Alan: ...but first, here's Jackie to tell you all how to rid the world of all known diseases.

Jackie: Hello, Alan.

Alan: Hello, Jackie.

Jackie: Well, first of all become a doctor and discover a marvellous cure for something, and then, when the medical profession really starts to take notice of you, you can jolly well tell them what to do and make sure they get everything right so there'll never be any diseases ever again.

Alan: Thanks, Jackie. Great idea. How to play the flute. (picking up a flute) Well here we are. You blow there and you move your fingers up and down here.

Noel: Great, great, Alan...

Time to reclaim back the land and its laws for ourselves. Remove the colonial stooge Blair. I'm no limp wristed liberal pansie, I'm a working class northerner who believes in figthing the purely evil forces of Terrorism. Iraq has fuck all to do with that.

You see we've had more experience of terrorism in this country, on our own doorstep too, and we still haven't beaten it just worn it down a bit. So you would think that Sad Tony and his even sadder cronies would say, (a) You can't beat terrorists or (b)Iraq has nothing to do with terrorism or {c} Fuck off I'mm too busy fighting Gordon Brown. I know the US had to do something to avenge 9/11, and as Bin Laden was actually known to be there, Afghanistan was a logical move. However as it stands at the moment the alliance only controls a fraction of that country, and the Taliban are gaining strength again.
One other thought; if you want to invade and occupy a country it helps if you go with a big enough force to make it stick.

And don't forget that the terrorist problem we've had on OUR doorstep for a very long time has had the open support, financially as well, of a good number of Americans. It's different when you are the target isn't it!? So now George Dubya can go and beat up on everybody in sight, whether they have any proven connection with Bin Laden or terrorism or not. And Tony the sycophant Blair will follow where he leads....well you can have him DougR, we certainly don't want him!

Don't send Princess Tony over here - I just moved across the pond and thought I was shot of him.

The only thing he's interested in is making a name for himself and securing his place in the history books and, since it looks like 'New Labour' are trying to rewrite history it may be the one thing he'll be successful at.

Problem is, as was the case here last Tuesday, the alternative doesn't really engender any real enthusiasm. If there was an election in the UK tomorrow I think there would be a lot of people who would vote Labour for what they see as the lack of a viable alternative - better the devil you know idea. From what I've been hearing that was the reason Bush got back in again.

Maybe we ought to start a Mudcat party both sides of the Pond.......

Doug is not a stupid American.   He is one of over 60 million stupid americans who voted for Bush and against terrorism.

Great Britain is a tiny little island that would be speaking German today if not for stupid americans.   The same stupid americans who left your country for freedom of speech and religion.    The same stupd americans who kicked your but 200 years ago with a rag tag army of volunteers.   The same stupid americans who protect your democracy today.

We stupid americans are just not as smart as you europeans who still have a king and queen.   Not that we would ever make fun of Charley and Diana when Ian Robb does it for us.   As I recall the brilliant citizens in Great Britain were the ones who supported Chamberlain against Hitler and than voted out Winston Churchill after WW II.   He smoked cigars- who would want Churchill as a leader?

I am just a stupid american who doesn't care who your leader is.   It really doesn't make any difference in the long run.   Who is the leader of Guam, Bora Bora, Curaco, Haitii, Finland?   It really doesn't make any difference.   I like Blair. He is well spoken, understand the war on terrorism and has a name our president can pronounce.   That is enough for me as a stupid american.

The solution is obvious - bring back Margaret Thatcher, one of the three great politicians of the 20th century. Not only did she prove an effective ally to our GREATEST friends - the Americans- but she also cleaned up the cesspool in this country that was the trades union stranglehold on our economy. And those who don't like her, remember 1979 before she was elected; 25% inflation, us going cap in hand to the IMF to be bailed out for the labour government's complete incompetence in running the country, and GB a laughing stock throughout the world. Blair only did anything right because he stole Tory policies.

Larry K, your "confession " re. the intellectual level of the Americans who voted for G.W. is appreciated by all of good intention, even if it was couched in a garbled dissertation on U.K. history, and a strange account of the pre and post-war events. To put you on a more coherent and credible path: The British people didn't "support Neville Chamberlain in 1939, although the did hope that he could avoid war. And your enthusiastic promotion of the American rescue of the free world is [typically, I,m afraid] 'way off-kilter. We were glad when the Americans became at last involved in WW2. But, as in the first world war, they were years late, and didn't "enter" the fight--they were forced into it. In fact it was Germany who declared war on the USA, not the other way round. And Winston was a WAR leader. As a peacetime politician his time in parliament was a catalogue of sheer disaster. It was the SOLDIERS' vote which dumped him , by the way. We are eternally grateful for the part which America played in both of the world wars. But for gawd's sake let's have no more of the John Wayne hypercrap about Uncle Sam on his white horse galloping to the rescue. One Nazi invasion plan had already been thwarted by British/Canadian/Polish fliers long before the boys went "over there".

