Footsore and weary, Shane stumbles into the wretched little place called Massey that sits astride the TransCanada Highway, east of Blind River. Which is worse, Massey or Blind River? No one is really sure. Shane has had many misadventures in Massey over the years...minor scrapes with women, homeowners, and the law. He hopes that none of these will return to haunt him now. Dipping into his extremely meager supply of cash, he purchases a "soup deal" at Tim Horton's. Soup, a donut, and a coffee. He ponders his future glumly. So far the trip is not proceeding as well as he had hoped. It may take longer to reach Huntsville than he had bargained for. Rides seem to be few and far between.
