The gunman involved in a standoff with police in the French town of Toulouse has been named as Mohammed Merah. Merah, who is believed to be responsible for killing four people at a Jewish school this week, is holed up in a house in the Croix-Daurade district of the city. Merah had spoken to police through the door and had declared he was a "mujahideen" with links to al Qaeda who wanted to avenge the deaths of Palestinian children in Israel. The 24-year-old Frenchman of Algerian origin earlier threw a pistol from the window of the house in exchange for a "communication device". Enough said.
