Seeing Billy Bragg's version of the Internationale, I thought I would send you my own version, which is based loosely on the version from the IWW songbook, 34th edition. It sounds good when sung to the background of a street-samba drum band.

I have written new lyrics, to fit the current global uprising, since many of today's activists reject the idea of the nation-state and
national borders altogether, requiring a new worldview, which is not just international but global:
________________________________________________________________
The Global Uprising

Stand up! Fight back against starvation.
Stand up, poor people of the earth!
Cross every border, every nation:
a better world's in birth!
No more will corporations trap us.
We're gonna smash down every wall.
The earth is rising! New creation
transforms us, each and all.

CHORUS:
These are the birth pains of freedom.
Let us each take our place.
The global uprising
shall free the human race.
These are the birth pains of freedom.
Let us reclaim our space.
The global uprising
shall be the human race.

We don't need no condescending leaders
to rule us from their conference hall.
We've seen the earth in the balance, hows it teeters:
we've each got to push for all.
To make these fascists shake their booties,
to free the spirit from its shell,
we each must first decide our duties.
We must decide, and do them well!

CHORUS

The law oppresses us and tricks us.
The wage-slave system sucks our blood.
The corporations have their picks of us,
and we're still stuck eating crud!
Give me life and strength and hope and beauty.
Equality's got better laws:
"No rights," says she, "without their duties,
no claims on equals without cause!"

CHORUS

Look at those fat cats on their piss-pots,
media kingpins selling blood for oil.
What do they tell us on the TV?
Only how they steal our toil!
Every time we spend a dollar, they get rich.
Stand in their way, they'll bomb us too.
They call us crazy, but we don't want much:
just the world. It is our due!

CHORUS

The media says we should be enemies
But there's only one real war:
let the general strike extend to armies
when corporations fight the poor!
This is a class war everyone can join in;
the system crushes us all the same.
But the pawns have overturned the chessboard
and we'll destroy their bloody game.

CHORUS

We're people of this world united,
standing hand in hand. This is our call:
"Take back the land and air and water.
Protect it for the good of all!"
No more prisons, no walls to divide us.
We don't need a church to pray.
When we free our hearts from mental slavery,
the blessed sunslight then will stay!

CHORUS
