hey gang .... i feel like what'sit and mahitable.. can't get capital letters. right hand in a cast... have to see a surgon monday to straighten the break and put pins in bones in back of hand... prognosis likely ok after therapy when break sets says the er doc... feels like hell waiting for pills to work

Sounds like whatever happened you did a right and proper job of it, Larry. Good to know that even so you'll eventually be good as new, but in the meantime wearing a cast is going to get very old, at least in my experience! Good luck.

Sorry to hear it Larry. Hope you will recover soon.
My left arm has been in a cast for three weeks because I dislocated a finger while Pentjak Silat training. I fell on it after a kick and then put it straight back in myself and carried on training. It swoll up to about twice the size of my thumb overnight and after an x-ray they told me that I had buggered the ligaments. It's going to be a few weeks before I can play gain at all and several months before I can play properly (even by the modest standards I usually attain!)

Sympathies from this side mate - I did a job on my left wrist a few
years ago parking a motorbike at 65mph . NOT the best od things for a budding guitarist . Hope yopur hand settles down as well if not BETTER than my wrist did.

Good luck Larry, as one who knows my advice is take the pain killers if you can. There is no reason to be in pain. Do every bit of Physical Therapy you can. Play the Auto Harp as a therapy tool.

Or you could try the Life of Pi for weirdness,

Or do what I do under stress- go back and re read as many childhood favorites as you can find. I just finished The Secret Garden for the umpteenth time. Wrinkle in Time's next.

I know from personal experience that hand injuries like yours can be very painful and pain killers are a must.I'd just caution you to use them judiciously as the stuff that's out there now can be highly addictive and really tough to get off of. Good man! Focus on what you said in the first post - "prognosis likely ok after therapy when break sets. The one thing about pain is, there's no memory of it. I mean, you can remember being in pain alright, but you can't remember the pain itself to feel it.

I hope it went/is going well at the hospital today. And don't rush things - like Pete Seeger said, "Take it easy - but take it."

Many sympathies coming your way Larry, from one who has been through it and is (unfortunately) still going through it, although the pain is only intermittent now. I hope yours heals quickly.

Meanwhile there is a bed waiting for you in the Mudcat Recovery Ward, with an IV of your favourite drink, nice fluffy things and maybe even a bed bath if you're lucky.
