Subject: Missing Mudcatters: Where Are They?
From: GUEST
Date: 27 Apr 04 - 11:22 AM

When a Mudcatter does not post for several months, I often wonder what happened to them. We all have our favorites that we look for. The best way to check for recent activity is to click on their name in an earlier post (after a name search) and see when they posted last on the list of all their posts. If the post has been several months or more, I start to wonder.

So let's use this thread to ask: Where is or what happened to....?

Where is NicoleC?

Where in the hell is khandu???? The Mother of All BS Threads is quickly approaching its first birthday and the idiot genius who inspired the thing is nowhere to be found!

The King of Mississippi (khandu) has been silent since early February. It is reminiscent of the Great Silence that occurred between early August and mid-November of last year when khandu was also not to be heard from.

Well, there are the ransom notes from the radicals who claim to have his sorry ass held captive in Toledo, Ohio, but they're probably spurious. Then there's always the possibility that he's incapacitated due to complications of pregnancy. Getting knocked up by aliens can do that to ya. Or, he may just be being a dipshit.

Another way to find posts, including when a member posts as a guest, is through this:

http://www.mudcat.org/forumsearch.cfm

If you PM someone and they don't answer, it may be they are lurking or posting without being logged in.

Also, if you Mudcat a lot, something funny happens to your sense of time. A post that feels like forever ago can turn out to have been just a few days back! Really!

Gnu's posted fairly recently:

1 gnu RE: Rick Fielding's passing. 12 Apr 04 - 11:00 AM
2 gnu RE: Guitars, Bodhrans and Irish Music 12 Apr 04 - 10:57 AM

So did NicoleC:

NicoleC:
1 GUEST,NicoleC RE: Mudcat, Please organise these threads! 13 Feb 04 - 12:51 PM
2 NicoleC RE: BS: Being alone, how? 12 Feb 04 - 10:54 PM

Thanks Susan, your posted search function is quicker. 2 months is a long time to me if a regular member does not post within that time.

People travel, move, get new jobs without computer access, take on new responsibilities, have livestock illnesses or farm conditions.... ya never know. And two months can be a heartbeat when you are caught up in a new love or some other inspiration.

But asking here makes sense. Someone usually turns out to have an email addy or a way to look into the matter.

Never hurts to collect snail addresses either. Because I lose so much paper, and have so many files and folders on the puder, I keep some of them in a PM I sent myself or I'll ask for a snail address and title the PM so the reply is easy to spot in a long list of saved messages.

You might be surprised how many regulars lurk and don't post for a long time. I PM folks like that sometimes and am always surprised how many of them promptly reply that they are either bored or disgusted with the threads!

And some people really do most of their Catting in PMs, not in threads.

~Susan

I received a PM about three years ago from Frank in the Swamps. Frank had been working the midnight shift, which, we all know will screw up your life in a huge way. Barbara is correct that a baby was also taking up a lot of time. But what better way to spend it?

I'm hoping to make it to Florida in time for the folk festival there. Frank usually tries to attend. Maybe I'll see him there. If I do, I will be sure to tell him he is missed.

I miss Bill in Alabama and Tim Jaques in Windsor. They gave us a lot in the early days of Mudcat. I hope they're well. I also miss Shula and Sheye, and Rechal - they all added a lot of humor, wisdom, and folk music knowledge to our early years.
Who was the seminary student in Denver who had such a love for Scottish music? - she was another good one.
I miss them all.

Now if only that CD hadn't been mostly instrumental ...

emple
for Susan's Dick...some time ago....

I lament the leaving of solid American Folk enthusiasts such as Mr.BSeed....and their replacment by the likes of overseas Jaques, critters, idjets, and the forlorn wives of preacher's and cops.

It is fun to spin the way-back machine...and re-live....the paths of glory.

It is even more fun spinning mischief in more furtile grounds.

Sincerely,
Gargoyle

THANKS to the addition of PM...90% of the critter-chatter has disappeared.

Night Owl is here, reading, just doesn't post much.

I've recently wanted to contact former Mudcat contributor Laoise. I understand that although she no longer lives in Belfast she occasionally visits (someone told me she played her fiddle at a function at the Belfast synagogue). It seemed from a thread that Shula knew Laoise, so I tried p-mailing Shula but she also hasn't been active at Mudcat of late ... don't know if this is the same Shula Joe Offer referred to above.

So if you know Laoise and/or how to contact her, please let me know

You don't hear much from Banjo Bonnie cause she is doing a lot of world travelling in partnership with her arctic-explorer-photographer-adventure-tour-guide squeeze Mike.

I gotta admit that though the Cat is still my homepage, I don't see many thread titles that interest me anymore--most of them look like retreads and Been-theres.