Take that Larry K, you ill-educated Moron, get your history facts right.

America arrived very late to both world wars, Britain had already stalled the advance of Germany and Russia was going to clean up eventually anyway. Field Marshall Montgomery who is slagged off in saving private ryan, had defeated non only than Field Marshall Rommel in North Africa previously. Was only down to Pearl Harbour that America got their hooves in.

Britain was forced to leave the colonies due to the threat from France and a certain little emporer.

One sentence says it all:

Compare Rugby to American football!

Do you see how stupid these anti-war protesters are?

They talk about past wars and they are proud of them but then they whine and say war is never necessary.

The American anti-war protesters are particularly stupid because they refuse to acknowledge that there would not even be a USA if it were not for the American Revolutionary War.

We arrived late in the war becaue of the rediculous pacifist movement in this country (gee nothing has changed in 60 years) and the fact that FDR didn't think the USA would support a "jewish" war.   Getting in late killed 6 million jews.   Thank you FDR, Chamberlain, and the rest of Europe.   After Pearl Harbor the USA finally accepted the war and didn't consider it only a "jewish problem".

To think that Britain and France would have won it without the USA is dillutional. Yippee Doo- you must be getting your facts from your brother Scooby Doo.

If you want to defend firing Churchill be my guest.   History seems to treat him very well.

As for Les Barker- he was fired from the Sactuary Concert Seriew in New Jersey after someone won free concert tickets to the performance.   The person didn't know anything about Les and looked up his web site.    The person read the piece "Questions" and was taken aback by many comments including the one "Israel was a nation founded by terrorista and maintained today by terrorists in uniform"   The person was horrified and called the Church and Scott Sheldon who runs the concert.   I went to the FP festival in NJ a few weeks before the event where Scott was in attendance and Les Barker was one of the performers.   Scott is a good guy who has done a great jot in running the series. He made a touch decison. There was a lot of discussion on the pros and cons of firing Les on other forums.

when I heard about the issue I went to Les's web site and read "Questions"   I also was horified and sent Les an e-mail with my thoughts.   We both exchanged some heated e-mails.   Les stated that he "didn't care if he ever worked in North America again" because the "issue was far more important to him"

My questions to all of you is-   I have gone to 30 Canadian folk festivals and at least once during the festival a performer or MC makes an anti american comment.    Barker makes money in the USA and publishes a very anti american comment.    The British press labels 59 million americans stupid in their headline.   Is there an american performer who criticizes Canada or Great Britain on their web site or in their concerts?    Is there an american folk artist who write a piece about the rediculous imigration policy in Canada that allows terrorists to come in or Britains failure in Bosnia or any other issue.   I can't think of any.   Let me know if you can.   Why is it that American performers don't take cheap chots at other countries, but other country performers feel the need to take cheap shots at Americans.

Right on Larry K.

The British press got it backward. It was 55 million stupid Americans, mostly in the northern and cosstal states with big cities where the drug dealers, drug users, homosexuals, prostitutes and criminals abound.

Concerts are just political rallys now.

Harvey:   Barker can say anything he wants without persecution from our government.   I as a citizen, have every right not to buy his products and convince as many people as I can not to buy his product.   That is true free speech.

With free speech comes responsibliity for what you say.   If you are the Dixie Chicks, or Bruce Springstein you can say anything you want.   Just don't get mad if people stop buying your records.

By the way- I think free speech would be a wonderful thing in Great Britain as opposed to the BBC.   I also think free speech would be a great thing in Canada by allowing Fox News.

For some reason most mudcatters oppose allowing Fox News into Canada.    You would think they were against free speech by their remarks.

Larry, Larry, Larry!--I am a Scot---one of those who get lampooned about using their viagra tablet one lick at a time in order to save money, or who know what else can be done with sheep besides making bodhrans with their skin, or who are "porridge-eaters" or "haggis-bashers", "macs" and "jocks". Like the Americans, we can get mad when serious accusations are made, the more hurting if they have any truth attached. But for gawd's sake try having a laugh at the mischievous "digs".
Er---what "British failure " in Bosnia, by the way? News to me.
I wish "Winston Churchill" would sign himself "GUEST" ."Winnie", I have noted, is lionised on this side of the pond. Power of the media, I suppose. If he had been the paragon which is imagined in North America, he would never have been rejected, now would he? Dwight Eisenhower [an admirable leader] would willingly have strangled him at times. And Maggie Thatcher likewise. She was so damn' bad that it didn't take an election to throw her out; her own loyal Tory Party gave her the boot. Too late to save their reputation----fortunately!

And you never will.

Edinboro is one of my favorite cities in the world. It was like living in a dream with the royal mile on one side, princess street on the other and the park in the middle.   Incredible.

I didn't help matters either. I stayed in Glasgow for two nights.   My favorite professional wrestler at the time was Rowdy Roddy Piper who claimed he was from Glasgow.   I spent the two days asking every official if they knew him.   Most were not amused.
