Subject: RE: Missing Mudcatters: Where Are They? From: Gervase Date: 30 Apr 04 - 03:40 PM I've managed to put a stopper on my logorrhoea for the past year or so - partly because I no longer have unfettered access to the internet when I should be working, partly because of imbeciles like John from Hull cluttering up the place with inanities and mostly because I have tried to curb my desire to let rip at the naivete/stupidity/bellicosity or whatever that seems to infect so many of the posters here (both British and American) on the war. Ostrich-like behaviour, maybe, but I find the issue genuinely depressing, and to give vent to my true feelings would, I fear, lose me the respect of any who know me here. Thus I prefer to keep my own counsel and keep away from the keyboard. There are still those I respect, like and admire - musical friends like Morticia that I know in real life, and people whose views I respect but who I've never met, like PeterT, Amos and Fionn - but otherwise the signal-to-noise ratio here has gone downhill. Now that Gargoyle bloke - there's someone to whom I find myself increasingly drawn! |
Subject: RE: Missing Mudcatters: Where Are They? From: Amos Date: 30 Apr 04 - 04:09 PM Nice to hear from you, Gervase. And thanks for the exception!! :>) A |
Subject: RE: Missing Mudcatters: Where Are They? From: CarolC Date: 30 Apr 04 - 06:15 PM It's too bad you feel you need to stay away, Gervase, because I enjoy your posts. I saw your name in the list here, and thought to myself, oh good, Gervaise is here. |
Subject: RE: Missing Mudcatters: Where Are They? From: CarolC Date: 30 Apr 04 - 06:16 PM Oops. Sorry for the misspelling. |
Subject: RE: Missing Mudcatters: Where Are They? From: GUEST,May Day fan Date: 30 Apr 04 - 06:50 PM I miss Harry Basnett a lot on here. I liked his song about the Horses of Mayday on his CD, but he also has a friendly and knowledgeable way of posting here that I liked. Hope he will be back soon. |
Subject: RE: Missing Mudcatters: Where Are They? From: John Routledge Date: 30 Apr 04 - 08:00 PM Thanks Gervase. The "signal-to-noise ratio"says it all :0( |
Subject: RE: Missing Mudcatters: Where Are They? From: Rt Revd Sir jOhn from Hull Date: 30 Apr 04 - 09:14 PM Gervase-Just a thought, but I can't help wondering why, if you don't like my threads, why is it that you read and post to them? [The last post you made, apart from this one, was to the one I started in praise of the Astronomer Sir Patrick Moore, where you insulted him] Answer is simple, you don't like my threads, don't read them. Just done a quick trace on your posting history, at a guess, 75 % of your posts are BS. I buy a newspaper every day, there are various sections that don't interest me at all, [horoscopes, problem page etc etc], I simply don't read those sections. john |
Subject: RE: Missing Mudcatters: Where Are They? From: Amergin Date: 30 Apr 04 - 09:35 PM jOhn...at least he has something more intelligent to add than is (insert activity here) rubbish? and then answer with a simple Rubbish! Also he knows how to spell...and he doesn't appear to be mixing booze with typing...you obviously need a breathalyser next to your keyboard. |

