Subject: RE: inobu's broken hand... ouch! From: Mudlark Date: 17 Apr 04 - 11:11 AM Sounds like whatever happened you did a right and proper job of it, Larry. Good to know that even so you'll eventually be good as new, but in the meantime wearing a cast is going to get very old, at least in my experience! Good luck. |
Subject: RE: inobu's broken hand... ouch! From: Áine Date: 17 Apr 04 - 12:19 PM I never knew that playin' the pipes could be dangerous to your health, Lor! ;-) Take care of that hand and heal soon. Le gra is meas is mise Áine |

Subject: RE: inobu's broken hand... ouch! From: alanabit Date: 17 Apr 04 - 03:34 PM Sorry to hear it Larry. Hope you will recover soon. My left arm has been in a cast for three weeks because I dislocated a finger while Pentjak Silat training. I fell on it after a kick and then put it straight back in myself and carried on training. It swoll up to about twice the size of my thumb overnight and after an x-ray they told me that I had buggered the ligaments. It's going to be a few weeks before I can play gain at all and several months before I can play properly (even by the modest standards I usually attain!) Welcome to the Mudcat Recovery Ward! |
Subject: RE: inobu's broken hand... ouch! From: KateG Date: 17 Apr 04 - 04:03 PM It's Archie and Mehitabel...and Archie typed by pounding the keys with his head. Sounds painful, so I guess the consolation is that since you are not a cockroach, you can hunt and peck with your other hand:-) Do get well, and I hope the painkillers cut in FAST. |
Subject: RE: inobu's broken hand... ouch! From: George Papavgeris Date: 17 Apr 04 - 04:14 PM Forkin' four quid? Four forkin' quid? 'Tis nothing, don't stand there just gawking. So no ifs and buts Just get of your butts and have a forkin' food evening with Mawkin |
Subject: RE: inobu's broken hand... ouch! From: George Papavgeris Date: 17 Apr 04 - 04:15 PM How did this happen? I just posted this on a different thread (Mawkin appearing at Waltham Abbey), but it just appeared here.... What kind of gremlin is this? |
Subject: RE: inobu's broken hand... ouch! From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 17 Apr 04 - 04:43 PM Ah well - you can work on the sean nos singing in the meantime, Larry. Here's a link to "A Philosophical Song" I recently posted here. Philosophical in the sense "Oh well, that's life...": ...So if your words should fall apart, Think on Napoleon Bonaparte, And how at length he did depart For Saint Helena's shores, And did he rage and did he curse Or did he mutter something worse? Oh no, he sang a tuneful verse, Rehearsing all his wars. And in the South Atlantic he Displayed such equanimity, His hand he pressed across his chest - And gazed out at the sea. So when you step upon a stair, And find too late there's nothing there, Great Boney too fell, just like you - It's only empty air. |
Subject: RE: inobu's broken hand... ouch! From: Leadfingers Date: 17 Apr 04 - 06:04 PM Sympathies from this side mate - I did a job on my left wrist a few years ago parking a motorbike at 65mph . NOT the best od things for a budding guitarist . Hope yopur hand settles down as well if not BETTER than my wrist did. |

Subject: RE: inobu's broken hand... ouch! From: Bobert Date: 17 Apr 04 - 09:53 PM Well danged, Larry, I limit the "S Word" to once every five years but yer danged situation????? Like... ...ahhhhh, SHIT! There, I said it and fir you folks who actually follow my postings know that this is the 1st of the George Carlins no-no words in the 2 'er 3 years I'z been comin' round here... I mean, like what a roral bummer! Heck, I just sliced off part of my left index finger and thought that life was over but here I am, one month later palying guitar like it mever happened... But a broken hand???? Make's this ol' hillbilly shudder from head to toe... Like, ouch, bummer, ouch, ouch...... Man, don't get no inexperienced guy to do the surgery. Get a danged rich Republican surgeon who has done lots of 'em. Don't talk no polertics wid him, thou, 'er he'll mess you up worser. Them Repubs is real mean spirited, Larry... But, fir God's sake, don't get no idealistic kid just out of doctor school who says he was with you at the January marches against the war... No, Havens no... If ya gotta follow yer surgeon out to make sure he has a big ol' American Flag decal on the back of his gas guzzlin' SUV, do it!!! That's my advice... Ouch... Like how did you do this? No, don't tell me...... Danged.... Bobert |

