Subject: Will Elvis be making a comeback? From: GUEST,Arturo Date: 09 Jan 05 - 09:37 PM Because of the new sales promotion in the UK and the resulting number 1 hit Jailhouse Rock does anyone think it likely that The King will be cloned and put to the task of the long awaited world tour he failed in his lifetime to achieve? Please give your views on how likely this event is and be as creative or lateral as you like. |
Subject: RE: Will Elvis be making a comeback? From: Little Hawk Date: 09 Jan 05 - 09:43 PM By all means, let's hope it happens. Chongo Chimp has been working on mastering his Elvis Impersonator act, and is ready in the wings to take on just such a tour...if the cloning does not succeed. |
Subject: RE: Will Elvis be making a comeback? From: Bill the Collie Date: 09 Jan 05 - 09:46 PM My sister-in-law served Elvis a coffee at Prestwick Airport but she was too shy to ask for an autograph or a photie; so, when he does come back, could you ask him on her behalf? |

Subject: RE: Will Elvis be making a comeback? From: hilda fish Date: 09 Jan 05 - 10:42 PM Whadya mean, comback? Come back? I don't think so. Elvis lives. He has his morning coffee regularly in Charlie's Cafe here in Woolloomooloo, Sydney, Australia, every morning after his walk around the Gardens. If he is in a good mood and the coffee is the right temperature he does a damn fine rendition of "Love Me Tender" (although I do like Jimmy Little's version a lot more). I thought he did it for me because he liked me but I am beginning to think he does it because he wants me to pay for his coffee. So come back music wise? I hope so. He needs the money. |
Subject: RE: Will Elvis be making a comeback? From: JohnInKansas Date: 10 Jan 05 - 01:16 AM My newspaper this morning said that they're having a birthday party for him soon, right downtown. And I believe it 'cause I read it in the Wichita Beagle. John |

Subject: RE: Will Elvis be making a comeback? From: GUEST,Arturo Date: 11 Jan 05 - 08:16 PM Some quirky and very nice postings but does nobody have any recollections of seeing the great man in the flesh in any of his heydays (50s/60s70s). I have seen the videos and to see him playing Hound Dog on the Milton Berle Show is amazing, to see his 68 Comeback is electrifying (the greatest TV performance of all time?) and "That's The Way It Is" was there ever a better concert film about a single performer? The Voice, The Charisma, The Entertainer of the Century surely! Will he be back? I think it is a matter of time, just a matter of time. Thank You All. |

Subject: RE: Will Elvis be making a comeback? From: GUEST,Sidewinder Date: 12 Jan 05 - 07:47 PM If Elvis does come back from Mars, or wherever he is, do you think he could cheer his daughter up a bit? Considering she is worth squillions of dollars she never seems particularly happy and her music is woeful. What she needs is that slip of the hip, and the leer, and twinkle in the eye.But she should avoid the Rhinestone Combat Suits and guns and hamburgers. God Love Ya! Sidewinder. |

Subject: RE: Will Elvis be making a comeback? From: GUEST,Arturo Date: 15 Jan 05 - 03:34 AM What about the cloning issue? Would it be ethical or against the laws of humanity to recreate one distinguished human being for financial and/or commercial purposes? Or do you think it would be a wonderful boost to the entertainment world? |
Subject: RE: Will Elvis be making a comeback? From: GUEST,Arturo Date: 16 Jan 05 - 01:32 AM I hope "One Night" reaches the top of the UK Charts as it is by far the greatest Rhythm and Blues song sung by a white artist. |

Subject: RE: Will Elvis be making a comeback? From: Peace Date: 16 Jan 05 - 02:57 AM I gotta admit that Fools Rush In was beautiful. But In the Ghetto? GAWD |
Subject: RE: Will Elvis be making a comeback? From: hilda fish Date: 16 Jan 05 - 06:57 PM Elvis's comeback is based on a seeking of redemption. "In the Ghetto" is an ongoing curse which I'm not sure can be redeemed and the greater problem of an American voting public that continually gets it wrong is the bigger problem in terms of redemption thus ensuring that Elvis's continuing comebacks may well be a form of living purgatory? Lordy Lordy, Elvis and his ma would be proud of me for this one. |
Subject: RE: Will Elvis be making a comeback? From: Little Hawk Date: 16 Jan 05 - 06:58 PM Elvis was a rather naive fellow, I think, basically a nice guy...and he did what his handlers advised him to do. This led to some pretty dreadful movies and some pretty dreadful songs along the way. Nonetheless, he was a truly great singer and performer. Footage of him performing in the early days is still riveting, in my opinion. |
Subject: RE: Will Elvis be making a comeback? From: hilda fish Date: 16 Jan 05 - 09:12 PM Agree. Perhaps the redemtive process is related to his handlers and is actually a curse (to them)? |
Subject: RE: Will Elvis be making a comeback? From: JennieG Date: 16 Jan 05 - 11:56 PM I found a book some time ago at my local library that was written by a woman who was supposed to have given birth to Elvis' lurve child, a daughter, when they were both about 21 (Elvis and this woman, not the daughter). In the photos the daughter did look like him, but the book wasn't well written so I didn't bother finishing it. Elvis has left the room...... Cheers JennieG |
Subject: RE: Will Elvis be making a comeback? From: GUEST,Arturo Date: 17 Jan 05 - 04:05 AM One Night is Number 1 on the UK Chart and listed as the 1000th number 1 in history for all time. I cannot believe that intelligent people cannot appreciate a beautiful song of social awareness like In The Ghetto (The Vicious Circle). Please do yourself a favour and listen to it again without prejudice. Elvis is the American Dream personified to many people around the world. However, the tragedy of the end of his life still inspires debate and conjecture to this day and will forever be played out in Theatres and on TV as a warning to anyone who dreams of superstardom. "Be careful what you wish for, it just might come true". As for his movies he made a fortune for doing them and fans loved to see him and were happy to pay the admission. Isn't that a fair trade off? "Silly movies" most may have been but good old fashioned down home entertainment without smut, graphic sex and violence was what was required from him and Elvis gave his audience something the whole family could enjoy without trying to be pretentious and self indulgent in vying for critical acclaim above pleasing an audience as most so called actors of the day did. Some still knock him for a bad film, a poor album or for getting older and fatter but the fact remains he is still The King - who the f**k are you? If you need more convincing simply watch The 68 COMEBACK SPECIAL there has never been a better performance by anyone and probably never will. |
Subject: RE: Will Elvis be making a comeback? From: GUEST,Sidewinder Date: 17 Jan 05 - 11:29 AM Here, here! I thought Jailhouse Rock was a terrific film and must admit I quite like "In The Ghetto" but do prefer his Sun Recordings and pre Army period to the rest of his output. The Special he did gives a real insight into his talent as a performer and even today stands up as top drawer entertainment especially when he sits and plays guitar with his buddies. Best Wishes. Sidewinder. |