Subject: RE: Missing Mudcatters: Where Are They? From: Benjamin Date: 01 May 04 - 01:29 AM I haven't seen Frank Hamilton in a while. I don't think he's ever responded to anything I've said, and I haven't agreed with all of his political views, but reading about his experiences (especially with the Weavers) and his views on music in general are absolutely priceless. |
Subject: RE: Missing Mudcatters: Where Are They? From: CarolC Date: 01 May 04 - 02:25 AM I saw a post from Frank Hamilton just yesterday, I think. Try doing a search on his name. |
Subject: RE: Missing Mudcatters: Where Are They? From: alanabit Date: 01 May 04 - 03:39 AM I miss khandu. I hope we'll have him back soon. It's always worth reading Frankham and I'd like to see Steve Rich back more often. Matt R seems to have mellowed. Didn't he formerly post under another name? What became of Irish Sergeant? |
Subject: RE: Missing Mudcatters: Where Are They? From: Paul from Hull Date: 01 May 04 - 07:40 PM Well, no b*gg*r seemed to miss me...*L* |
Subject: RE: Missing Mudcatters: Where Are They? From: darkriver Date: 02 May 04 - 01:32 AM gee, sorry Paul. How does that song go? "How can I miss you when you won't go away?" I recall that National Lampoon had some rather cruel remarks about a wife of a former president: Mamie Eisenhower: forgotten but not gone. doug |
Subject: RE: Missing Mudcatters: Where Are They? From: Peter K (Fionn) Date: 12 Jun 04 - 09:16 AM Thanks Gervase - I'm amazed. You are certainly one of those whom I would hope catch my drift, but I always assume that at Mudcat nobody does. However, I must say I think jOhn is pretty good value, on balance. (OK, I admit it took me quite a while to reach this conclusion.) I certainly warmed to his robust defence of himself after Amergin's unpleasant comments. What happened to Roger in Sheffield? Maybe Kat knows, as I seem to recall they had some rapport? He was only a few miles up the road from me but I never got to meet him. He seems to have disappeared off the radar around the same time as the demise of the Harlequin in Sheffield, whose sessions he attended. On the other side of the coin, I am delighted to have discovered, only today, that Michael K/MK/Michael K etc lived on in the cafe as Justa Picker. My own visits are now too infrequent for me to have noticed the transition. Anyway, I can now go and order Justa Picker's acclaimed CD knowing that I will actually be getting Michael Kaye's phenomenal fingerpicking. (Not to mentioned Rick Fielding's mandolin and dobro.) Apparently I will also be supporting Mudcat in the process. |
Subject: RE: Missing Mudcatters: Where Are They? From: GUEST, Hamish Date: 12 Jun 04 - 09:20 AM Sorry - no Khandu |
Subject: RE: Missing Mudcatters: Where Are They? From: katlaughing Date: 12 Jun 04 - 10:12 AM I think you're thinking of Roger the Skiffler. I've been wondering about Bert Hansell, lately. Hope he is doing okay. |
Subject: RE: Missing Mudcatters: Where Are They? From: CarolC Date: 12 Jun 04 - 10:32 AM There was a Roger in Sheffield also. I remember him as well. He appears to have last posted in July of 2002. |
Subject: RE: Missing Mudcatters: Where Are They? From: Peter K (Fionn) Date: 12 Jun 04 - 11:35 AM Nope, I wouldn't confuse those two, Kat, though I might well be wrong about RiS and you exchanging views in some of the threads. |
Subject: RE: Missing Mudcatters: Where Are They? From: Amos Date: 12 Jun 04 - 11:37 AM Hamish, I groan in your general direction. A |
Subject: RE: Missing Mudcatters: Where Are They? From: Genie Date: 12 Jun 04 - 11:48 AM Rev and Amos, Sonja W. Oates is alive and well. I just talked to her the other day and she may even be visiting Áine's Song Challenge!s again soon. Ya never know when and where she'll show up. As for Alex (Mousethief), somewhere I have the e-dress for his wonderful website. I think it's posted here too. |
Subject: RE: Missing Mudcatters: Where Are They? From: Peter K (Fionn) Date: 12 Jun 04 - 10:21 PM Another one missing (or at least his cookie is): Brendy, whose last thoughts as a logged-in catter were posted in December. |
Subject: RE: Missing Mudcatters: Where Are They? From: Mark Cohen Date: 12 Jun 04 - 11:43 PM Matt_R is the 'Catter formerly known as Mbo. Seems to me I saw a post from him not too long ago. We Philly boys are hard to get rid of. I haven't heard from Chocolate Pi in a long time. I believe she was in school in Chicago. She had a wry sense of humor, and was a shape note singer to boot. Wonder if she graduated. Aloha, Mark |
Subject: RE: Missing Mudcatters: Where Are They? From: Llanfair Date: 13 Jun 04 - 03:35 AM Well I'm alive and very well indeed!! Proof can be obtained from Snuffy, Mairi (pleased to meet you) and Alanww, whom I saw at Bishop's Castle yesterday, also Mrs Lemon, who was VERY busy. Oh, and Mr Red, who hadn't the foggiest idea who I was!!! Accosted in the street by a big woman with a collie!!! He looked decidedly alarmed!!! I know it's an awful cliche, but I have embarked on a spiritual journey, which takes a lot of time and energy, shaking off the persona placed on me by others, and finding my own path. Eee, these post-menopausal women!!, they all go a bit strange!!! One of my sons is a bit worried I'll start taking my clothes off!!!! Cheers, Bron. |
Subject: RE: Missing Mudcatters: Where Are They? From: MudGuard Date: 13 Jun 04 - 03:53 AM Bron, nice to hear you are alive and well! |
Subject: RE: Missing Mudcatters: Where Are They? From: Liz the Squeak Date: 13 Jun 04 - 06:42 AM Likewise Bron - good to hear from you - and Gervase - see you soon maybe?. I wondered what had happened to Roger in Sheffield too.... I sometimes wonder what happened to DW and DW at work - I got very confused by them until it was pointed out that although both Americans, they are not the same person. Neither are they me, which was suggested...... don't know why. LTS |
Subject: RE: Missing Mudcatters: Where Are They? From: katlaughing Date: 13 Jun 04 - 06:43 AM Bron!! Great to *see* you here! Fionn, I just meant that it was RtS with whom I've exchanged a fair amount of PMs, postings, etc. It's possible Roger in Sheffield and I posted back and forth, but I checked and we had no PMs, so I don't recall being in touch enough to know how he is these days.:-) |

