I was born and bread in Hull it was a nice place then. I only go there now to visit friends as I don't like the way the city is now. The city centre is dirty and ful of litter. People are rude or drunk or both. I saddens me.

If Hull is so great, what don't we read about Charlie & Camilla visiting THERE, instead of coming over and bothering the colonies?

In 1642, Hull refused entry to Charles I. This was a major event leading up to the English Civil War which ended with the King getting his head cut off. – So Hull isn't all bad!

I just want to say that I accompanied a busload of disabled people today on a bus trip to the Sea Life Centre in Hull - called the Deep.

And we had a great time. The local people were really pleasant to us and helpful and polite.

Nothing prepared me for the actual building that The Deep is housed in. It is a stunningly beautiful location . From the observatory at the top - you can see the whole bay - from Spurn Point to Immingham and there is a fabulous view of the Humber Bridge -its entire span.

As it is the hometown of The Watersons - I thought maybe there should be some traditional folk music there reflecting the seafaring folk of Hull who contributed so much to our folk culture.

Also as the home of The Hull truck theatre co. - there must be a fair number of actors around the place. I couldn't help feeling - maybe somebody could be a narrator, in the same way that there is on the hoe in Plymouth - but perhaps they do that somewhere else in Hull.

anyway. well done done Hull!

If England needed an enema, they'd stick the tube in Hull.

I speak as I find. Hull was a very gracious host to a group of disabled people yesterday. Its citizens can be proud of the impression that a handsome looking city made.

Hull's the place where the locals haggle in the pound shops.

Hull's the place once described by a genetically challenged Doncastrian as 'that chipshop 50 miles up a railway siding!'.

Hull's the place that Larkin wrote poetry about and Lal Waterson's song about Hull 'Some Old Salty' still makes me cry.

Hull's the place I've returned to 153 times in the past 38 years.

Hull's the place.

"It's rahter like that bloke Hannaran (sp?) what accepted the blame for all of Christie's murders and got chopped for it."

It was Timothy Evans who was tried, found guilty and hung for the murders at 10 Rillington Place that were committed by Christie.

'ull is pretty much like many other place really, got it's fair share of bubbleheads, meatheads, smackheads and pissheads, ......................oh, and the shithead/s who pinched me car while I was at "Moor and Coast" fest and torched it.

But I have lived here on and of for sixty one years and me wife came from Oxford to live here and me mother in law came from Canada to live here so I guess it ain't so bad?

Oh, and it hosts the brilliant "Shanty Festival" every year and the Watersons and loads of brilliant and talented people came from here, like; William Wilberforce, Maureen Lipman, David Whitfield,Punch The Horse, David Bowies guitar player,Brian Rix,Les Fromull, Amy Johnson,Mr Foot from the fishshop,Charlie Jackson from "The Bluebell", Hydrallic Jack from all points west north and east,Pidgeon Smith, Roland , Nature boy, Frying pan jock, and that brilliant local MP John Pr................. ah well, back to the heads.

"In Harrogate
theres a Pizza Hut
               But
         It's shut"
------------
Wasn't that written by e.e. cummings? It's his style, for sure.

I want to know - has sir nOrman usurped sir jOhn, or is he an alter ego?

weelittledrummer: thanks for sticking up for Hull with a statement about a visit that actually happened, instead of old news and prejudices.

Thanks Les, what made it worst was the Humberside bobbies ringing me up before I had time to report is stolen and tried to nick me for pinching petrol !!

Whoever had nicked me car drove it round to a service station, filled it up - presumably to create a bigger blaze - and drove away without paying.
