Subject: RE: BS: MUDCAT CHRISTMAS MESSAGE BOARD From: Comrac (troll alert contact max) Date: 23 Dec 08 - 12:47 AM Loneliness and isolation are particular issues at Christmas. The NHS says that, as Christmas is associated with friends and family, most of us will have lots of friends and family calling with us over the festive period, but it can be difficult for those on their own without a friend in the world for one reason or another. Christmas can be a particularly lonely time for older people living alone or socially isolated. There are nearly 11 million people aged 65 and over in the UK and they are twice as likely to spend Christmas alone than younger people. WRVS say the loneliness felt on Christmas Day is often the worst. So we should all make an effort to make their Christmas a little brighter! |

Subject: RE: BS: MUDCAT CHRISTMAS MESSAGE BOARD From: mouldy Date: 24 Dec 08 - 04:13 AM I believe the Chinese curse is to live in "interesting times", and today's climate is surely that, with uncertainty about the future looming large in so many peoples' lives. I'd like to thank the Mudcat (and 'catters) for the love and support I have received during my "interesting times" of late, and express a wish that this support network may continue to do its largely unsung work in the future. Here's a hope that we all have the best Christmas (or whatever you celebrate) possible, and that we may face 2009 with the determination to grab whatever is thrown at us by the throat! Andrea |
