Subject: RE: Obit: Molly Ivins From: katlaughing Date: 31 Jan 07 - 08:26 PM FUCK! She's the only one who really told it like it was! When I wrote my columns, I always had her in the back of my mind, I wanted to be like Molly when I grew up. I never came close, but she was one of my heros. Give 'em hell, Molly and thanks for all of your words and inspiration. There's a good obit HERE. |

Subject: RE: Obit: Molly Ivins From: GUEST,Texas Guest Date: 31 Jan 07 - 11:50 PM Barbara Jordan, Ann Richards, Lady Bird Johnson and dear Molly Ivins -four of the finest - each for their own reasons - to be grown from the heart of Texas. May there be four more women as courageous, heartfelt and gifted who will take up their torches and carry on the cause of the betterment of humanity. Lady Bird still lives; but Ann, Barbara and Molly will carry on through their words and deeds, and their influence on our hearts and minds. We're gonna miss ya' girl -rest in peace Molly - and thanks for all,...............mwh |

Subject: RE: Obit: Molly Ivins From: Stilly River Sage Date: 01 Feb 07 - 01:13 AM I agree with Texas Guest. She took time off when she was first treated for breast cancer, but she hadn't said any more about it after the initial treatment. She was based in Fort Worth for a while (syndication is an odd business, she wasn't living here but this was an anchor paper for her column). Here are some local comments about Molly. She will be sadly missed. SRS |

Subject: RE: Obit: Molly Ivins From: GUEST,Molly Ivans Date: 01 Feb 07 - 08:55 AM Believe me I would not have come back even if I had a chance to see Shrub set his hair on fire and was running down Constitution Avenue yelling the British are coming but this "incident" in Boston was just too much. These poor guys making minimum wage are facing 5 years in prison for perpetuating a hoax to inspire fear and panic! I swear if these guys get 5 years , how much prison time should shrub get, or Colin Powell or that potty mouthed liar Cheney get? The media has touted the Lite Brite toy as an electronic device. Its a light bulb folks. Maybe they would get lif3e it it were a Nintendo. My niece has a Lite Brite and the most dangerous thing about it is stepping on the small plastic plugs in bare feet. Only Boston could be this stupid. 10 years ago a child was shot to death by a Boston motorist. The motorist was found innocent since the kid had a super soaker. What did Boston's city council do? IT BANNED SQUIRT GUNS. Real guns were excempt unless they resembled a super soaker. The authorities are are calling the "Hoaxers" dangerous idiots. Before I go back I want the real idiots to look in the mirror and behold the real danger, just once. Molly Ivans. -Joe Offer- |
Subject: RE: Obit: Molly Ivins From: Wesley S Date: 01 Feb 07 - 09:09 AM One of my favorite stories that one of her former editors related was that Molly would recieve many plaques and awards when she went out on speaking engagements. And if you went to dinner at her house you were likely to find one of those plaques being used as a trivet underneath a plate of tamales or chili. Because as Molly would say - "What else are you going to do with them"? Molly you'll be missed. |
Subject: RE: Obit: Molly Ivins From: Alba Date: 01 Feb 07 - 09:34 AM Fare thee well Molly Ivins. You showed me a refreshing insight into this Country's Politics that made me sit up and pay attention. Something most of the Politicians have, as yet failed to accomplish. I still laugh one of the quirkier remarks you made: " I have been attacked by Rush Limbaugh on the air, an experience somewhat akin to being gummed by a newt. It doesn't actually hurt, but it leaves you with slimy stuff on your ankle. " The serious matters you tackled however woke me up. " What you need is sustained outrage...there's far too much unthinking respect given to authority." Molly Ivins Rest well Ms Ivins, a Life well lived. Jude |

Subject: RE: Obit: Molly Ivins From: Amos Date: 01 Feb 07 - 11:26 AM One quote from Molly in the early years of Bush's presidential candidacy: If Bush does make it to the White House, he and Laura should have Ken Starr over for dinner. If Starr hadn't so abused the power of his office, Congress might have reauthorized the independent-counsel statute, leaving the door open for a court-appointed prosecutor to investigate a president's son who flipped his oil companies faster than a Texas S&L can daisy-chain a Dallas condo; as a corporate board insider, unloaded his company stock shortly before its price plummeted; and walked away from the whole mess with more money than Bill Clinton ever dreamed of making on a little real estate deal now known as Whitewater. |
Subject: RE: Obit: Molly Ivins (31 Jan 2007) From: Joe Offer Date: 01 Feb 07 - 01:11 PM If ever Columnist and President were a perfect match, they were George W. Bush and Molly Ivins. With a President like Bush, we sure needed a Columnist like Molly Ivins. And she was so darn funny, to boot. Rest in peace, Molly. His term is almost over. -Joe-
