Hey, Armadillo Wrangler--I've been remiss and haven't written for awhile. Awhile before that, you weren't feeling great. I hope you're fine! I hope you haven't run athwart of a recalcitrant armadillo, or anything. And that is not just because I'm concerned for my present!

the Research Elf finally got back with a few booklets (is THAT all??, you've been gone AGES!! what were you doing? reading very book in the place?) so more pressies are being gathered to make a decent sized parcel & they will be packed & sent one day sometime soon.

But they will arrive before christmas, even if a certain Research Elf has to carry them all the way.

Hooray! I've got it! My Dearownsecret Santa. You're on CHRISTMAS ISLAND aren't you? It's got LOTS of Pacific coastline. That's all it's got. Of course you meant feet not miles because Christmas Island is teeny. You were just trying to fool me. You live 40 feet from the Pacific coast on Christmas Island!! I'm so lucky. I'll bet I'm the only one with a Santa on Christmas Island!! Cheery-bye and love Joy

Yawn, Laurel, you must have patience. Christmas will come along in its own sweet time and I'm sure you will enjoy your pressie. I've already picked it out, but haven't sent it yet. I hope you can wait until Christmas Day to open it, this inability of yours to withstand suspense is a bit worrying. But I know you can do it. So I will probably send it early, we'll see. I hope you had a nice Thanksgiving Holiday. Bye for now, I must get to bed and rest up for the big push.

Hohoho, JennBrooks! How nice to hear from you. Old Santa has recovered from the election and has been scouring the planet for something suitable for you...as it looks like the whole armadillo thing is going to fall through. Don't you worry, though, Santa has your best interests at heart--my newly formed armadillo relationships lead me to believe that it's possible one could have TOO many. I will say, however, that I have become quite fond of these little critters. I'm not saying they are smart...but then, smart isn't everything!

My gift wrapping elves are a bit behind, but I think it is safe to say that your present is close to being on its way. All in all, the search for a just the right petit gateau for you has been a thoroughly pleasurable experience, well, almost thoroughly. There was one armadillo that had a real mouth on him...

I'm on my way now to go hang out with my favorite reindeer. It's Vixen, though I'm careful to not let the others know. Take care of yourself, don't get tired shopping, and remember to be verrrrry good, or Santa will be tempted to keep your present for himself!

Your humble servant, Santa.

its a long way from the land of the humble to the abode of the Bat Goddess.

so the queenly owl doth glide, her silken bundle of gifts in beak, to sail the mighty sky and to soar the highest peak.

and the little elves, do they have furry wings, and squeak like bats and other little things?

benzaiten, goddess of music

who is the bat? why is this creature so beautiful?

and bat goddess, for all i had a quid, so far i havent found a rubber squid.

to bat or not to bat? that is the question...

To be a bat, or not to be: that is the question:
Whether 'tis nobler in the fig tree to hang
and while away the dark and stormy days
Or to take wings against a sea of figs,
And by eating end them? To burp: to sleep;
No more; and by a burp to say we end
The hunger and the thousand little figs
That flesh is heir to, 'tis a consummation
Devoutly to be wish'd. To eat, to sleep;
To eat: perchance with cream: ay, there's the rub;
For in that taste of sweet what dreams may come
When we have hung forever on this hanging branch,
Must give us pause: thats to digest
and then to eat another fig,
and rest
- Soft you now!
The fair Bat Goddess! Nymph, in thy orisons
Be all my squeaks remember'd...

Well, then. Obviously the Boss has decided that he can't trust we elves to do the job of finding pressies so he's doing it himself (Or should that be herself, seeing as he's in drag to be incognito!). I don't know why!

Anyway, we're keeping an eye on you, making sure you ARE being good, even though you claim you are, but we know the truth. We've got permission to publish his opinion of you on this thread, and here we go!

Nice, with a few naughty marks. Neatness needs improvement. Behavior has been good sometimes, not so good other times. Manners could still use some attention. Was very nice last Monday.

Well done!

I've picked something that relates to Mudcat very strongly as well as myself and others here. I'll send a note later via PM when it arrives explaining what that means.

Merry Christmas!

Hello to my Secret Santa,
I'm sorry for not paying attention to this thread. I have only right now noticed that you were looking for some hints. So, what I would like most is something that tells me about you. If you have a cd of yourself that would be wonderful. Or, a copy of your favorite childhood book and why you liked it, or something about where you are from. I hope that gives you some ideas. Oh, and I love teddy bears, especially if there is one that is local to where you are.

Merry Christmas to you Secret Santa. Now if I could just think of something for me to give my Secret Santee I'd be all set.

