I was looking around The Blues Foundation's page and discovered more evidence that WFDU is a station to be reckoned with in the world's finest division. Bob Putignano there is getting an award from the Blues Foundation for best commercial radio show category. I believe that's pretty high praise from the Blues Community.

"Commercial Radio
Bob Putignano, WFDU-FM
Bob Putignano has been host of WFDU's (Fairleigh Dickenson University Radio) popular "Across The Tracks" program since 2000. The show features a variety of recorded Blues music, as well as live performances and interviews with musicians and industry-related talent. Broadcasting from Teaneck, New Jersey, WFDU transmits New York and New Jersey and is simulcast on the Internet. Putignano also originated WFDU's "Blues Blowout," a six-hour block of Blues music, in-studio performances, and on-air interviews presented each Saturday from 6 p.m. to midnight. Putignano is also president of the New York Blues & Jazz Society."

There's a full list of this year's recipients HERE on the Blues Foundation's Site. Looks like a good weekend in Memphis for those who go. Of course any weekend is a good one in Memphis;~)

Tweed

Thanks for noticing this Tweed! We are all proud of the work that Bob has donen to earn this award.   In fact, all of us are proud of WFDU!

We began broadcasting a format we call "Music America" back in 1980 (the same year that I started "Traditions"). Music America focused on the presenting traditional music - folk, blues, bluegrass, country and ethnic programs.   Over the years the format has evolved and "Across the Tracks" really was an offshoot - a blend of blues, R&B and jazz. When Bob joined the staff, his blues roots began showing!   It is quite an honor and he makes us all proud.

WFDU continues to present programs that offer bluegrass, country, blues and of course folk music to the New York City area (as well as the internet!). Other radio stations have come along and began calling themselves "folk", but if you listen you will see the difference.   I'm not knocking anyone here, I always think that the more the merrier - you can't perpetuate the music by yourself!

I hope some of you will check us out - either at 89.1FM if you are in the NYC area, or on the internet at WWW.WFDU.FM

Thanks for listening to my "non-commercial" interuption!

Ron

P.S. - We begin our annual fund drive in February! If you have a few dollars to spare (I wish we all did!), please don't forget us!

Dere Mr. Olesku,
It's a coincidnz i'm shore, but the fellers and me are aslo gonna hav ar fundraiser this Febuary fer ar radio tower, which you ar alreddy familyar wif. We soon larned thet you cain't run a good quality stashon on gud looks, even tho we hav pleny of them.

Hopefully we kin raze enoff cake to afford to pay royalties fer the musik thet we hav reddy to send across the earth, but khandu thinks thet meens we pay him sinz he'z confinsed he iz king of the land of cotton. I hav know idee why thet is but we ar afraid to tell him different for he won't have a fit like a sleepwalker.

Anyhow, pleez congratulate yore man Bob for me and I dug up a photo of the award he'z about to recieve. Blues don't get much press an it's a comfort to know that some radio folks out there champeen the music that some of us hav come to love so much.

**THE KEEPING THE BLUES ALIVE AWARD**

If Bob got loose and went down there, tell him to try the gumbo joint on Beale Street. You get good blues with a big bowl of good gumbo, rice and bread.

Yerz,
Tweedzrz
