Subject: RE: Suggestions for a farewell song? From: Dave'sWife Date: 25 Apr 06 - 09:35 PM More about lovers but the chorus speaks of farewells and it is a lovely tune: The last Thing On My Mind - Tim Hardin did a lovely recording of this LAST THING ON MY MIND (Tom Paxton) It's a lesson too late for the learnin' Made of sand, made of sand In the wink of an eye my soul is turnin' In your hand, in your hand. CHORUS: Are you going away with no word of farewell Will there be not a trace left behind Well, I could have loved you better Didn't mean to be unkind You know that was the last thing on my mind. As we walk on, my thoughts keep tumblin' Round and round, round and round Underneath our feet the subways rumblin' Underground, underground REPEAT CHORUS As I lie in my bed in the mornin' Without you, without you. Every song in my breast lies a bornin' Without you, without you. REPEAT CHORUS You've got reasons a-plenty for goin' This I know, this I know. For the weeds have been steadily growin' Please don't go, please don't go. Take a listen to this if a you get a chance - it's so beautiful and has that feeling of wistfulness that would appropriate |

Subject: RE: Suggestions for a farewell song? From: melodeonboy Date: 26 Apr 06 - 12:25 PM The ultimate parting song is "What a bunch of c***s" by Brian Damage! However, this should only be used for: a) People you genuinely want to see the back of, probably won't ever see again and don't mind offending. b) Really good mates who'll take it the right way! |

From: Young Buchan Date: 19 Jun 10 - 09:45 AM "Try Farewell To Cotia by Dick Gaughan on the album True and Bold...his tribute to the scottish miners during the Great Strike.A wonderful song!" Just found this by accident when looking upsomething else. Four years late, can I just point out that, in case someone reads the above in a literal sense: a) the song is not by Dick Gaughan but by the late Jock Purdon; b) it is a tribute to the men of the Harraton pit in County Durham; c) it was written long before the Miners' strike. |

Subject: RE: Suggestions for a farewell song? From: Reiver 2 Date: 22 Jun 10 - 04:07 PM I love the Irish song, "The Parting Glass," but it probably isn't quite appropriate for a school girls' farewell. But my favorite farewell song is the last verse of the Scottish "Will Ye No Come Back Again." Sweet the lav'rock's note and lang, Liltin' wildly up the glen, Och, to you we sing this song, 'Will ye no' come back again.' As a young man, I lived and worked for some time at Tuolumne Co-Op farm in California. Several families lived on the farm and many visitors came for a day or week. Whenever visitors were leaving all of the residents would gather and send them on their by singing that stanza of the old Scottish song. Reiver 2 |

Subject: RE: Suggestions for a farewell song? From: katlaughing Date: 20 Sep 11 - 10:55 PM "GUEST", I really enjoyed that, but I really was pleased to also find Beautiful Isle of Somewhere. I'd heard it for the first time earlier this week in the old Gene Autry movie mentioned on your site. Though not a Christian, I do love some of the old hymns and that one is beautiful. Thank you. kat |
