Republicans Admit Mailing Campaign Literature Saying Liberals Will Ban the Bible
By DAVID D. KIRKPATRICK

Published: September 24, 2004

From the New York Times:

The Republican Party acknowledged yesterday sending mass mailings to residents of two states warning that "liberals" seek to ban the Bible. It said the mailings were part of its effort to mobilize religious voters for President Bush.

The mailings include images of the Bible labeled "banned" and of a gay marriage proposal labeled "allowed." A mailing to Arkansas residents warns: "This will be Arkansas if you don't vote." A similar mailing was sent to West Virginians.

In an e-mail message, Christine Iverson, a spokeswoman for the Republican National Committee, confirmed that the party had sent the mailings.

LOL! How in God's name would this society go about "banning the Bible"? It's everywhere. It's as basic to this culture as bread and butter, whether you believe in it or not. Besides, a great many Democrats DO value and believe in the Bible. Even plenty of "liberals" (as today's token imaginary "commie" boogey man is called) value and believe in the Bible.

This is fear-mongering of a really quite ridiculous sort.

It is almost criminal, if not actually criminal to prey on the public's most irrational responses like that.

Was there an element of apology expressed or implied in the confirmation?
Perhaps one of the best ads the dems could put together right now would be a very straight, simple presentation of this, across the country.

Both of those get MY vote!

Just wait! "Liberals" have plans to also ban the following once they sieze power:

- monster trucks
- ten gallon hats
- combed-back pompadour male haircuts (like Ronald Reagan's)
- eggs over easy, bacon, and Texas toast
- a free second cup of coffee
- public and/or private prayer
- crucifixes and plastic Jesus or Mary dashboard ornaments
- those big fuzzy dice that people hang from the rearview mirror
- black velvet paintings of Elvis and little kids with big eyes
- SUV's
- bras that lift and separate
- Hell...make that ALL bras!!!
- cowboy boots
- Levis Jeans
- the flag! (Ordinary Americans will not even be allowed to privately buy or fly the Stars and Stripes banner any more! I swear it's true! Those liberals will stop at nothing!)

Now that you know...now that you fully perceive what the liberals are really up to...it is time to go and and VOTE for George Bush, because he will NEVER force you to eat quiche and he will sure as HELL never take away your god-given right to raise Old Glory over your little country homestead!!!!!

By God, the time has come to stand up and be counted! Only YOU can save America from terrorists, sexual deviants, and LIBERALS!!!!!

President Bush and leading Republicans are increasingly charging that Democratic presidential nominee John F. Kerry and others in his party are giving comfort to terrorists and undermining the war in Iraq -- a line of attack that tests the conventional bounds of political rhetoric.

Appearing in the Rose Garden yesterday with Iraq's interim prime minister, Ayad Allawi, Bush said Kerry's statements about Iraq "can embolden an enemy." After Kerry criticized Allawi's speech to Congress, Vice President Cheney tore into the Democratic nominee, calling him "destructive" to the effort in Iraq and the struggle against terrorism.

heck...more right here!

"It was the latest instance in which prominent Republicans have said that Democrats are helping the enemy or that al Qaeda, Iraqi insurgents and other enemies of the United States are backing Kerry and the Democrats. Such accusations are not new to American politics, but the GOP's line of attack this year has been pervasive and high-level.

• On Tuesday, Sen. Orrin G. Hatch (R-Utah), chairman of the Judiciary Committee, said terrorists "are going to throw everything they can between now and the election to try and elect Kerry." On Fox News, Hatch said Democrats are "consistently saying things that I think undermine our young men and women who are serving over there."

• On Sunday, GOP Senate candidate John Thune of South Dakota said of his opponent, Senate Minority Leader Thomas A. Daschle: "His words embolden the enemy." Thune, on NBC's "Meet the Press," declined to disavow a statement by the Republican Party chairman in his state saying Daschle had brought "comfort to America's enemies."

• On Saturday, House Speaker J. Dennis Hastert (Ill.) said at a GOP fundraiser: "I don't have data or intelligence to tell me one thing or another, [but] I would think they would be more apt to go [for] somebody who would file a lawsuit with the World Court or something rather than respond with troops." Asked whether he believed al Qaeda would be more successful under a Kerry presidency, Hastert said: "That's my opinion, yes."

• The previous day in Warsaw, Deputy Secretary of State Richard L. Armitage said terrorists in Iraq "are trying to influence the election against President Bush."

Please be advised that we republicans are also

poisoning the water and air
starving children
thowing homeless out on the streets
now allowing african americans to vote
taking away healthcare
giving tax breaks only to the rich   (just ignore the bill today giving tax breaks to 94 million people- don't believe it)
encouraging SUV's (for the Kerry family)
Killing innocent terrorists
lowering funing on education (it only increased 49% in the past few years when everyone knows we should have spent more)

Banning the bible is the least of your concerns.

"poisoning the water and air" True
"starving children" Mentally or Physically?
"thowing homeless out on the streets" Perhaps not- but more will soon be homeless
"now allowing african americans to vote." Let's wait for the info from Florida this year.
"taking away healthcare" More cannot afford it, many do not have it.
"giving tax breaks only to the rich   (just ignore the bill today giving tax breaks to 94 million people- don't believe it)" Who will pay your share of taxes? Your grandchild?
"encouraging SUV's (for the Kerry family)" What do you think the bushes drive?
"Killing innocent terrorists" The operative word should be "innocent"
"lowering funing on education (it only increased 49% in the past few years when everyone knows we should have spent more)" Give us the stats AND the source of them.

"Banning the bible is the least of your concerns. " Agreed.

"Killing innocent terrorists" - the point is, once you've been killed you cease being innocent, and you become a terrorist.

There is enough that this administration has done that warrants voting them out without the rhetoric. I never considered myself a liberal but if these are the tactics of the conservative then I will wear the label liberal with pride and defy any of Ashcroft's storm troopers in the gestapo, I mean Homeland Security strip me of my righhts. I am reminded of the old lady who said there was no way she was going to vote for Kennedy, "'cause of he's going to take away my TV set. It says so here."

The puzzled Democrat canvassers looked at the leaflet, and light dawned. "Uh, ma'am, it actually says he's going to close down the TVA. That's the Tennessee Valley Authority."

The old lady thought about it for a bit and said, "I ain't taking no chances."

I am a liberal, I suppose, and I have in my possession sixteen different Bibles from various translations. Maybe only fifteen, because I think there are two King James versions. I also have a few Old Testaments and a few New Testaments with others that contain apocrypha. I wasn't aware I wanted to ban them. Will I be allowed to keep them in my home?

As I recall, years ago when congress was cussin' oops I mean DIScussin' restrooms which would be for use by either/or males or females, we were informed that if the bill was made into law all of we ladies would be forced to wee-wee-Madame alongside the menfolk. It just so happens that today I happened to be in a clinic & used one o' them thar very restrooms where I entered, locked the door behind me, & ... oh, yes, they are one holers-them thar restrooms. Oh, yep, almost fergot--they'ze also outfitted to acommodate the handicapped of whichever persuasion happens to be in need. But one at a time!
Trouble is, there are actually people who not only believe these stupidities, but actually preach about them from behind pulpits.

Things that make you go hmmmmmmm. . .

That propagand struck me passing strange too, Kaleea. And this was from people who had bathrooms in their homes that both sexes routinely used. The same unisex activity has always been true on airplanes. The readiness of some to latch onto an absurdity is bemusing.
