Subject: BS: Wegmans From: beardedbruce Date: 06 Sep 05 - 10:18 AM FYI, Wegmans is a "grocery " store chain. Store #7 is in Dulles/Sterling Virginia, off Rte. 28 behind the Ferrari/Maserati dealer. The place has to be seen to be appreciated. Each section is the size of most grocery stores- Tea alone ( well, including herb teas) is its own aisle. The hot food section is larger than the food court at most malls, and it is the only place I have seen that has whole truffles ( at 299 a pound) in the vegetable section. |
Subject: RE: BS: Wegmans From: beardedbruce Date: 06 Sep 05 - 10:31 AM OK, to continue... Hot food section has a coffee shop, a sandwichce shop, a pizza shop, a bakery, a cookie shop, a sushi bar, a hot soup bar, a hot entre section, two desert shops, a deli counter, and a Chinese/American buffet ($6.99 per pound). There may have been a salad bar, and there is an olive bas elsewhere in the store, between the wine and the cheese sections. Aisles in fresh vegetables include herbs, organic vegetables, melons, onions, etc- each a full length aisle. |

Subject: RE: BS: Wegmans From: beardedbruce Date: 06 Sep 05 - 10:48 AM logenberry soda on sale this weekend... a little too sweet for me. |
Subject: RE: BS: Wegmans From: pdq Date: 06 Sep 05 - 11:07 AM What about the important stuff like spatulas! And Ketchup. Having just one or two kinds in the average grocery store is downright un-American. |
Subject: RE: BS: Wegmans From: beardedbruce Date: 06 Sep 05 - 11:09 AM lots of spatulas... I did not check the ketchup- but there is a condiment aisle. I suspect a few more than one or two kinds of ketchup/catsup are there. I'll check the next time I am in there. |
Subject: RE: BS: Wegmans From: Little Hawk Date: 06 Sep 05 - 11:45 AM Sounds like the Mal-Wart of grocery stores... Can you use your American Excess Card there? |
Subject: RE: BS: Wegmans From: Donuel Date: 06 Sep 05 - 01:55 PM IT is not the evil empire like Walmart. In fact it is rated number 1 as the best place to work in the State of NY by employee polls. Great benefits and conditions. The place has 30+ check outs, several restaurants, several bakeries, video store and shrimp the size of your forearm. The reason behind the store is based on the idea by Danny Wegman who thought a store that incorporated the good ideas of its customers would do well. It does well. |
Subject: RE: BS: Wegmans From: Q (Frank Staplin) Date: 06 Sep 05 - 02:03 PM I bet they even sell HP Sauce (which I have heard compared with used embalming fluid). |
Subject: RE: BS: Wegmans From: Donuel Date: 06 Sep 05 - 02:06 PM They have cans of Solo poppy seed cake filling. One piece of cake will make you test positive for heroin. |
Subject: RE: BS: Wegmans From: Raptor Date: 06 Sep 05 - 03:08 PM Why didn't they put the New Orleens refugees in wagmans instead of the superdome there would have been more room! Raptor |
Subject: RE: BS: Wegmans From: RangerSteve Date: 06 Sep 05 - 03:52 PM The Bridgewater NJ Wegmans is mostly just annoying. The bakery, which was their best section grew smaller, and now offers less types of bread than when it started up. Most of the aisles don't go from one end of the store to the other. It's kind of like being in a maze. It could be a great store. I think we're being cheated here in NJ. |
Subject: RE: BS: Wegmans From: MMario Date: 07 Sep 05 - 09:29 AM Wegman's does a good job - and I'm not just saying that because the M-I-L used to babysit Danny... |
Subject: RE: BS: Wegmans From: Little Hawk Date: 07 Sep 05 - 10:05 AM Wagman's is a store for dogs, Raptor. We are talking about Wegman's here. |
Subject: RE: BS: Wegmans From: LilyFestre Date: 07 Sep 05 - 10:43 AM I have found that Wegmans differ from store to store...especially in the produce aisle! The Wegmans in Ithaca has much more in the lines of ethnic foods than the store that is about 40 miles south. And not only is Wegmans listed as the top place to work in NY, it makes the top ten in Fortune 500's of great places to work! Definately NOT a Walmart kind of store. My only complaint is that while they have 30 checkouts, more often than not, less than 10 of them are open. Michelle |
Subject: RE: BS: Wegmans From: SingsIrish Songs Date: 08 Sep 05 - 03:48 AM I "love" Wegmans! Founded by the Wegman family in Rochester, NY. Although a Walmart Supercenter is currently under construction in my area, I don't think it will ever top Wegman's service, selection and reliability--and perhaps too, prices! They (Wegmans) seem to do a lot with local food growers, which is nice. I've heard about the Ithaca Wegmans--I would love to be able to check out some of the bigger ones, especially for the ethnic food departments. I like their Menu magazine, and also the way they give recipies in their weekly ads. Some are pretty darn good! I really liked the "gyro burgers". Incidentally, they were No. 1 in the last (not sure if it was 2004 or 2005) Fortune 500's 100 Best Places to Work, beating out companies like Cisco Systems! Cheers! Mary |
