The Wolves and Ducks will forever be great friends I think and all or any will always be welcome here. I miss waking up to the sound of the toys playing upstairs, Christian is such a honey. Elizabeth has a rare talent for art and we would love to show her round the galleries and the sculpture park where our Christmas photo on the fridge was taken. |

Subject: RE: BS: Ducks Fly South From: MMario Date: 31 Oct 05 - 06:36 PM whoops! I know they did get to see some honest down home hospitality - but wish they didn't have to see the "other side" quite as much as they did! |
Subject: RE: BS: Ducks Fly South From: Mrs.Duck Date: 31 Oct 05 - 05:48 PM And much appreciated it was too Susan :0) Mmario it was precisely because of the wonderful hospitality we received that we were able to rise above the setbacks. And at the end of the day some arsehole got to do my laundry while I had a great time with great people. We'll be back!!! But in the meantime our house is always open! |
Subject: RE: BS: Ducks Fly South From: wysiwyg Date: 31 Oct 05 - 03:35 PM Mmario, I dunno what you're talking about.... I DID give 'em a pee bucket at least! :~) Welcome home, Ducks 'n' Maddie! ~Susan |

Subject: RE: BS: Ducks Fly South From: Geoff the Duck Date: 31 Oct 05 - 03:23 PM Hi folks we're back home. Arived at Manchester at 9a.m. local time, home around 11.00 then slept a while. Fill you in with details later - either myself or Jane. Quack! Geoff. |
Subject: RE: BS: Ducks Fly South From: MMario Date: 31 Oct 05 - 02:08 PM well, I'm sorry to say " they got to enjoy some American hospitality" since they were horn-swoggled by their rental car company, lost in NYC, stuck in traffic, burglarized and had a stretch of rainy, depressing horrible weather - but CAN say I was glad to meet them all, and sincerely hope that they managed to have a good time despite all. Good thing they didn't have Jack with them on the entire trip though...who knows what added complications he would have raised! |
Subject: RE: BS: Ducks Fly South From: Linda Kelly Date: 31 Oct 05 - 01:56 PM come home soon -we miss you! |
Subject: RE: BS: Ducks Fly South From: Leadfingers Date: 30 Oct 05 - 09:25 PM All I can say is Ducks are nice peoples ! and in five or six years time (AND I was fifty years younger- or maybe a bit more) I would be looking at Maddy in a different way ! What a lovely girl !! What a lovely family ! |
Subject: RE: BS: Ducks Fly South From: Tannywheeler Date: 30 Oct 05 - 08:46 PM I'm glad they got to enjoy some American hospitality before they had to rush home. They were so much fun at Getaway. What a pleasure to know there are such terrific folks in the world. Glad they got (most of?) their stuff back. Tw |
Subject: RE: BS: Ducks Fly South From: GUEST,Noreen Date: 29 Oct 05 - 09:10 PM Great to hear of the travels, which we were in the middle of! Safe home, Ducks and Maddie! |
Subject: RE: BS: Ducks Fly South From: Guy Wolff Date: 29 Oct 05 - 10:06 AM The Ducks have gone from our house south east to Mystic Seaport for two days .That would put them on the plane either this afternoon or tomorrow . Its easy for me to loose time so Im a bad one to talk . I thought they said they were getting on the plane Saterday afternoon but that wouldnt give them 2 days in Mystic witch is the main thing I remember them saying !! . If theeyr hotel room had hook up Geoff said he would let us all know how they were doing .. I think the twins will like the aquarium if they find the time. Its on the same ticket so I hope they get there as well . Happy QUACKING !! |
Subject: RE: BS: Ducks Fly South From: Liz the Squeak Date: 29 Oct 05 - 06:07 AM Guy - the chimes of the clock commonly known as 'Big Ben' are called 'Westminster Chimes' and are nearly always reproduced wrongly! However... today and tomorrow, until 4pm, they won't be heard at all - The chimes are 'closed for maintenance' - first time they've been silenced for 20 years, for repair and cleaning. I hope they find the time to retune them too... one of them is slightly out and makes me wince every time I hear it! Hope the Ducks are OK. LTS |
Subject: RE: BS: Ducks Fly South From: Col K Date: 28 Oct 05 - 10:42 PM Where are they now? When do they fly home? |
Subject: RE: BS: Ducks Fly South From: Guy Wolff Date: 28 Oct 05 - 11:35 AM Cet I concure . We gave them the best matrasses we had for the floor in the music room and not one complaint ! Molly and Rowen slepped near their feet ( At least at the begining of the evening ). Maddy and Elizabeth had a really great connection . They went off with an art teacher to have a look at an Alexander Calder exhibit at a local museum . Lots of stuffed animals were exchanged who are now imigrating to Briton with the Ducks . But to have the chance to sit and play music in quantity in the eveings was just what was needed. We actually found ourselves doing early Fairport Convention, I showed Geoff one of my faverites from the 60's : " Truck Drivers Queen" a classic . He had notes I didnt remember for Maddy Groves (Jane had every verse) and black Leg Minor or SkewBAll . Lots of Morris tunes as well . I sent Geoff home with a "Humanatone" that I hope makes it out at some aproppriate moment at the right session. Just ask and I am shore he will give you a demonstration of this inportant American traditional instroment . It was also great fun to hear about so many mudcatters from them . The perfect house guests and as we said a few minutes ago as they got in their car this will not be the last time we gett togtether. As always in these moments it is time to thank MAX again .. What magic can happen when like minded people get together and Max you really have made a vehicle for helping THAT to happen .. All the best , Guy |
Subject: RE: BS: Ducks Fly South From: CET Date: 27 Oct 05 - 04:27 PM Glad to hear it. Best wishes to all. I can certify that the Ducks make very good house guests. They don't complain about the accommodations and they sing for their supper. Edmund |

