Subject: Bill Munroe Songbook # 2 From: Sandy Mc Lean Date: 04 Oct 04 - 05:23 PM A friend asked me to do an internet search for this book of Bill Munroe's. I had no luck on E-bay or Amazon and a Google search could not find it. It is no doubt out of print and was probably published years ago. Any of you bluegrassers fanmiliar with this book? Thanks, Sandy |

Subject: RE: Bill Munroe Songbook # 2 From: Q (Frank Staplin) Date: 04 Oct 04 - 05:33 PM Spell it Bill Monroe and you will get more hits. All I could find was his "Sixteen Gems," 1999. Some of his songs are in the "Country Music hall of Fame" vol. 3 which is still available, and books by various authors. |

Subject: RE: Bill Munroe Songbook # 2 From: Sandy Mc Lean Date: 04 Oct 04 - 07:46 PM Thanks Q for correcting the spelling error and darkdriver for the info. I have already located the 16 Gems book but it is not the one. It is a songbook that Bill produced years ago. Apparently there was a #1 & a #2. My friend already has #1 but wants to add #2 to his collection. He has a vast archive of older country & western material (bluegrass included), so if he does not have this book it is probably rather hard to come by. Thanks again, Sandy |
Subject: RE: Bill Munroe Songbook # 2 From: GLoux Date: 05 Oct 04 - 10:09 AM There were two volumes of Slim Richey's Bluegrass Word Books published by Ridge Runner in 1977 and 1979 respectively that have just the words to almost 600 songs, many of which are Bill Monroe's. I doubt they are still in print, but you might keep a look out for them... -Greg |

Subject: RE: Bill Munroe Songbook # 2 From: Norval Date: 27 Feb 18 - 03:43 AM I decided to revive this old thread because Bill Monroe's WSM Grand Ole Opry Song Folio No. 2 was purchased at Goodwill for $1.50 recently. Copyright date 1953 Peer International, New York. A Google search would find Folio No. 1 on E-bay and other places but no reference to Folio No.2. I know what songs are in Folio No, 2 and wonder about the index listing for Folio No 1. After using Google with various parameters I could not find the songs listed in Folio No. 1. Among my searches was a link to a book called "The Bill Monroe Reader" which is a compilation of many articles by various authors. One of the articles in the above reader states that Folio No, 2 is a reprint of Folio No.1 with 9 songs deleted. Can anyone with Folio No. 1 supply the titles to these deleted songs? Below are the 12 songs listed in folio No. 2 (and key). Blue Moon Of Kentucky (G) Footprints In The Snow (C) I'm Goin' Back To Old Kentucky (F) Kentucky Waltz (C) Little Cabin Home On The Hill (G) Mansions For Me (Eb) Mother's Only Sleeping (F) My Adobe Hacienda (verse Eb, chorus C) Oh! Mo'nah (G) Rocky Road Blues (C) Tenbrooks And Molly (F) Wicked Path Of Sin (Bb) My Adobe Hacienda and Oh! Mo'nah don't seem to be in the BM discography. Did he play these at the Grand Ole Opry but not record them? Tenbrooks And Molly is usually listed as Molly and Tenbrooks subtitled "The Race-Horse Song". In the folio Monroe claims authorship of words and music but Wikipedia says: a traditional song of the late 19th century. One of the first recordings of the song was the Carver Boys' 1929 version called "Tim Brook." If you want the music look for Folio No. 1 but, if you collect old and rare publications try to locate Folio No, 2. The cover has a picture of BM and his horse King Wilkie. |