Night Owl, will I see you out this way again soon? LL |
Subject: RE: Missing Mudcatters: Where Are They? From: Terry K Date: 14 Jun 04 - 07:16 AM I should mention that Sourdough inspired me to learn guitar, for which I am eternally grateful, but sadly he seems to have long gone. cheers, Terry |
Subject: RE: Missing Mudcatters: Where Are They? From: JulieF Date: 14 Jun 04 - 07:40 AM I used to bump into RogerinSheffield arround Sheffield occasionally. Haven't seen him for at least a couple of years. Perhaps he is no longer in Sheffield. Julie |
Subject: RE: Missing Mudcatters: Where Are They? From: Nemesis Date: 15 Jun 04 - 05:55 AM Paul in Hull ... :) I missed you ! But, then again I've not posted to many threads since the (home town) "stalker" incident of last year AND I've spent the last two months recovering from a serious accident an' no one noticed either, so akin in our unnoticedness :) xx |
Subject: RE: Missing Mudcatters: Where Are They? From: Steve in Idaho Date: 15 Jun 04 - 10:37 AM hesperis - it's OK - they don't miss a lot of people from here. Especially the ones who make them angry (not that you do that - more speaking of myself)!! Be well - Steve |

Subject: RE: Missing Mudcatters: Where Are They? From: Clinton Hammond Date: 15 Jun 04 - 11:08 AM I wish ReBop would at the very least, come back to the chat room... She was the freshest breath of newbie I can think of in the whole time I've been ghosting The 'Cat.... If you haven't get her CD yet, you should! I'm also curious if PageOfCups (My Secret Santee last year) is ever gonna say 'thanks' for the gift I sent... (Tempted to say "That's 'Cat'attude for ya"... but I won't) I know at least a few local people who used to ghost here, and were driven off by the... how was all too aptly it put above... "Signal-to-noise" ratio... (That's you I'm looking at JfH, just to name one) |
Subject: RE: Missing Mudcatters: Where Are They? From: CarolC Date: 15 Jun 04 - 11:13 AM I missed you, hesperis (at least I missed your presence here in the Mudcat). And I miss you when you're not around too, Steve. |

Subject: RE: Missing Mudcatters: Where Are They? From: Bat Goddess Date: 16 Jun 04 - 03:27 PM Early in my Mudcat excursions (late '90s), I carried on a PM flurry with Doctor John (John Bromilow) -- especially after he pointed out PMs to me and said, "answer dammit" or words to that effect. He invited me to speak to the Church Monuments Society should I be in the vicinity. (Besides being knowledgable on Little Brown Bats, I am a thanatolithologist.) The URL he gave me then seems to be long gone, as does he appear to be, alas. Anybody know what's become of him? Linn |

Subject: RE: Missing Mudcatters: Where Are They? From: Jeri Date: 20 Jun 04 - 10:14 AM Steve/Norton1: I agree with WYZ. It may be an attention span issue. I don't necessarily notice when someone's not here. ("They haven't posted since last YEAR!? I thought it was last week!") It also means that it takes too much concentration for me to remember to stay mad at anybody, and I don't like being mad anyway. One person I'm worried about is Roger in Baltimore. He said he was coming to Rick's memorial concert, and he never showed, and never said he wasn't going to come. It's fine if he just changed his mind, but I'd really like to know if he's OK. |
Subject: RE: Missing Mudcatters: Where Are They? From: freda underhill Date: 20 Jun 04 - 10:18 AM he's back! and aren't we pleased... |
