i've asked this question on another thread, but no replies from the bushites...why has not one single person who served with bush in 72 stepped forward to verify his service? can any mudcat bushbuddies offer an explanation for this? any story or newslink that clarifies this?
everybody wants to sling factoids at the CBS documents, kerry's medals, blah, blah, blah... could one of you bushbelievers answer THIS one simple question?

I was around lots in 1972. I have shredded and lost records to prove it.

Saw a woman (86 yrs.old...secretary to the commander) on TV today who remembers Bush well...she says he was around the base just fine for awhile, but then decided he didn't have to follow the rules, and decided to go work on this political campaign. Maybe that's why a few other flyers don't remember him well, and some say they are not sure....

It's still a bit fuzzy as to exactly what happened, but the way she tells it, Bush was not the only one there who had gotten into the Guard in a sneaky manner and was riding out the war that way...perhaps some of those others would just as soon NOT remember how it all went...

I'm here. I would also consider myself to be hopefully a pal of Kerry, all the Swift Boat veterans however their stories seem to conflict, anyone who deserted from the war because they just could not take it, anyone who respectfully and nonabusively opposed the war, veterans who came back with whatever opinions they rightfully earned, anyone who went to Canada, whether out of personal fear, which was justified, or moral consideration. I am not now and will never be a pal of those who were and continue to be abusive. mg

"Texans for Truth" are offering a $50,000 to anyone who can prove that dubya fulfilled his National Guard commitment.

If dubya can prove it, it would be fun to have him walk in and prove it and take home the 50 thou. Think he can?

In an interview with Charlie Rose, Bill Maher proffered the suggestion that Bush was in rehab that missing year. Kitty Kelley says that the senior bushes distanced themselves from their son that year.

to Mgarvey: does your list include people who received special considerations and assignments based on their wealth and connections, failed to carry out their duties, took up a place in a "champagne unit" that caused some other person to take THEIR place possibly in a combat unit, and then currently refuse to comment on such activities while sending other young people to die? i didn't see that category listed.
by the way, i'm wondering if you consider the question i've asked to start this thread "abusive". i didn't quite understand your last sentence and i'm curious if that's what you meant. it seems to me to be a simple question requiring a one or two sentence answer that would determine if the man now sending people to their death has any moral center or grounding that would legitimize his position.

To Guest/dubya at 10:08:

"Killian's former secretary, Marian Carr Knox, 86, of Houston has said she believed the memos were fake but their content accurately reflected Killian's opinions.

"I know that I didn't type them," she said in an interview with CBS. "However, the information in those is correct."

Guest, my response about abuse was generic and had nothing to do with your question.

To the other question, about the champagne units, the answer is yes. I caused other people to end up in combat units most likely myself. Some people in champagne units ended up quite dead and could, for all I know, be languishing yet(what a great word..Martha Stewart will languish..need a stronger word) in some cave in LAOS (and I know where one was). mg

Marian Carr Knox said Bush was quite a polite, charming young fellow, but was well known for his 'attitude', which was that he didn't have to follow the same rules as everyone else. Many of the OTHERS in the unit were also 'passing time' till the war was over, but didn't seems to have the same clout that Bush did, which got him talked about at the time. Still, most of those others are not likeley to want to call attention to themselves and THEIR service records, especially since most of them are likely Republicans and don't want to rock the boat.

This *86* year old woman, mind clear as a bell, tells it like it is/was. She says the commander started a personal journal about the situation...a 'cover your butt' record, in case he ever needed to explain why some of his pilots got preferential treatment. She DID type that, but it doesn't seem to be available after he died...
