I have heard of people tearing the corner off of $2 bills (in the U.S.) for good luck, or to prevent bad luck. This may be one of the reason they discontinued $2 for quite a number of years. He said it was so nobody would take his card and impersonate him. I never thought anybody would want to impersonate Joe Offer, so I didn't bother. Some elaborate cards had the words Visite, Felicitation, Affaires, and Adieu imprinted on the reverse side, on the corners. So whichever corner was turned up, one of those corners appeared and explained the reason for the visit. Could someone have mistaken "turning" for "burning"? |
