Subject: Origins: The Weather in Wapping (Kipper related?) From: Jim I Date: 15 May 06 - 09:06 PM On an old Kipper Family recording I have a woman singing this song. Does anyone have an idea who she is or where the song is from i.e. who wrote it? (Short excerpt below) Weather in Wapping, The The weather in Athens is sunny today It's at least 98 in the shade. And the national newspapers publish a list Of conditions from Bonn to Belgrade But back here in Wapping its cold and its wet Its the kind of a day that you'd like to forget And its not as romantic as Rome or Tibet So it never appears in the list. The weather in Athens is sunny and hot But back here in Wapping it's not! Well thanks for the postcard you sent from Bermuda I'm glad its as fine as you say But you needn't have bothered to send me the details I follow your weather each day. In the newspapers lists all the facts I'm avowed Like the hours of sunshine of which you're so proud The number of raindrops, the shape of each cloud Yes, they're all written down in the list. While the rest of the world remains quite unaware That the weather in Wapping is cold and unfair. Jim |
Subject: RE: Origins: The Weather in Wapping (Kipper related?) From: GUEST,Pennie Hackett (previously Harris) Date: 26 Nov 19 - 05:18 PM It was me. I was in Trunch Coronation band and I seem to think that Folk on 2 did a program wher all members of Trunch Coronation band were asked to do a song as individuals. Tim Laycock kindly played concertina to accompany me. If you have the rest of the words (or link to recording) I'd love to have it as I don't remember the rest. (Even though I wrote it!) Pennie |
