Subject: Tune Req: Tunes for limericks - kids From: Sam L Date: 29 Apr 03 - 10:01 AM Help, I'm a little blocked, and rushed to have a handful of tunes that can support limericks a 3rd grade class has written, for improvised singing. Helps if they're tunes the kids might know. I've only thought of Amazing Grace, the Gilligan's Island theme, Help me Rhonda, and a few others I can't recall momentarily. Oh-plasir d'amour. They can squish in a limerick. Also ...Of all the horses in the merry green wood--but I don't know what that's titled. The only kid-ish limerick I know is What a wonderful bird is the pelican/his beak can hold more than his belly can/ he can hold in his beak/ enough food for a week/ and I wonder just how in the hell he can. It might help to know a few that can get past the censor. |

There are several versions of the chorus but a comon one goes: Aye yi yi yi,As I recall there is a lot of discussion of limericks in these threads. - Mark |

On another tack, have you noticed that a vast majority of Emily Dickinson's poems fit "The Yellow Rose of Texas"? Once you learn something like that, you can't forget it. |

The/other was/big and won/prizes. C /D E D/ C B A / B G 3/4 time. / is a bar lines. . is a rest. D is low, d is high. |

I use abcm2ps so this encoding may require that program from the ABC Plus project. If you don't already have them, you'll also want Ghostscript, a free PostScript engine, and GSView, a free viewer/print program that will also produce PDF (Adobe Acrobat) files for sharing with friends. Alternatively, the coding may be very close to the original ABC specification so you might try it with older software and see if it works. It may only require minimal editing. There is a melody only ABC file included as part of the MIDI to text conversion below. - Mark
