Subject: RE: BS: A substitute for shite? From: Dave the Gnome Date: 13 Jul 06 - 05:10 AM In my younger days polite conversation resulted in the need to go and 'do some business' when needing the toilet. Cut down to 'doing some biz' it soon became common to use 'biz' as a substitute for shite. Still makes me giggle when I hear managers telling their sales staff to get some biz in:-) Well, small things... Cheers DtG |

LOL I also remember finding out what the "PSCHITT" on the big signs on the rink was referring to when I saw the red "Pschitt" soft drink cups being sold in the stands. |
Subject: RE: BS: A substitute for shite? From: Georgiansilver Date: 10 Jul 06 - 01:15 PM I remeber buying Pschitt cola in the South of France and at the same time SIC lemonade. |

Subject: RE: BS: A substitute for shite? From: Genie Date: 09 Jul 06 - 05:48 PM Good one, Peace. LOL Ernest, glad to know it's "scheisst" not "scheit." Now I won't turn so red if -- when -- I make that slip of the tongue next time. "Pschitt Cola" used to be advertised on big signs at televised international figure skating events. Only the signs usually just said "Pschitt." :D And, yes, Ernest, some colas do taste like shite. ;-D Genie |

Subject: RE: BS: A substitute for shite? From: Genie Date: 09 Jul 06 - 05:17 AM er, .. I meant to say " '... im Winter wenn es scheit,' instead or 'wenn es schneit. |
Subject: RE: BS: A substitute for shite? From: Genie Date: 09 Jul 06 - 05:14 AM Of course the Greek is "skata," George. Duh. (I mean, I already knew Greek root of words such as "scatalogical," but I forgot.) Thanks for the memory refresher. "Scheisse" is the noun, but isn't "scheit" the 3rd person singular present tense of the verb "to shit" in German? If it isn't, I've been getting embarrassed unnecessarily when I make a slip of the tongue while singing "O Tannenbaum" and sing "... nein, auch im Winter wenn es scheidt" instead of "... wenn es schneit." |
Subject: RE: BS: A substitute for shite? From: George Papavgeris Date: 09 Jul 06 - 03:39 AM Genie, the German should be "scheisse". The Greek one by the way is "skata". But they're all piss-poor substitutes. |

From: Genie Date: 08 Jul 06 - 06:18 PM There's always: shiitake shitzu Pschitt (a German cola) or, to impress others with your linguistic erudition: caca (Italian and Spanish) merd (French) drek (Yiddish?) scheit (German - there's no "d" in it, is there?) Subject: RE: BS: A substitute for shite? From: Liz the Squeak Date: 07 Jul 06 - 05:37 AM I can't find the link now but the Metro (free newspaper on the Underground) had an item yesterday about a small transparent creature the size of a thumb that lives in the sea. Apparently this critter ingests carbon and poops it out in a form that is so heavy it sinks to the bottom really quickly and thus is not eaten. Animals that eat carbon rich poop/decaying matter in turn poop it out themselves and it eventually dissolves into the sea and thus the atmosphere. These creatures that are similar to plankton in lifestyle, have some sort of digestive system that traps the carbon in its turds so it doesn't dissolve back into the sea. So really... if we want to stop global warming and the build up of carbon dioxide, there is no substitute for a particular sort of shite. I did check the date but there is nothing to suggest it was an April Fool.... LTS |
