Subject: BS: Who'd a thunk it?
From: Peace
Date: 04 Jan 04 - 04:57 PM

Hi, all. I received this today from a former student. I thought it was interesting. I know some of what's below to be fact; don't know that all of it is. What surprised me most, however, is that I believe it. Sorry statement about things, I think (or maybe just my perceptions of things).

Subject: TWO TOUGH QUESTIONS

Question 1:
If you knew a woman who was pregnant, who had 8 kids already, three who were deaf, two who were blind, one mentally retarded, and she had syphilis, would you recommend that she have an abortion? Read the next question before looking at the response for this one.

Question 2:
It is time to elect a new world leader, and only your vote counts.
Here are the facts about the three candidates.

Candidate A
Associates with crooked politicians, and consults with astrologists.
He's had two mistresses. He also chain smokes and drinks 8 to 10 martinis a day.

Candidate B
He was kicked out of office twice, sleeps until noon, used opium in college and drinks a quart of whiskey every evening.

Candidate C
He is a decorated war hero. He's a vegetarian, doesn't smoke, drinks an occasional beer and never cheated on his wife.

Which of these candidates would be your choice?
Decide first... no peeking, then look down for the response.

Candidate A is Franklin D. Roosevelt.
Candidate B is Winston Churchill.
Candidate C is Adolph Hitler.

And, by the way, on your answer to the abortion question: If you said YES, you just killed Beethoven.

Never be afraid to try something new. Remember: Amateurs...built the ark. Professionals...built the Titanic.

And Finally, can you imagine working for a company that has a few more than 500 employees and has the following statistics:

* 29 have been accused of spousal abuse
* 7 have been arrested for fraud
* 19 have been accused of writing bad checks
* 117 have directly or indirectly bankrupted at least two businesses
* 3 have done time for assault
* 71 cannot get a credit card due to bad credit
* 14 have been arrested on drug-related charges
* 8 have been arrested for shoplifting
* 21 are currently defendants in lawsuits
* 84 have been arrested for drunk driving in the last year...

Can you guess which organization this is? Give up yet? It's the United States Congress. The same group that cranks out hundreds of new laws each year designed to keep the rest of us in line.

I hope it's appropriate to wish everyone a good day.

I'd vote for the girl with the biggest boobs.

Come to think of it, that's a fine analogy for politics in general anyway, ain't it?

Thanks for posting this. I've seen it before, and it's well worth reading again...

This has been around for a number of years, so any relation between it and reality is entirely coincidental, because the composition of congress changes every 2 years if for no other reason. Snopes has this to say about it.

Thanks. I saw a similar one in Canada. What surprised me was that it didn't surprise me. I would guess that the players have changed but the stats are likely similar. Unless, of course, it no longer happens that way. Canadian politics are no cleaner than American, or anyone else's for that matter.

Among other things, Snopes has this to say: "No names or dates are mentioned, of course, so trying to match individuals with the vague charges levelled in this text would be a fruitless task (especially since the composition of Congress changes at least every two years, and the piece is undated). In any case that effort would be pointless, for this article is nothing more than a cheap smear: no one in it is cited as actually having done something wrong, but merely of having been "arrested" or "accused," or being a "defendant," or having been "stopped." Isn't our system supposed to be based upon the presumption that a person is innocent until proved guilty? "

Just another broad brush at work.

As for Beethoven's birth or abortion, I'm sure I'm not the only one who chose "I'd leave it up to the mother." If she wanted an abortion, no one could fault her. On the other hand, I know of people who have deaf or blind or mentally retarded children and who consider themselves singularly blessed.

Most of this is stuff I already knew (although I wasn't aware of that much dirt about Congress). It doesn't surprise me a bit. The world would be a better place without politicians! (Yes I know nobody agrees with that statement!)

Well it is self-flattering to believe you are alone in your opinion, you aren't!!

But it is easier to say let's dispense with the profession than it is to come up with alternative mechanisms of social management.

Gawd, Bobert, that's beneath even you.

My daughter (working on her second Master's degree) works in the Nashville, Tenn. Starbucks where Al Gore stops for coffee almost every day. She says he's one of the most annoying customers she has because he can never make a decision on what kind of coffee he wants.

You're saying he would have made a better president on Sept. 11?

