the Philadelphia Folk Festival and of Mudcat!!

The only advice I can add to the above is: please be sure to label threads not directly related to music with the prefix "BS" (some members prefer to use this prefix to filter out the non-music threads). BTW, your thread title here is okay since it relates directly to Mudcat! :^)

I've got to say, I love the Mudcat name you've chosen! Great pun!!

In my experience, many of the people who claim to hate, or to not watch, TV, are just in the closet. Once, at a song circle, I sang the theme songs from the Beverly Hillbillies, Gilligan's Island and Green Acres. Guess what, all 14 other folkies, including politicos, professors, a lawyer, and two doctors, all knew all the words and sang along.
