For some reason I don't think Della would agree.

I was just wondering if Della's jersey was a football jersey or a soccer jersey or some other kind of sports jersey.

And why do they call them jerseys, anyway?

[I bet somebody has asked this question before. Or am I the only one who wonders about things like this?]

Knitted woollen Jersey, from the island of that name in the Channel Islands (Between England & France).

Okay! Now I get it.

Folks who lived in old Jersey which is an island in the Channel Islands (Between England & France) were good at knitting so they made these woolen garments. And then some folks from old Jersey migrated to New Jersey which is near New York. And those folks kept knitting these woolen garments. And eventually some of those folks who migrated from old Jersey to New Jersey showed some corporate folks the knitted woolen garments that they had knitted. And the corporate folks figured they could make a buck or two or three or more selling these woolen knitted garments that the folks from New Jersey had showed them. And the corporate folks were so pleased at finding a new way to get more bucks from the John and Jane Q. Public that they named these woolen knitted garments after that where these folks who knitted those garments lived which is the state called New Jersey which is named after that island inthe Channel Islands (Between England & France).

But sometime along the way for some reason, the knitted woolen garments called jerseys stopped being knitted woolen garments.

I guess that's what's called progress.

You can still buy jersey gloves. They're brown, made of cotton, and cheap.

Good job the knitwear from the other island did not become so popular - even if it is very hardwearing. People may now be saying she wore a brand new Guernsey.

Did anyone but folks around here in NW England ever wear something called a 'Gansey' btw. Probably a corruption of Guernsey but I remember my mum calling a sleevless pullover a Gansey. Wonder how that came about.

Back to the original song I think the worse bit is 'What did Missy sip?' Bad or what? Mind you, Stanley Accringtons Scottish football team song takes some beating. 'He loaded the machine gun to the top - I never saw a sten house more...'

Oh dear.

Forgive me, friends. I have sinned. And on Sunday too.

I just looked up the title for this thread using the search engine and there it was: Lyr Req: What Did Della Ware (tune & lyrics here) .

And-horrors of horrors!- there are multiple other listing of threads about this song including Song with all 50 states mentioned .

Well, that goes to shows me that there's nothing new under the sun.

So now that that I've got my answer to that Della's ware song, how about the "Who put the bomp in the bomp" song?

Oh, no!! I just checked with that darn Mudcat supersearch thingy and I find out that that question's been asked before too! And one time I asked it. Alright already. I give up.

Is there any question that hasn't been asked and answered on Mudcat??!

Well, I didn't know there was a Mudcat thread about dental dams.
But I happen to know what those aree because I worked at a women's health care agency.

Here's some info for those who don't know and want to be in the know:

Btw, this is what I like about the Mudcat BS section.

Who would have thought that a link for dental dams would be part of a discussion about the "What did Dela Ware" song?

On Mudcat and sometimes in real life on subject leads to another and then another and so on and so on...

like that Breck haircare commercial.

Oh my... my, my, my, my, oh my... have you any idea of what you have done? Just wait until Severn sees this... and Giok, and... oh my.

What Reesen did you have for doing this to us?

Oh woe is me! Are Severn and Giok and other folks gonna be mad at me for starting this thread?

It's just that that song popped into my head and I said to myself "I wonder what those Mudcatters think about good ole Della and her jersey?" And then I didn't think. I didn't use reesen- reesen?-I just went ahead and started a new thread about Della and what she wore.

Oh, I'm sooo sorry. I know I shoulda used that search engine to see if there had been any other threads about this song. But I acted without reas-I mean reesen. But I said I was sorry and I admitted the errors of my ways. I said I had sinned-and on Sunday too. I'm so very very sorry.

Oh, what should I do? Oh what in the womberly world should I do?

[I've liked that "womberly world" phrase every since I read it in that poem "The Llama Who Had No Pajamas" by somebody or the other and maybe I spelled wombderly wrong. I don't have a clue what "womberly" means-but I like the alliteration]

{Okay. Back to this apology thingy}

Please forgive the errors of my ways.

{Is that enough apology? Am I allowed to hold my head up high again?

Deluge. Hmmm. Maybe if I sung one of the Noah's arky songs that will make things better.

Oh the Lord said to Noah there's gonna be a floody floody
The Lord said to Noah there's gonna be a floody floody
Get those animals out of the muddy muddy
children of the Lord

Rise, shine and
give God the glory, glory
Rise, shine give God the glory glory
Rise and Shine and {clap}
give God the glory glory
Children of the Lord.

The animals----[What? What's that you say? Mudcat already has this song in the DigiTrad???- Oh, no! My goose is well & truly cooked]

Here's a basic way to cook your goose:

If goose is frozen, thaw according to directions
Heat oven to 400° F.
Remove neck and giblets from body cavity, cook them promptly or refrigerate until ready to use.
Remove excess fat from body cavity and neck skin. Reserve fat and render for use in other cooking. Rinse bird and drain.
Wings may be removed at second joint or covered with aluminum foil. If two end pieces of wings are removed, cook them with neck and giblets.
To stuff, fill neck and body cavity loosely. Fasten neck skin to back with a skewer. Tie legs together or tuck in band of skin at tail if present. If unstuffed, there is no need to truss, but sprinkle body cavity lightly with salt.
Place goose, breast side up, on rack in roasting pan. Insert meat thermometer deep inside thigh muscle (not touching the bone). Prick goose with fork around thighs, legs and breast.
Roast covered for 45 minutes to 1 hour (depending on size of bird) in preheated 400° F. oven. No need to baste.
During roasting, spoon or siphon off accumulated fat as needed.
After roasting for 45 minutes to 1 hour, reduce oven temperature to 325° F., cover pan and continue roasting.
Roast until thermometer in thigh registers 180° to 185° F. Stuffing temperature should also be checked and it should register 165° F. Allow about 20 to 30 minutes roasting time per pound. You may want to uncover the bird toward the end of the roasting time to make the breast skin brown and crispy.
If a thermometer is not used, press meaty part of leg between protected fingers. It should feel very soft. Also prick thigh with a fork. The juices running out of thigh should be beige in color, not pink. The skin should be golden brown and crisp. The fat layer between skin and meat should be gone, and the meat should almost be falling off the bones.

Approximate Roasting Timetables*
Purchased Weight/Time at 400°F/Time at 325°F/Total Roasting Time (Hours)
8 to 10 1 hour 2 to 3 3 to 4
10 to 12 1 hour 3 to 4 4 to 5
12 to 14 1 hour 4 to 5 5 to 6
over 14 1 hour 5 to 6 6 to 7
* Roasting time will be somewhat less for unstuffed geese.

If you want Alaska,

Tannywheeler,

Well I'm still here and nobody's gotten riled up with me yet. Unless they're dissin me by ignoring me-which is all good {I'm tellin you it's hard to talk hip-hop when you are pass 50 years old, but I'm tryin my best cause I like the rhythm of that some of that vernacular. But what I don't like about hip-hop languaging is the violent talk and when they talk dirty and when they use racial slurs and when they refer to women as that tool you use for working in the garden.

And if you ask me what this has to do with what Della wore, I'd say it's all about personal preference. Nowadays, when it comes to fashion, just about anything goes anywhere.

But it didn't amount to nothin. I'm still here and I haven't seen hide nor hair of them-or rather "him" or rather "it".