Subject: RE: inobu's broken hand... ouch! From: GUEST,DonMeixner Date: 18 Apr 04 - 01:30 AM Good luck Larry, as one who knows my advice is take the pain killers if you can. There is no reason to be in pain. Do every bit of Physical Therapy you can. Play the Auto Harp as a therapy tool. Hold hands with hot, beautiful women and then hold hands with cold glasses of beer. Don |
Subject: RE: inobu's broken hand... ouch! From: alanabit Date: 18 Apr 04 - 03:41 AM How did you do it Larry? It would be comforting to hear that there was someone out there with an even worse excuse than my own! |

Subject: RE: inobu's broken hand... ouch! From: Leadfingers Date: 18 Apr 04 - 06:42 AM Larry- We will have a drink for you at The Black Lion with Kendall and Sorcha tonight. Have you read Pratchett ?? If not start with The Colour of Magic and carry on through the next twenty five or six hilarious Disc World books. Heal well and fast. |
Subject: RE: inobu's broken hand... ouch! From: JennyO Date: 18 Apr 04 - 07:11 AM But how did you break it???? Enquiring minds want to know. Or is the truth too awful to tell? |
Subject: RE: inobu's broken hand... ouch! From: AllisonA(Animaterra) Date: 18 Apr 04 - 07:29 AM Oh, Larry, what a shame! Holding you tight in the Light and hoping those pain killers keep working! Leadfingers book suggestion is excellent! Pratchett is the best! Or you could try the Life of Pi for weirdness, The Da Vinci Code for bad writing, gripping story (how does he do that??) Or do what I do under stress- go back and re read as many childhood favorites as you can find. I just finished The Secret Garden for the umpteenth time. Wrinkle in Time's next. Hang in there! Allison Allison |
Subject: RE: inobu's broken hand... ouch! From: George Papavgeris Date: 18 Apr 04 - 07:45 AM Nah, ignore the rest, go for Pratchett any day. And let us know your favourite characters (mine are "cut me own throat" Dibbler and Nanny Ogg). |

Subject: RE: inobu's broken hand... ouch! From: van lingle Date: 18 Apr 04 - 09:40 AM Larry, I warned you that the listening public would one day rise up against those pipes. Just kiddin', I'm a fan as you know. I'm sorry to hear about this. I know from personal experience that hand injuries like yours can be very painful and pain killers are a must.I'd just caution you to use them judiciously as the stuff that's out there now can be highly addictive and really tough to get off of. I'll check in on you to make sure your keeping up with your PT. Best of luck, old boy. Dave |

Subject: RE: inobu's broken hand... ouch! From: George Papavgeris Date: 19 Apr 04 - 03:32 AM It's the knitting I would miss the most...that and the ability to scratch that little spot in the middle of the back where you need to stretch and hold your breath to reach it. |

Subject: RE: inobu's broken hand... ouch! From: SINSULL Date: 19 Apr 04 - 09:46 AM So sorry, Larry. When the pain killers don't work, try bourbon and chicken soup. Thinking of you. Mary |
Subject: RE: inobu's broken hand... ouch! From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 19 Apr 04 - 04:13 PM Good man! Focus on what you said in the first post - "prognosis likely ok after therapy when break sets. The one thing about pain is, there's no memory of it. I mean, you can remember being in pain alright, but you can't remember the pain itself to feel it. I hope it went/is going well at the hospital today. And don't rush things - like Pete Seeger said, "Take it easy - but take it." |
Subject: RE: inobu's broken hand... ouch! From: InOBU Date: 19 Apr 04 - 05:32 PM well folkies... could't get to see the sawbones today... apointment tommorow... odd phantom pains... a little distracted... mcgrath, right you are - if not we'd all be single kids... write more soon cheers larry |
Subject: RE: inobu's broken hand... ouch! From: JennyO Date: 19 Apr 04 - 10:33 PM Many sympathies coming your way Larry, from one who has been through it and is (unfortunately) still going through it, although the pain is only intermittent now. I hope yours heals quickly. Meanwhile there is a bed waiting for you in the Mudcat Recovery Ward, with an IV of your favourite drink, nice fluffy things and maybe even a bed bath if you're lucky. Then you can tell us what we have all been waiting to know - How did you do it??? |
