I smile at a HUGE number of things. It's simply my style. Over the almost five years I've been on Mudcat, and throughout the literally hundreds of thousands of words I've written (the vast majority on technical help for musicians) two things emerge like great big elephants....I laugh my fool head off when pompous public idiots get caught with their pants down (literally and figuratively) and guess what? I distinctly said "Newt" and made no other mention of the probably millions of gay, trans-gendered, bi-sexual, and simply confused Repubs out there. By the way, I laughed just as hard when Clinton was explaining the difference between "is" and "is". So, I hope you understand that I'm an "equal opportunity" smiler.

I take my opinions reasonably seriously, because I've observed, read, and refused to embrace ANY ideology for most of my life......but often, all I can do is laugh. Sometimes it simply beats gettin' so mad that the day is spoiled!

Actually, Beccy, Cheney is NOT high profile at all. He disappears for weeks and months at a time- just like he did when he went into hiding after Septemner 11th- pops up for a day or two to mouth a few platitudes, and then disappears again. Interesting sidelight: At least part of the time that Cheney is in "an undisclosed location", he is at his home in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. A friend of mine who goes there to ski every year says he was there in February when she was there. The locals, and those who fly in to ski, are aware of it because airspace is restricted both coming and going, stranding some other people, and there are many suited-strangers in town who congregate around Cheney's home.

Beccy, again, speaking from experience here at the Mudcat...it used to drive me nuts to see a misspelled word, too,(I've a few bees under my bonnet, too) but I learned and now I can let go and let it be, unless it is a thread specifically for pedants and then, oh boy, what fun!

I don't know what anyone's stereotyping has to do with another's learning disability, but I think I am quite honest and forthright about my views on specific conservatives. Beccy, I came in 13th in the National Spelling Bee in 1966. My family and I had a wonderful week in Washington. I missed "avocet". (That was before they made bicycle seats!) I won the Delaware Valley Bee and went to Washington by spelling "gummiferous", beating out a kid from New Jersey named Alex Knisely, who spelled it the way I would have if I'd gotten it first, with one 'm'. Luck of the draw. A few years later I was a junior at Princeton and ran into a new freshman...Alex Knisely.

I too heard WBAI report it this morning - they read it from a Russian newspaper if I remember it correctly.   I have not heard any other news organization pick up on it. Doesn't mean it is true or not true.    Even it it is true, I find it hard to believe that Dick would fly anywhere.

Larry- If it's true that NBC broadcast the story, then they're not putting it on their website. I checked CNN, MSNBC, ABC news, Fox News and searched on Google, Yahoo and AJ. I checked UPI and Associated Press. There was nothing there at all about Elizabeth Cheney becoming a human shield. The only sites I saw that carried the "story" were Istanbul Indymedia and Indymedia Italia. I'm gonna go out on a pretty firm limb here and say that the story is a fabrication.

One of the Italian indy medias is reporting that Echo, the Russian report, said it is Mary, but Mary is married with three children, so it seems unlikely that it would be her.

I did hear, however, that the great, great granddaugter of Gene Autry planned to ride the great great granddaughter of Champion through the streets of Bagdhad to protest the Iraqui regime's cruelty to animals during Saddam's reign. I think she will not do that, however, until things have quietened down a bit.

Well, now we have the real story as The Guardian and FOX both are in agreement. It seems that Gingrich's lesbian sister and the Cheney kid are riding Champion to the drugstore for panty shields. So there ya' go........Glad to have the story at last!
