There are no bylaws here in Saint John for property owners to clear the (city owned) sidewalks in front of their property. I'm amazed how many people will not make the effort to clean the snow off their front sidewalks, but they make damned sure their driveways are cleared. As the city takes up to 36 hours before they get around to plowing the sidewalks I take it upon myself to clear the sidewalk (remove snow and salt) on my block. Sure, it's not my property but after seeing the elderly and mothers pushing stollers on the street, with cars whizzing by I felt I had to do it. biLL
