Subject: BS: Hezbollah message to Israeli Arabs

BEIRUT, Lebanon — Hezbollah leader Sheik Hassan Nasrallah on Wednesday warned all Israeli Arabs to leave the port city of Haifa so the militant group could step up attacks without fear of shedding the blood of fellow Muslims.

Haifa, Israel's third-largest city, has been the frequent target of Hezbollah's rocket attacks.

"I have a special message to the Arabs of Haifa, to your martyrs and to your wounded. I call on you to leave this city. I hope you do this. ... Please leave so we don't shed your blood, which is our blood," Nasrallah said.

Hezbollah's message is so very reminiscent of what the various Arab leaders told the Arab residents of the new country of Israel in 1948.

"TORONTO - Worried by the growing international criticism of civilian deaths in Lebanon, Israel's diplomatic corps has launched a counterattack, using film footage from spy planes to show Hezbollah guerrillas repeatedly launching rockets against Israel from deep within heavily populated residential areas.

Israel's Consul General in Toronto, Ya'acov Brosh, told a news conference on Thursday Hezbollah has brought its cynical way of fighting ''to new heights by hiding behind the skirts of women and the diapers of babies.''"

And it seems that not all Arabs see that slimeball as a 'freedom fighter':

"Khalifi Ashadi, 33, an Arab Christian painter whose five children vomit with terror every time an alert sounds or a rocket explodes, said: "Nasrallah is a terrorist. He doesn't care who gets killed in this. It doesn't matter to him whether it's Arabs or children. The last thing he wants is peace."

All leaders who expect to improve things by attacking their neighbours are terrorists. That includes both Nasrallah and Olmert. Oh, and George Bush too. And Tony Blair.

The nature of Hezbollah's weapons is that they are innacurate weapons...like the German buzz bombs in WWII. They can only be fired at a general large area. If Hezbollah had the wherewithal to attack Israel with more accurate weapons, such as smart bombs, satellite-guided cruise missiles, helicopter gunships, a modern air force...the kind of things the Americans and Israelis use all the tiem...they they would. As it is, they do not have that luxury, and they are able to kill one Israeli for every ten Lebanese killed. That's a lot better than one American for every hundred Iraqis, though, so evidently Hezbollah is pretty efficient, considering how much more weakly they are armed than Israel.

I note that the majority of Israeli casualties in this war, in any case, have been military personnel. The majority of non-Israeli casualties have been civilians.

That's not because Hezbollah is nicer than Israel, and it's not because Israel is nicer than Hezbollah. They are both terrorists. It's because of the military realities of the situation...meaning: the equipment that is available for Israel and Hezbollah to use.

Nothing more than that. Neither one of them secretly gives a shit if they kill the other side's civilians. If they say they do, they are just engaging in public relations.

Problem is, the rockets are mobile & ten seconds after they're launched, the Hezbollah folks are nowhere near the launch point, leaving only civilians to be killed by massive retaliation.

And the Israelis- unless they're complete idiots- know this.

And unless they're complete idiots, they also know that "strategic bombing" in these sorts of situations ALWAYS kills vastly more civilians than combatants- witness the "success" of this approach in Viet Nam and Cambodia.

Nobody's hands are clean in this current cluster-fu$k.

Greg, we don't know that the Israelis are bombing the launch points. If indeed Hezbollah is launching and running they would not run out into the open but most likely deeper into civilian areas.

Hezbollah's position at this time is erroneous, but in line with what one would expect:

They ain't gonna stop firing rockets until Israel calls a cease fire. So, I come and punch you in the nose and then demand that you not retaliate. Gotta love those guys.

So, LH, if the US starts lobbing rockets into Canada and Canada retaliates, both are terrorists?

Interesting.

I think all LH is saying is there are no 'good guys' left in terms of major players and powers regarding the Middle East.

I agree.

Hezbollah Leader Agrees to Cease-Fire
By Bruce Wallace and Tracy Wilkinson, Times Staff Writer
6:27 PM PDT, August 12, 2006

Beirut, Lebanon -- Hezbollah leader Sheik Hassan Nasrallah and the Lebanese Cabinet agreed Saturday to a U.N.-brokered cease-fire aimed at stopping more than a month of fighting between Israel and the militant group. Israel also signaled it would accept the truce, even as it tripled the number of its combat forces inside Lebanon.

"This resistance is a reaction and whenever the hostile Israeli acts will stop, we will stop our retaliatory acts," Nasrallah said in a televised address on Hezbollah's TV network. But he also warned that the shooting won't stop: "We in Lebanon should be vigilant and not think that the war is over."

After a Cabinet meeting described by some participants as "heated," the Lebanese government said it reluctantly agreed to the resolution's provisions, which include a reinforced United Nations military presence in the country's south.

Israel's Cabinet will meet to vote on the resolution Sunday. Israeli Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni predicted approval, saying, "The cease-fire is a U.N. decision, and Israel intends to agree to it."

It seems to me that all Israel has been trying to do for the last 58 years is survive. What are they supposed to do when a group that has sworn to destroy their country AND its people, attacks them with rockets and invades their country?

Invite them over for a chat with milk and cookies?

Israel gave the Gaza strip back and forceably removed their citizens and
the current government has said it would give back the West Bank with nothing asked in return, just like with Gaza. This is not about getting land back. This is about an unprovoked attack by an enemy that is bent on their destruction. Just what part of the Israeli counter-attack is confusing?

Greg. A question for you. What do you think the Israelis should do about the rocket attacks? Remember that, according to news reports, Hezbolla also has some fairly sophistocated missles as well as the Katushas.

"Israel gave the Gaza strip back and forceably removed their citizens "

1) and imposed a complete blockade on the area - starving it of resources, then kept racing back into kidnap democratically elected parliamentary representatives - are they still demolishing houses fo teh families of suicide bombers?

2) still has thousands of armed 'settlers' squatting on the West Bank Land 'that YWH gave them', having forcibly ejected the previous imhabitants - any attempt to remove thwm will result in a civil war, and most likely downfall of any Israelii govt who tries it.

"Well, at least the Israeli bad guys aren't attacking people all over the world."

So that's all right then - Israel is quite within it's rights to bomb innocent civilians under the guise of defending itself.

Hezbollah aren't attacking people all over the world either, and never have done (with the exception of attacks on Isreali and Jewish targets in Buenos Aires and London, neither of which were ever proved to be Hezbollah attacks and may well have been the work of other Arab militants). Hezbollah (formed after Israeli occupation of Lebanon in the early 1980s) have won the hearts and minds of many in Lebanon after starting many social development projects in the region which have benefitted the people who lived there - ordinary folk from across the religious spectrum.

Of course none of this excuses the fact that Hezbollah, like Israel, are engaged in the indiscrimiate slaughter of innocent people, but don't try to oversimplify the situation by suggesting they are al Quaeda or some sort of global terrorist force. That type of rubbish may be what the White House and Yo Blair would like everyone to think, but hopefully most people will have more intelligence than to fall for that weak propagandist tripe.
