I can't understand the reasoning behind this thread. Why do you like butter & I like margarine? Why do you like red & I like blue? If you don't like singarounds don't go. But I find the contradictions on this forum fascinating. There is the view that 'folk' is the music that is passed aurally thru generations via singarounds whether family get-togethers or work places or the local pub. The 'names' who appear at concerts must have learned their craft at singarounds otherwise they are not folk by the above reasoning. So, on the one hand we have purists who insist on aural transmission who also insist that only 'professionals' are good enough. Most of the source recordings I have heard are very poor, partly due to the quality of equipment available & partly due to the 'untrained' performer. But the content is priceless! Same with singarounds!
