Let's see: mosquitoes, black flies, deer flies, ticks (on the portage), and if you upset and fall in fish will bite you (yes, they will!).

I'd paddle MY canoe in a suit of plate armor smeared with DEET, if I had a canoe and a set of plate armore smeared with DEET.