Now - to eliminate the ones who've declared themselves - see who's still in the running. Still think it might be Christmas Island though. And then there's Hawaii using miles. Fun! Fun! Fun! Joy

Well I did look further MyowndearSanta. It was your rather quaint way of using MILES that kept sending me back to the USA. Now to get out the maps of.. oops! now I've strayed into the East China Sea and the South China sea. How can you tell where one sea starts and another finishes. Down at our coast where it's the Southern Ocean there must be bits of the Pacific and bits of the Atlantic. And how do they ever keep Bass Straight? (sorry not one of my best)
Whales - well they're pretty smart, also dolphins, but jellyfish - for example, how do they know where they are? "Am I an Atlantic jellyfish or a Pacific jellyfish?" Tricky problem! It's a tough one.
ANYWAY, Dear Santa I still think you are on Christmas Island. You'd have to clap with one hand there. No room for two!
Back to the locator list and the man with no 'at. Cheery-bye, Joy

Dear Santa et al.,

I really have been very very good, despite your assistant's protestations. Neatness is one of those accursed vices that I have never been afflicted with, nor even tempted by. Show me a neat desk and I'll show you a horribly cluttered mind.

My manners are impeccable. I open doors, let cars in in traffic, am polite to telemarketers, and always put the toilet seat down.

Do please look kindly upon me -- Tom

Sorry I haven't been around much, but the elves and I are still searching for one elusive item. We're all over the United States looking, and I hope you have received some of the postal cards we have sent you while doing so.

Mrs. (or is that Mr.?) Clause and I have looked at literally dozens (well, ok, about four) t-shirts with local themes that include flutterbys, and one of my elves says that you are already well-supplied with flutterby earrings. We may have to abandon your list entirely, and go outside and pick you a cactus ear or a prickley pear. Decisions, decisions, and we really have to get something in the mail soon!

Mike, your pressie in on its way! Since it's early in December, I dispatched Rudolph himself to fly down to Alaska. You should receive your surprise Tuesday, that is, of course, if Rudolf spends the night in Barrow - not much trouble to get in there - I like that route for wayward elves and mischievous reindeer. Now if he decides to overnight in Fairbanks, well, it may be delayed a few days.

Here's the map Rudolf is using. I think it's fairly current.

Dear Santa, its so nice to know that you are on top of things, I have only one criticism of the map that Rudolf is using. The map shows Alaska colored "green" and at this time of year (especially after the foot of snow we got last night) our landscape is most assurredly "white". I hope the poor, besotted beast doesn't get lost. Thanks for all your hard work in preparing and sending my present. I know it will be treasured, not only for its intrinsic beauty, but also for the care which you took to select it. I hope your upcoming whirlwind trip around the globe goes smoothly. Best wishes for a happy holiday season.

Mike

Hi Teresa,

I have been hoping to hear from you after I posted my hints to you very early in this thread, but now I am a little worried that everything is okay in your part of the world.

I checked to see when it was that you posted last to Mudcat and it was here

in October

I hope that everything is okay.

I found another present for you today to go with the first one. That was the one which relates to the biggest shiny thing around here. The second present is smaller, with a touch of an almost turquoise blue on it.

I had a brainwave about another small present as well, and as luck would have it I know exactly where to get it, even though I haven't seen any in the shops for a few years. When I was buying the second present I saw the other item in their showcase so I will go back and get it tomorrow. I just hope that the parcel inspectors don't think it is something dangerous when they shake the parcel. :-)

Your Secret Santa

Myowndear Secret Santa, Have I stumbled on something? Problem is there is a loose end I can't tie in. HMMMM!! Zen = Japan. Japan = Pacfic coast. Guam has one too and (pass me the ruler) it's big enough to live 40 miles from the coast on Guam, I think. More research needed. Where's the list of everyone playing this great game? Back to the files.
I still rather favour Christmas Island though. Are you sure you aren't from there Santa dear? My very best wishes. Cheers, Joy

Father Christmas reached out for another Mince Pie, then sat back in his big, comfy armchair and rested his feet on the footstool.

"Well, Mrs Christmas," quoth he "the sleigh is all loaded now. The elves have worked their little hides off this year, to get everything done in time. They're a good bunch really". He took a small sip of sherry and thoughtfully muched the mince pie.

"You know, there's only one thing wrong with being this really cool Anthropomorphic Personification - the uniform is really fetching, the red wellies are something else, and you can have a good winter holiday straight after Christmas without anyone complaining. But why do I have to drink so much of this wretched sherry? I'd far rather have a good whisky!"

Mrs Christmas sighed deeply. "I know Father" she said. It's the same every year - you come home p****d as a fart, and reeking of the stuff. And you don't even like it!"

"Aye" he sighed. "But I can't have the Brassneck to leave it - all the little boys and girls - and not so little either - would be so disappointed if I left it. And all the Dads would think me really punkoid if I started nicking their best malts every year. Can't be 'elped, I suppose".

"Maybe someone might leave you something a little different this year - a nice bottle of that Nouveau stuff that you could bring home for our Christmas Dinner!

"Maybe" replied Santa. "Still - I'd best get on. I've a long journey tonight, delivering that one to Animaterra - I hope Rudolf has filed the flight plan this year, and knows where to go..."

So saying, Father Christmas stood up, put on his bright red coat, combed his beard, and headed for the sleigh to start another night of deliveries...