Subject: RE: BS: Ducks Fly South From: Guy Wolff Date: 25 Oct 05 - 01:15 PM So glad to hear the news . !! We do have a tower rather early Norman in character but no Big Ben . We also do have a stuffed Bobby from Micca and Kat in London that are part of Christian's play group . My Two are both rather young in their tastes so I think this is going to be a very good mix . I think we can find some Bass or Newcastle Brown localy or something Boston like . erica and I are unseasoned in that realm .. Just needing practice ..All the best , guy |
Subject: RE: BS: Ducks Fly South From: wysiwyg Date: 25 Oct 05 - 11:21 AM Ducks-- I wasn't able to get the two found children's items in the mail to Guy in time; if you will PM me your UK address I will be happy to send them along. Travel well! ~Susan |
Subject: RE: BS: Ducks Fly South From: Charmion Date: 25 Oct 05 - 07:44 AM Thanks to Artoush the Armenian autobody guy (Art's Collision Services [no kidding], corner Heron Road and Kaladar Avenue, Ottawa), the Ducks are winging down the 417 to Ormestown and Beer. Nobody slept very soundly last night -- too much tension yesterday -- but despite the continuing rain today's omens look good. The Ottawa police were their usual sweet, efficient selves. Constable Jason Savoury was responding to a complaint about grafitti when he found two of the four stolen Duck suitcases in the schoolyard where the thieves had dumped them. He delivered them to our front door on his way back to the station at the end of his patrol shift. Geoff and the kids recovered a few more items during two sweeps of the neighbourhood; Mollie is very proud of having found her sock. Best of all, nothing of significance was lost -- except, of course, a good night's sleep and a day in Ormestown with Beer and family. What were the good things that happened? Let's see: Edmund leading the flock down Parliament Hill with a twin by each hand, birdlike voices reaching us on the damp breeze. Maddy in the Peace Tower: "Is there a reason why that clock looks so much like Big Ben?" Chocolate ice cream at three meals. Fuller's London Pride (voted Britain's best ale) at The Royal Oak, and several rounds of "Who Am I? 20 Questions". Try to imagine Maddy as Hitler ... Rowan as David Beckham is a little more likely. By the way: You will know your day has taken a sharp left turn if you ever find yourself calling the police dressed only in a towel and a light coating of bathwater. |
Subject: RE: BS: Ducks Fly South From: Mrs.Duck Date: 24 Oct 05 - 09:18 PM Good news Beer. We plan to set off as close to 7am as will be possible so maybe we will get there in good time! Guy we still plan to get to you as planned sometime late afternoon/early evening on Wednesday. Thanks everyone for the good wishes and if you ever need a body shop in Ottawa go to Art's he is a gem! |
Subject: RE: BS: Ducks Fly South From: Beer Date: 24 Oct 05 - 06:24 PM If you happen to read this before you leave tomorrow, then don't push it for 10 a.m. I plan to try and make the rendez-vous for 11. Beer |

Subject: RE: BS: Ducks Fly South From: jacqui.c Date: 24 Oct 05 - 04:34 PM Sorry to hear the news Ducks - hope that it doesn't cause too much inconvenience. Which rental company did you use - I'm sure that enquiring minds will want to know what company to avoid in the future! |
Subject: RE: BS: Ducks Fly South From: ranger1 Date: 24 Oct 05 - 04:20 PM Ducks and Maddy, it was wonderful to meet you all and I'm sorry you didn't get to come to Maine. Sorry to hear about the break-in, hope nothing was taken that can't be replaced. And Maddy, do I have to give ColK back? |

Subject: RE: BS: Ducks Fly South From: Mrs.Duck Date: 24 Oct 05 - 04:00 PM Chose to ignore rental company and have repairs done here in Ottawa. How can I drive 1000 miles with kids and no rear window to get a new car!! Will delay our journey south cutting short our visit with Beer but the alternative was not a possibility. Hopefully the rest of the trip will be less eventful! |
Subject: RE: BS: Ducks Fly South From: Tinker Date: 24 Oct 05 - 01:01 PM I've been a base for a variety of JFK travellers this year. Let me know if you need an unexpected landing. |

Subject: RE: BS: Ducks Fly South From: CET Date: 24 Oct 05 - 12:06 PM Mrs.Duck - the police have been very helpful and Charmion has been wonderful. A lot of our clothes have been found strewn around a field but they will wash! |
Subject: RE: BS: Ducks Fly South From: bobad Date: 24 Oct 05 - 10:57 AM Most unfortunate and sad to hear that this occured in Ottawa which is generally regarded as being safer than many other cities in this regard. Hope the rest of your visit proceeds more enjoyably. |
Subject: RE: BS: Ducks Fly South From: CET Date: 24 Oct 05 - 10:50 AM Unfortunately dawn in Ottawa brought the discovery that our rental car had been broken into and pillaged. Some of our laundry has been recovered but we now have no rear quarter light. The rental company say we cannot have it repaired but must return the vehicle to the nearest office for a replacement - that being JFK airport!!! We are hoping to have temporary repairs done and carry on as planned but it is a real pain in the a***. We will keep folk informed if you are expecting us as there may be delays but hopefully not. Jane and Geoff still at CETs. |
Subject: RE: BS: Ducks Fly South From: CET Date: 23 Oct 05 - 12:17 PM Mrs.Duck.here at Charmion and CETs. Had a great evening with music and song and of course beer and bourbon! Life just keeps getting better! |
