From: Mr Happy Date: 13 Mar 07 - 09:17 AM In addition to the staggering sights you may witness on the campsite etc, there are magnificent views of the surrounding landscape if you fancy a gentle stroll along the Monsal Dale [almost opposite the pub] up to Gibbet Rock. Also known as Peters stone. see here; http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/4883/28/1600/gibetrock.jpg If you keep your eyes peeled along the way, there's many fossils to be found lying on the surface |

Not sure what I'll be up to on Friday - probably walking somewhere if the weather's nice. Unless the forecast is stonking, in which case I'll bring my hang-glider along and get some hill hours in. Graham. PS. "Fossils lying on the surface" - we're back to the folkies and beer theme again, aren't we... ;-) |

Subject: RE: Easter MudFolk Peak District:Come on! From: GUEST,Philippa Date: 15 Mar 07 - 08:15 AM are dogs welcome (at campsite and outside pub)? what's the nearest train station and bus transport? (no, I don't think I'll be going there this Easter, but I might as well get the info, esp. as this is looking like an annual event) |
Subject: RE: Easter MudFolk Peak District:Come on! From: John J Date: 15 Mar 07 - 11:46 AM Me, well yes, I'll be bringing my caravan + (poor) voice, (badly played) melodeon, fell-running shoes and walking boots. Can't play any tunes on them though...but they often hum. I'm pretty good at drinking beer and falling over. John |
Subject: RE: Easter MudFolk Peak District:Come on! From: mandotim Date: 15 Mar 07 - 12:29 PM Hi Phillipa; yes, dogs are welcome both on the camping field and in the pub. Two provisos; it's lambing time, so leads are essential at Easter. Second; Geoff the landlord of the Three Stags has lots of dogs of his own, including a small pack of beer drinking whippets, who 'rule the roost' inside the pub. If your dog is sociable, it's not a problem, if not, beware drunken whippet bitches, who can be a little territorial at times. There is a bus that runs from Buxton to Baslow and goes past the pub, and there is a railway station at Buxton. Getting there could be easier though; if you go to Buxton someone is likely to be passing and may offer a lift (me, for example.) Very best, Tim |
Subject: RE: Easter MudFolk Peak District:Come on! From: Grab Date: 15 Mar 07 - 01:28 PM I'll bring my octave mandolin along, not that I'm much cop on it. Still, maybe I can loan it out and see what it sounds like when played properly. And probably my Regal resonator too - not sure I want to risk the Lowden in a packed 3 Stags session, and steel guitars are pretty much indestructable. I suspect my voicebox will be coming along for the ride too. Philippa, being in the country, it's pretty badly served for public transport. The nearest station is Hope, and the busses aren't much good. If you do want to come, I'm sure we can sort out a pick-up - PM me if you want and we can sort out contact numbers and things. (You'll need to get yourself a login on Mudcat, but why wouldn't you want one anyway? ;-) Graham. |
Subject: RE: Easter MudFolk Peak District:Come on! From: danensis Date: 15 Mar 07 - 04:12 PM O.K. I've now lost the plot completely. What date is this happening in 2007? John |
Subject: RE: Easter MudFolk Peak District:Come on! From: Mr Happy Date: 15 Mar 07 - 05:41 PM There's a cunningly concealed hint as to when this evnt will occur in the thread title. Easter this year is 6th- 10th April 2007! |
Subject: RE: Easter MudFolk Peak District:Come on! From: Mr Happy Date: 16 Mar 07 - 07:31 AM I was reminded at Wednesday's Mr Happy's Come All Ye session that Geoff the landlord of the 3 Stags Heads should be given due notice that we may well drink the pub dry, as happened last year, when the place ran out of beer on the Sunday night! Had to resort to bottles! |
Subject: RE: Easter MudFolk Peak District:Come on! From: Mr Happy Date: 17 Mar 07 - 05:13 PM Good news! Geoff at 3 Stags is now fully in the know about fothcoming thisty folkies & will make sure he has adequate supplies! |

Subject: RE: Easter MudFolk Peak District:Come on! From: Mr Happy Date: 21 Mar 07 - 11:32 AM Black Diamond, I was labouring under a misapprehension - I thought you were TT - but obviously not if you're a Rum guzzler! I do, therefore recommend that you at least indulge in a taster of the ales on offer - you say you don't care for beer - but this stuff's unbelievable!! |
Subject: RE: Easter MudFolk Peak District:Come on! From: Black Diamond Date: 21 Mar 07 - 03:42 PM no not TT - just dont like the taste of beer. I cant help it, I was born like it. my husband has tried, my Morris side has tried, the brewery up North what has guided tours has tried, and I still dont like it. But I do like rum. Am I forgiven??? |

Subject: RE: Easter MudFolk Peak District:Come on! From: bubblyrat Date: 23 Mar 07 - 07:10 AM I must say , it looks very attractive ,if somewhat distant !! Now then---does anyone think that this venue could take another couple of hundred folkies, following the sudden cancellation of this year"s Miskin Festival ??? Alternative venue now urgently sought !! Is t' camp-site big enough to take t' hordes from t' South ??? And ( more importantly for some ) does the Three Stags' Heads sell proper-job cider ?? Just a thought !! |
Subject: RE: Easter MudFolk Peak District:Come on! From: Mr Happy Date: 23 Mar 07 - 09:16 AM I'm not aware pub's stock of cider - it's the real ales that's the big attraction! |

Subject: RE: Easter MudFolk Peak District:Come on! From: Mr Happy Date: 23 Mar 07 - 10:24 AM In the knowledge that, following the sad demise of Miskin, Mr Happy's little do may now be unindated with disenfranchised Missed Skinites; here's some issues to be considered: *The 3 Stags Heads isn't a huge pub, in fact more than a dozen in the music space & its standing room only. * a possible solution to this prob could be if anyone has a largish tent that could be brought along to use as an alternative sinaround/muso venue?? |
