Subject: My Darling Clementine From: Karen Rankin Date: 10 Aug 98 - 04:19 PM I am looking for lyrics to the western folk ballad, 'Oh My Darlin' Clementine' as sung in the movie My Darling Clementine (1946) which starred Henry Fonda. Thanks. |
Subject: RE: My Darling Clementine From: Roger Himler Date: 12 Aug 98 - 06:02 PM Karen, Go to the blue rectangle at the top of the page. Type in Clementine in the white space and click on the search button. You will find multiple versions of the song. If you click on the first version listed and go to the bottom of the lyrics, you will see the message Click Here in blue. Click on it and if you have MIDI support, you will hear the tune. Good luck. This is an oldy but a goody. Great for campfires and kids. Roger in Baltimore |

Subject: RE: My Darling Clementine From: Joe Offer Date: 14 Aug 98 - 04:09 PM I'm glad Karen brought up the question. I didn't know we have six variations of the song in the database. We have varieties to suit all tastes.....including bad taste. So, Karen, is one of those the version Henry Fonda sang? By the way, as a Sacramento resident, I feel bound to report that this song is set in the Sacramento area. We have a Lake Clementine in the mountains nearby, and I have heard (but I'm not sure I believe) it was named after the ill-fated young woman in the song. -Joe Offer- |
Subject: RE: My Darling Clementine From: Joe Offer Date: 17 Aug 98 - 08:59 PM Well, I wrote to the California state park where Lake Clementine is located, but I kinda think the lake and the song are not related. I found a songbook today that said "Clementine" is a music hall song from the 1880's. could this be true? I always thought of it as an original from the Gold Rush. Maybe not. Anybody know the history of the song? -Joe offer- |