Not in my world, thank you....

cheers,

david

Yeah, I think it was George magazine that ran an article a couple of years ago reporting on the study a Stanford professor was working on, relating quickness of deciding on a coffee flavour and efficiency of exercising a veto. A good article as I recall. Came to the conclusion we just had too damn many flavours of coffee.

Geez, Cluin — do I detect a note or sarcasm in you post.....????

I'm shocked! Who would have thought that being a dithering moron would be a quality you would look for in a world leader faced with a crisis that could literally determine the future of mankind?

How about we engage in alternative solutions? Why don't we just ignore the Middle East and let the ancient animosities run their course? That would probably result in either A) a total disruption of oil/gas supplies to all of Europe and part of the U.S. as the Saudis/Iranians/Iraqis/Kuwaitis/Jordanians/Egyptians/etc. fight among themselves /or B) some combination out of those states wipes out Israel and two or three other states in their quest for regional hegemony?

There are things you can fault Dubya & Co. for — like why haven't they gone after Saudi Arabia, Syria, Libya, and Pakistan instead of just Afghanistan and Iraq? — but I think there might be something to say for limiting the fight to one or two theaters at a time, rather than taking on the whole region and fuelng the perception that it is an attack on all Islamic countries. The stupid already believe that — don't reinforce the notion in the slightly more sophisticated and just compound the problem.

cheers,

david

Yo, ddw,

I'd rather have someone without the the quick trigger finger, thank you....

... especially when there was no evidence, clear or unclear, that Saddam was getting ready to attack the US of A...

Sometimes you just have to *think* things thru...

Bush didn't even think, let alone think things thru...

All he did was pull out some tape from watching some stupid John Wayne western and it, not make that *IT* became foriegen policy!!!

Beam me up...

And, ddw, given the high level of hatred and mistrust of the Bush family in general by the Arab world, there's a good chance that 9/11 wouldn't have occured under a Gore watch.

And keep in mind that Bush purdt much turned his back on the Middle East, especially the Isreali/Palistinian situation adding evn more fuel on the fires of hatered and mistrust.

Yes, Bush very much created an atmosphere where a 9/11 could occur.

And I now find it very curious that there is so much sand-bagging and foot-dreagging on the Part of the Bush asministration to investigate 9/11. Let a danged airliner crash off the New England coast and divers find every danged nut and bolt to it and assemble it in a hanger to see what made it crash. Let a bunch of Saudi's highjack 4 airplanes and kill over 3000 Americans and other than using the incident as a PR bat to beat a bunch of right winged crap thru congress, like no one in the Bush adminstration cares much why or how it happened? Go figure?

Oh yeah, I forgot. Bush did respond by adopting a foreign policy that was written by Paul Worfowitz and Richard Perle back in 1992 and whacked Iraq, a country that had absolutley nothing to do with 9/11. Yeah, that oughtta improve his popularity in the Arab world. Not!

Your reasoning is flawless. Would you please find out what the current Democratic candidates do at coffee time? I'm looking for a man who only buys American coffee! A man who supports the Coffee corporations and who won't form alliances with those prissy tea drinkers on the other side of the Atlantic. I want a man who orders beverages that aren't on the menu because he has "pretty good intelligence" that those beverages are hidden in the back room!

BTW.

Bush wouldn't even know how to pronounce the coffee choices at Starbucks. For sure he's not going to choose their "Freedom Roast".

By the by...
Hitler is supected of having had an incestuous relationship with a niece. He also supposedly lived with Herr Braun for quite awhile before they were married. It also may just be propoganda but I believe I have heard that there were some really "swinging" parties going on up at the eagles nest. You also left out the fact that he was apparently very interested in the occult and tried to use the prophecies of Nostradamus to further his cause. He also had the man interpreting those prophecies killed when they weren't believed.
Add to that the fact that he was a genocidal maniac!

As far as the stats on Congress. Regardless of when or how these occured I think we all share a few of them. Who among you has never written a bad check (I know I wrote a few when I first started out, not intentionally). Most of the shoplifting, drugs, assaults etc. probably occured when they were kids well before they became interested in politics (let's hope anyway). Give us dates and times. also lumping them all together like that magnifies the "negative" image on congress. and that's still an awful small list of achievements for a body of nearly 600 people.
